GrieverGriever_XIV Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 I didnt think much of DCS until recently. Ive been playing BoS for a few months now, and now with the unlock system, unlocking everything and having it being wiped upon release, I find myself not playing much anymore. I decided to get the mustang and the dora in DCS, and holy moly was I blown away. I still love BoS and am anxious for its release, but the planes feel soooooo different and so good in DCS, the cockpits look much better too (much higher resolution textures). I fell in love with the dora, and thats all I fly now. I will be returning to DCS once the game releases, but I think DCS flight model is better atm, I cant wait for EDGE, itll be pretty awesome. The only thing turning me off from DCS atm is the horrible landscape. 2
indiaciki Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 I like the scenary. Having real airports is great.
VRPilot Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 I just got Flaming Cliffs. Big fun, took me only 1h to learn the F-15 and both, the MIG 29 and SU-27 all together ( I was flying Falcon 4.0 a lot "in the old days") BUT visual combat (dog fight) is next to impossible without Heat seaker missiles and vertical scan radar because the LOD of enemy aircraft is bad. It is even easier to spot and track targets in War Thunder than in DCS. The game is clearly made vor BVR missile combat and not for WWII dogfights.
LLv34_Flanker Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 S! LOD issues are the bane of all sims for some reason, not only DCS. I enjoy flying the Dora and now as I got more modules, time to learn the Sabre and all
johncage Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 dcs is terrible. no communication, no optimization, and extremely ban happy when it comes to criticism. 1
indiaciki Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 (edited) I bought the Mig21bis... my first jet. I think of DSC more like a real FSX/x-plane type of simulator. I don't expect it to be a game. So far it's a great experience. As soon as I learn to handle the P 51 I'm going to fly the Mig. I already have 400 (198p DCS - 238p RL) pages of manuals for the 21 Edited October 19, 2014 by indiaciki
352ndFG_Ty_ Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 A few hours left on the October weekend flash sale. 15.00 for the Dora or 9.00 for the Pony you can try it. Hard to go wrong. Other stuff coming along by the end of the year and beyond. Ty
indiaciki Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 Didn't know that. I bought the P51 for 9$. I'l buy the dora now. Is the Bf109K flyable now if you buy her on pre-sale?
352ndFG_Ty_ Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 (edited) My understanding is the 109K is not ready for flight quite yet, but once it hits Some Alpha or Beta stage as a pre-order, you will be to able to fly it prior to everyone else being able to purchase it. Someone correct me if I am misinformed. Ty Edited October 19, 2014 by 352ndFG_Ty_
indiaciki Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Anybody flying choppers in DCS? I'm going to get the huey or the Mi 8. Haven't flown helicopters yet. Any advice?
Chuck_Owl Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Huey is a superb helicopter. Flight model is even better than the Dodosim 206 in FSX. The DCS Huey is the closest you'll ever get to flying a real helicopter, trust me.
Chuck_Owl Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Better? Both are equally good IMHO. It comes down to a matter of preference. I think the Huey feels like a nimble chopper that is very enjoyable to fly. Seeing your gunners tearing through enemy infantry is very immersive. That Vietnam vibe is definitely there and it's pretty versatile in the type of mission you can do, which makes it all the more interesting. When you fly the Mi-8, it's a different feeling. You feel like you're flying a very heavy ship and you tend to feel slightly less "vulnerable" (because the ship itself is just so big!). The MI-8 performs better at high mountain altitudes, so it's always nice to explore the mountain peaks of Georgia. It also gives you more of an Afghanistan war vibe, which is something new and interesting for me.
Reflected Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I bought the P-51 on sale now, and I was disappointed. It's like FSX with guns. No content, you can fly the Mustang in a post-soviet scenery. The graphics are outdated, still it didn't run well on my PC. Also FFB was messed up, after a few seconds it wants to move my stick to the left with full force. Very strange experience, and it got me hoping that BoS will succeed and we will se many more sequels to it done by the same team. 1

They are both releasing DX11 graphics update, and a WW2 map next year. They are releasing planes gradually in the meantime. I cant speak for the mustang, but I find the dora very very responsive. I also run on maxed everything and dont have any framerate issues. Im running a 680gtx with i7, and BoS without a doubt runs less smooth, especially online. Although I am incredibly hyped for BoS, I think DCS is doing a great job, and a better job at the simulation aspect of the Dora, and probably the 109 that will be released soon.
Emgy Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) More importantly than dx11, they're releasing DCS 2.0 this year with a new render engine. If you've seen screenshots of shiny reflective F-86F or Burj Khalifa, this is the new engine. DX11 in itself is not so important, Crysis 2 in dx9 mode has more eyecandy than any flightsim. LLv34_Flanker Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 S! DCS is good. Waiting for the new grpahics engine. Not saying the current one is bad either, runs at good FPS, but always room for improvement

Reflected, I'm not sure many of the WW2 guys are all crazy about flying the 51/Dora in a post-soviet scenery either. Give a try once we get DCS 2.0 and the ww2 Normandy map sometime after the first of the year. Like the sale that just ended this past weekend I bought the 51 to try it out a couple of months ago. They have a Spit iX, 109K4, P40F all happening toward the end of the year. Ty 1
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Even than they have to manage to establish a real WW2 MP title. In the end this is where probably the most fun of DCS WW2 may come from. Even jet combat MP is nearly wiped on servers and there's little to no hope to encounter people on the 2 WW2 dogfight servers. The Mustang is great to fly though so is the Dora. Only thing I miss is a little "live" in the weather physics, means turbulences and small pressure variations. Hope this to be worked on some day so flying feels a little mroe fresh and challenging.

Hi, just take the time to set everything : controls first in full real sim ( control surface, rpm, throttle, trim, gear, in a first time ) . but also fps and graphics too. here a quick tip to get max fps. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=94178&page=7 post 67. feeling of the real thing is just the most unbelievable sim experience in DCS when everything is well set. 1
jollyjack Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 (edited) Tried the 2.7 free version, especially for the p51 ... so far i like the IL2 p51 much better with all the options in plane settings etc. And then the price tag if you want some more DCS planes etc; IL2 IMO seems by far a better deal. Computer games get boring for me in a while, but not IL2, also thanks the input of their great dev team and their dedication towards making it better and better. I'll buy pre release stuff gladly out of support ... and i do have a wish list hoping for more collector vehicles, and even infantry and ships. Somewhere over the rainbow?
