GOAT-ACEOFACES Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Here are the reasons why BoS has nothing to worry about wrt DCS trending towards a WWII flight sim []1st Net Code, Their is no way to sugar coat this, the netcode is horrible. Which is not to say other flight sims don't have any warping, only that warping is the exception to the rule in IL2, and smooth moving aircraft is the exception to the rule in DCS. Which was not a big deal when DCS was a purely beyond visual range (BVR) modern jet sim, but now that DCS is trending towards WWII simulation it is a big deal. Because close up gun kills require smooth net code. In light of the fact this problem has existed for over 10 years, since the original LockOn release, I think it is safe to assume that this problem will not be fixed anytime soon if ever. []2nd Maps, as far as I know, there is only one, the Crimea map, which has been the only choice now for over 10 years, since the original LockOn release. I know there has been talk of new maps, but there as also been talk of fixing the net code, thus I would not hold my breath waiting on a new map. []3rd Aircraft, the current and proposed mix of aircraft for the DCS WWII product is not representative of WWII itself. Clearly DCS is choosing to produce the planes based on cool factor over planes that actually saw the bulk of service during the war. Which mean server (mission makers) wont be able to re-create the bulk of WWII air battles, which means the bulk of servers will consist of fast action air start air quake types of servers, where the enemy base will be so close to yours that you can see them taking off from their base from your base, and that you will probably be getting shot at before you even get your wheels up. For example, the current choice of making the Bf109K-4. In 1994 the Germans produced ~12,800 Bf109s, of those only ~854 were K-4s, which is only 7% (6.7%) of the Bf109s build during 1944. Therefore the chances of an allied pilot encountering a K-4 was very low, read the K-4 was the exception to the rule as far as 109s go in 1944. So you have to wonder why DCS choose to make this version? Same argument applies to the Dora they recently release in beta. []4th Graphics, the good news there is a lot of talk of DCS working on a new graphics engine, but, as noted above, DCS talks about a lot of things that take way too long to come true. In summaryAs it stands now, DCS is basically a good survey flight simulator, basically Microsoft Flight Simulator, but with guns. Don't get me wrong, it can be a lot of fun! But if some of the things mentioned above don't change, DCS will never be a viable WWII dog fight simulator IMHO.
GOAT-ACEOFACES Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 A good analogy Arthur! Who needs history let alone historic flight simulators!
DB605 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Lots of BS in one post, wow. Why you want to start another BoS vs DCS war?
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 It is a slightly different mindset over there with a systems simulator and a different, if overlapping, crowd. It will be just fine m'thinks. 1
Finkeren Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I might agree on some of the points in the OP, but this thread is completely unnecessary bashing of a sim that offers something different from BoS. I have my criticisms of the DCS WWII project, and some of the choices they have made, but in the end, I can only welcome another WW2 flight sim, especially one as dedicated to accurate modeling.
LizLemon Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Take the OPs post and change every instance of DCS to BoS and every instance of BoS to War Thunder. How many of those points are still "true"?

Except your new avatar is not that nice like the old one I was used to. Sry my friend.
Emgy Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 DCS 2.0 will bring more improvements than just graphics, give them time to implement this.
