1. Parsing the log files to find exact locations of enemy aircraft.

That's a pretty naive point of view. Any third party add on that gives a player an advantage over a guy who doesn't use the add on is a cheat in my book. Whats the difference between using SweetFX to enhance ones ability to spot other aircraft and a third party add on that makes it possible to see through clouds? There is no difference.  Its like saying "my cheat isn't a cheat because your cheat gives you more advantage than mine does" You can justify it anyway you want but at the end of the day you're modifying the core game to your advantage. That's cheating

SweetFX (and FlightFX) was introduced to RoF by Jason, and then carried over to BOS, so I guess you should take it up with him if you consider it a cheat.

Stand by this.

I don't believe actual hacks exist.

If you have proof of a hack you should provide evidence of such.

Wow!!! so the guy memorized his exact position with a few dozen meters accuracy, along with spawning orientation and altitude, and leads his pursuer toward this very place with the correct orientation, and then disconnect at the very second allowing to spawn behind him, taking in account the exact delay between the deconnecion and spawn....

My hat of to the one succeeding this, it's a kind of high class artistic "cheat"...

... or is it just an urban legend?

Only needs the rough area, the quits flight, watches map screen for you to turn around and start to move away. click airstart and get behind you

That pic Sokol1 posted was the cheat that was used in VEF etc.

Cheating is for losers. If you are tempted to cheat in a video game , then you really need to evaluate your approach to life.

However, I would like to see the ability to display G and alpha in an offline only, single ship, practice mode scenario. Sort of a test pilot mode to help pilots learn the characteristics and performance of their aircraft. Online or single mission player, no way.

Yes, and we were all aware of it after the VEF incident.   Between 2005 and 2007, TUSA fought many competitions against international teams.   One of the procedures we used to combat this cheat was to never turn on items (particularly in our bomber groups), that caused logging.   If you didn't turn on Nav lights, smokes, etc...   you were "dark" to that exploit.

It's important to tell the whole story of this.

I always thought of it similar to communications intercepts - required discipline on the part of your team to not give away positions.

This is a good example of an exploit that was handled properly.  It was reported on the forums, we were all aware of it and developed easy counters to it.   If I remember correctly, it was fixed in a later patch - but I might be wrong.

This is a good example of how to handle an exploit.   Report it on the forums, make everyone aware of it - including developers and presto - it's over.

I do not worry about cheats in this sim or in RoF.   The user base is quite frankly so small that it's really not worth the effort of people possessing these types of skills.  There is no money to be made and the user base is tiny.

If you've ever run an RoF server (I have) and have an understanding of the netcode in it - you'll appreciate the difficulty of hacking this.

Let's not go overboard on this without substantial proof, with respect to this particular product.   I see many people on these forums that are just starting combat flight sims of the nature.

It'll be a shame to see them quit during the first few weeks because they perceived cheating was rampant.

Well said. Can't agree more...

No need to start a panic, agreed. But should not lullaby too deeply that there ain't any cheats either. Even it is hard those guys will find a way.

There has never been a cheat in ROF or BOS that we are aware of. If there was we would take steps to stop it.

And I agree, cheating is for losers.

Time to close this one. No need to discuss something that is not happening.
