scopewideshut Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Just wow.... it's been a long time since i have been on a decent combat sim and this just blows me away! from the first 5 attempts at taking off and ending up doing donuts on the runway to finally taking off in a straight line gave me a great sense of accomplishment. There is obviously a lot to learn and i have been reading through a lot of these topics which are very helpful so i appreciate it. I can't wait to get to grips on this more each day and always open to other tips and tricks. If any other newbies are in my position would be great to know if there are any special servers out there for special pilots like myself checklist : - installed sweetfx & flight fx TICK - Get trackir 5 headset TICK - Save up for better flight stick TICK (currently using madcatz fly 5 - which is very stiff and not rigid enough, looking to get x52 flight pro, but open to other peoples thoughts) look forward to seeing some of you up in the sky
Stallion Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Okay, so since the first thing this self-proclaimed 'noob' does is download FlightFX/SweetFX...is this something I really should have downloaded by now? Also, welcome to the community. The online Battle of Stalingrad, brought to you by 1C and 777, is a very unforgiving place. Keep practicing and keep your head on a swivel, and pretty soon you'll be pulling in 2-3 planes per sortie
scopewideshut Posted September 1, 2014 Author Posted September 1, 2014 thanks beebaboo i only installed it cause of the new starters thread thats pinned. i have used flight fx before but forgot all about since coming back to flight sims. simply adapts the 'look' to you own personal preference. i ended up using fifi's version as this looks more realistic and good detail. so thanks to him as well for taking time to get it looking that good once i get the basics i will certainly be up in the sky with real players.
ST_ami7b5 Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Once you try SweetFX/FlightFX you'll never fly without it. I also use Fifi's preset. Downside is you have to turn anti-aliasing off ingame...
scopewideshut Posted September 1, 2014 Author Posted September 1, 2014 out of interest regarding the sweetfx.. should i be seeing an in game menu that just confirms i have it working correctly?
kendo Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 What is the current situation with SweetFX / FlightFX? Previously was not working at all unless in-game AA was disabled.
Trinkof Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 What is the current situation with SweetFX / FlightFX? Previously was not working at all unless in-game AA was disabled. it is still the case, but sweet fx is including an AA also
Bullets Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 thrustmaster t16000m is a very good "cheap" Stick!! 1
Zoring Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 SweetFX just adds contrast and a colour filter on your game. I don't like it personally.
pilotpierre Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 SweetFX just adds contrast and a colour filter on your game. I don't like it personally. Me neither. Its OK in RoF but I prefer BoS without it.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 From SweetFX 1.5 Readme: Effects included:* SMAA Anti-aliasing : Anti-aliases the image using the SMAA technique - see http://www.iryoku.com/smaa/* FXAA Anti-aliasing : Anti-aliases the image using the FXAA technique - currently only work under DirectX9. Use the d3d9.dll found in \SweetFX\dlls\FXAA DX9 dll\ for this.* Explosion : Scatters the pixels similarly to the Explosion filter in Irfanview* Cartoon : Creates an outline-effect that makes the image look more cartoonish.* Advanced CRT : Mimics the look of an old arcade CRT display.* LumaSharpen : Sharpens the image, making details easier to see* Bloom : Makes strong lights bleed their light into their surroundings* HDR : Mimics an HDR tonemapped look* Levels : Sets a new black and white point. A fast and easy way to increase contrast but it causes clipping. The Curves effect does this in a more subtle way without causing clipping.* Technicolor : Makes the image look like it was processed using a three-strip Technicolor process - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technicolor* Cineon DPX : Makes the image look like it was converted from film to Cineon DPX. Can be used to create a "sunny" look.* Monochrome : Removes colors from the image so it appears as if shot on black and white film.* Lift Gamma Gain : Adjust brightness and color of shadows, midtones and highlights (and typically does it better then the Tonemap effect)* Tonemap : Adjust gamma, exposure, saturation, bleach and defog. (may cause clipping)* Vibrance : Intelligently saturates (or desaturates if you use negative values) the pixels depending on their original saturation.* Curves : Contrast adjustments using S-curves - without causing clipping.* Sepia : Sepia tones the image - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sepia_tone#Sepia_toning* Vignette : Darkens the edges of the image to make it look more like it was shot with a camera lens. - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vignetting )* Dither : Applies dithering to simulate more colors than your monitor can display. This lessens banding artifacts - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dithering#Digital_photography_and_image_processing )* Border : Makes the screenedge black as a workaround for the bright edge that forcing some AA modes sometimes causes.* Splitscreen : Enables the before-and-after splitscreen comparison mode.* Custom : A template to allow other to more easily program their own shader. Just edit /SweetFX/Shaders/custom.h (some programming knowledge required)
Leaf Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Welcome to the game! Personally I fly without SweetFX because it doesn't offer enough (8x) anti aliasing.
