Total Noob's first impressions

I bought the Standard version today. I'm running Win7(64) with a GTX 550 graphics card and 4 gig Ram. Using a Logitech Extreme 3D joystick.

Install was easy, though I was a bit worried while it was checking the update cache after initial install, as that took a while and had no progress bar, so I thought it might have hung up. But after a few minutes, it started working right and that was that.

Started the game and had two pop-ups from my firewall, which I ok'd.

I logged in. The game hung up after that while I was on the Pilot Card. I exited and rebooted the game, and it worked fine after that.

Graphics are great, though it certainly had my card's fan running at 1440x900 fullscreen.

I did a quick mission. Started in the air. Had lots of cheats on as I was just testing stuff. Mangaged to stall my 109G while doing loops (or maybe I had blackout, not really sure, but I almost lawndarted).

I started the mission at 0530, and that was a mistake. It was very dark and I really couldn't see anything. Not really surprising, but it certainly made things more difficult.

The game recognized my joystick, so that was great. It did NOT recognize the joystick throttle and I had no idea what key it was. I just ran at 100% throttle the whole time. The hat and trigger worked fine.

Overall, a good first experience. I'm hardly a simmer, with my main experience being World of Warplanes and some WarThunder. This game feels like it's going to be a lot more fun. I'm really hoping for a good solo campaign, as while I like Multiplayer, I am not always in the mood for it. In any case, the 109G was easy to fly, even with me not knowing any keybindings. Once I get those down, I'm sure I will love this game.

TLDR: If you like WoWP or WarThunder, don't be afraid of this game. It is certainly viable for regular gamers, but with the option to go full crazy on being a real pilot, if that is what you want. I have not flown against other pilots yet, but I am going to try to learn the actual controls first before attempting that. I suspect it will be harder than the games I listed, but not insanely difficult, if you are on a Normal server.

Welcome !

I come from War Thunder too , and you will see : the first 30 hours will be painful.... And after that, a new world will opening, and going back to more "arcade game " is near to impossible :)

I wish you a lot of fun !

Won't let me edit. One issue I did have after the Update Cache when it first went to play, was that the language changed to Russian. I had to exit the game launcher and restart before it would let me select English as default (the language box was greyed out before I restarted).

It happens. You'll have to expect and roll with the punches regarding stuff like that during this development stage. There are currently a few quirks here and there you'll notice...nothing game breaking...but if you see something, check the forums for bug reports on it and add one if you don't see anything after a search.

Welcome..... Bring your friends. Real kills are much more rewarding. Real being oh so relative. Great post BTW. Good to see your experience coming from the mega hit ftp games. You'll find that the people that play true Sims and loiter in these forums can be pretty serious but eager to help

Welcome E_T,

You only have fifteen minutes to edit a forum post.

Fly your first few MP missions to stay alive and maintain your E. The dogfights and victories can wait a while.

Hello Easy. Is it easy Target from ROF (J99)? If so nice to meet you here in the skies above Stalingrad mate. If not still welcome:)

You can set up your controls in the options. Its pretty straight forward and selfexplaining.

Like others said before, the learning curve is compared to WT for example a little steep especially when it comes to flightphysics. But its REALLY worth it and once you got the hang of it WT is really just arcade junk compared.
