=69.GIAP=STENKA69GIAP Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 For those of you that are following the development of the online campaign manager for Stalingrad we move one step fowards tonight. While we wait for Stalingrad to be ready we are running the software with Rise Of Flight. We have set up a test campaign based on Cambrai 1917 in order to test what will happen with significant ammounts of moving ground units. The template was set up by LvA Biggles and I have just generated the test mission using BOSWAR. There are 50+ tanks charging across the frontline against heavy artillery defenses so we will see what that does to in-flight performance. As it's a test mission guests are free to join. Lineup at 21:00 CET, start engines at 21:30 password git. Those of you that are used to flying campaigns with and against 69.GIAP will know our teamspeak. If performance is strained there may be a restart with less tanks - remember it's a test mission. Now I know this is using Rise of Flight not Stalingrad but the mission structure is very similar, performance will not be identical but will give us a good idea of what can be achieved. That's the first piece of good news. Now from what I have seen in my e-mail inbox, we have received some help which means we can start converting the BOSWAR software to generate Battle of Stalingrad mission files tomorrow. Of course this does not mean user based missions before general release - it mearly means we can start converting our software - but it does mean that we should have multi-user campaigns running on day one of general release. 5

Some players reported occasional warping but that may be their connection. There were around 60 tanks moving plus other assorted vehicles. Monday's testing session blew out after a server hardware crash but I have got to the bottom of why we were not getting artillery kill tanks during testing. It seems that the artillery sulks and goes on strike if we do not not add attack areas. So I am now adding attack areas around all stationary vehicles again activated and then switched off by timers to reduce CPU load. Testing confirms all these base concepts apply to BOS although we are prime testing in ROF at this moment. Conversion of code from ROF to BOS is advancing. Tushka has set up base co-ordinate data for Lapino and Stalingrad maps, located some new features in the stats parsing to deal with. Myata is building new user interface graphics colour coded to BOS rather than ROF. I am adding the new features to the group files that are sent to the editor, then must transpose coalitions and countries from RoF to BoS. After which we have a big round of regression testing to see that we haven't broken the RoF version and then can finally start testing the interface between BOSWAR and Stalingrad. 6

I have used the old IL2 FMB for around 10 years and this ROF/BOS mission editor is factorial 2 more powerful. A mission file often contains thousands of manipulable objects not hundreds. However that means you need skillful mission building otherwise you can build an unflyable mission (exactly as happened often using 1946). Here I have been talking about the base technology we are using, but the key behind BOSWAR is that we automate the sequential mission building of a campaign so that you are manipulating groups of objects as simple counters on the map, dragging around a few waypoints then BOSWAR generates an optimised mission with all of the triggers timers and links set up for you. 3

I mean objects that can be placed by users lile airfield objects (barrels, camouflage nets, boxes, ladders, ....), tents, sand bags, fences, walls, harbour elements (if we get maps with the sea), stuff like that. Not things that already come with the map but that allow people to be creative on top of what comes with the map. Even if you don't have that power, What I can say is that, with experience ROF/BOS is more stable when you are pushing the limits. IL2 would have no hesitation about dumping 50 payers in disconect in seow missions.
