=69.GIAP=STENKA69GIAP Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 The inclusion of the quick mission builder in the testing this weekend hs given us the first look at a BOS .mission file. As we are currently building a multi user campaign manager for Stalingrad using Rise of Flight as the prototype this is a significant step. The first remark is not a surprise, there are new objects. We did not expect to find a T34 in rise of flight but it will be there in Stalingrad. We also find some WW1 objects in Stalingrad, the trains look a bit familiar and I expect to see ome of the houses etc. too. This means mission bulilding objects may appear only in BOS, only in ROF or in both. As we designed the database with separate tables for both ROF and BOS this should not be a problem, however we are now developing a parser to populate our BOS objects database from sample mission files. Now there are some changes to the data structure from Rise Of Flight but they seem to be additions. For example vehicles now have at least three extra parameters dealing with radio comms, navigation? and use in co-ops. This is not a big problem but I need to build in a conditional test to every session that writes towards the mission builder. Another noticable change is that airfields now have runways and taxi ways. This means adding to the airfields tables structure in the database. We are now trying to test is stats generation closely follows Rise of Flight structure. So we first have confirmation that the technical architecture of BOS follows closely on ROF but there is a fair bit of conversion work ahead particularily in updating graphics. Then we need the Mission editor before we can start testing. 13
[Wolf]ArcaneRebel Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 This is good news indeed! Thanks for putting forth the time and effort for this
SYN_Haashashin Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Impressive Stenka, Im very interested in both versions if you ever release it for public use, RoF and BoS ones. Thanks for your efforts.
Requiem Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Great stuff Stenka. Really looking forward to seeing this in action when you guys have it ready
Volkoff Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Great stuff Stenka. Really looking forward to seeing this in action when you guys have it ready +1 This is going to really add a lot of functionality to the ROF and BOS multiplayer experience. I am really looking forward to participating in one of the new BOSWAR campaigns. MJ
71st_AH_Hooves Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Yup, and it goes without saying. This paticular project serves to silence many critics.
=69.GIAP=STENKA69GIAP Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 if you ever release it for public use It will be available Open source for both Rise Of Flight and Battle of Stalingrad. In the first stage when the code is evolving rapidly we will have a central server that can handle multiple campaigns accessible to a small number of squads which we campaign with. Once stabilised the code will be released for anyone to install their own server and develop their own variants. 5
=69.GIAP=STENKA69GIAP Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 Is it an online war?! Yes, with collaborative ground and air planning for inter squad camlpaigns running over 10-20 missions once to twice a week per campaign; It's not a serve yourself dogfight stats generator it's more like warhammer meets IL2; Think SEOW for the basic design principles;, 1
FlyingNutcase Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Looks mighty interesting; looking forward to experiencing it!
102nd-YU-shtele Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Very nice, Stenka! Great news and thanks for the effort!
HR_coli Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Develop something is a great effort, thank you very much for the work. We are willing to try and enjoy it.
=69.GIAP=RADKO Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 The chaps have been working long and hard on this. Very excited for the community to get its hands on it. Great job!

I./ZG1_HeTzeR Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Awesome, for clarification, will the server itself decide what is going to spawn when and where or are there going to be human "comanders" who will plan attacks etc?
6./ZG26_Gielow Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Can you guys make something like AW (coop system) that have all kinds of mission, even recon and supply, mixed with ADW(moving dogfight) where you could login anytime to server and join action ??? That would be the perfect online war
=69.GIAP=TUSHKA Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 I can report that BoS text mission logs look very similar to RoF text mission logs, so adapting the parser we already have that reads RoF mission logs should be relatively simple. With the QMB and text logs we can make good progress even before the full mission builder for BoS is released.
=69.GIAP=STENKA69GIAP Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 Awesome, for clarification, will the server itself decide what is going to spawn when and where or are there going to be human "comanders" who will plan attacks etc? The key words here are human interaction, human commanders plan the ground and air movements and objectives. Humans fly the missions AI drive the ground stuff. Results are fed back to the server to determine resources availiable for the next round then human commanders plan the next round. 1

That would be the perfect online war Technicaly we could but I'll let someone else do that, our focus is on having opposing teams prepare a multi-player mission, 20-50 players turning up and flying their mission organised together, asessing the results then planning the next mission. This is the opposite of self service it's teamwork.
Panzerlang Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Hopefully there will be AI planes to shoot at too? The rookies as it were.
=69.GIAP=STENKA69GIAP Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 Hopefully there will be AI planes to shoot at too? The rookies as it were. In the first release version I'm not doing airborne AI planned by the server I'm concentrating on ground movement and human flights; That's not a problem of technology, we have mixed in air AI on past campaigns, it's merely where we are focussing the development effort; However, from day one there is nothing to stop the mission planners from adding AI flights via the mission editor, the stats analysis will pick them up in the results; Effectively the architecture that we have chosen is for the campaign server to generate ;Group files which are assembled in the missioin editor into the ;mission to be flown; This means the full power of the missioin editor can add to the campaign; 1
DickDong Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Will there be some type of death penalty option or someway to implement dead is dead. Storm of War prohibits spawning 15-30 min after death. This would be a great option for guys using this. 2
=69.GIAP=STENKA69GIAP Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 Will there be some type of death penalty option or someway to implement dead is dead. Storm of War prohibits spawning 15-30 min after death. This would be a great option for guys using this. Dead is dead is firstly down to the campaign designer of the rulset. After that it can be implemented in different ways. In rise of flight (and BOS will probably be similar) we can set a respawn time limit. Personaly I have been using a more flexible approach. All players are briefed that they get one flight as a pilot and we can check on that in the stats analysis and disallow infringements. However if one or more players get early disconnects or non fatal take off accidents they can take a new plane. This will cost their side two planes but they will get a flight. This avoids needing to restart the server making 20-30 pilots refly because of a problem with 3-4 pilots. In recent campaigns we also allow finished pilots to rejoin as gunners in the two seaters. It is important to remember that a campaign will heavily involve the ground war and action of the multi seat bombers is key and to be encouraged. It should not just be another dogfight furball with everyone in fighters. This way the bomber pilots get some help and if you take an early shower you can get in a gunner seat and the evening is not finished. 2
6./ZG26_Gielow Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Bombers pilots write history Looking good Stenka
