Open Paddock Type Airfields

Is there any likelihood of some paddock type open airfields (a la RoF) that were prominent in WWII being included at any stage?

The DN engine can definately handle it just fine (for obvious reasons) It's pretty easy to take off and land on even ground in BoS. Perhaps even a bit too easy considering the deep snow?

Anyway it's a good idea, but I wonder if it's appropriate for this map. The Stalingrad area was peppered with modern airfields during late 1941/early 42, so it might actually be correct for all those countless airfields to have paved runways?

I am fairly sure I've seen photos of Stukas taking off from a snowy field for sorties against Stalingrad during the siege???

In fact most of the airfields shouldn't be more than a flat stretch of land. For example Pitomnik began its "career" as an airfield as merely that - a relatively flat stretch of meadow in between melon fields. Later it got runway lights and even a flare path but initially it wasn't a sophisticated airfield at all. Most of the landing strips in BoS were precisely that - temporary bases to operate from.

Besides most airfields at that time did not have runways in the sense of a modern airfield. Wind was a much bigger factor in the 1930s and 40s, especially for lighter aircraft and only growing weights and technical sophistication required hard and solid surfaces. Still most airfields at that time (especially in the East) remaind wide "meadows" which allowed take-off and landing operations to be shifted according to the direction the wind was blowing from.

The BOS mapstructure is very similar to the ROF ones. When a Mods On mode is available its pretty easy to paint a airfield texture and place it on the Map with the MissionEditor.

Edit: Just checked the BOS files, it looks there are already some fitting textures. So with the ME it could be possible already. (Maybe something for the Syndicate Server ;))

On the other hand experience from the winter of 1941/42 showed that only relatively narrow "lanes" (or runways and taxiways) could be kept free of snow with the manpower and technical devices present. As such the runway scheme is certainly more sensible for a snowed-in winter map such as ours.
