VA_NAVY Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I have the now discontinued Logitech G940. I was fortunate enough to have a 50% off coupon from Logitech it cost me $150.00 new. It is friggin awesome. I also have had a wide range of sticks. The Saitek Avi8Tr-01 that I gave to my son like new after 6 yrs. I hear the Thrustmaster hall sensor stick is good. I spoke to logitech on the phone and was told they have a new one in development it could have been BS but who knows. Maybe we should all call them and state interest in either a new line or bring the G940 back.
DD_Crash Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I spoke to logitech on the phone and was told they have a new one in development it could have been BS but who knows. Maybe we should all call them and state interest in either a new line or bring the G940 back. After making such a mess of the G940 I am VERY wary of Logitech. The refusal to acknowledge any problems (like the wires being too short in the throttle and the intentional "reversal bug" which they hoped would mask poor quality pots) shows that Logi dont want a good reputation. They could of had a winner with the 940 but instead they had a lot of customers telling squad mates and people on forums not to buy one. Shame really. I bought one when they launched after reading good reviews on SimHQ, as Saitek brought out the force sensing X65 after making positive noises about FFB. I think that perhaps I should have gone for a Warthog. As it is I use the throttle with a Bodnar board and a MS FFB sidewinder with a X52 handle grafted onto it, as the MS stick is really short of buttons and hat switches.
J2_Trupobaw Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 T 16000. I can recommend it as entry level stick with clear conscience. Wish I could recommend FFB2, today is month of waiting fro one I bought on Ebay. They sure are easier to get if you live in Americas.
Guest deleted@1562 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 TM Warthog and Saitek Combat Pedals. Waiting for a FFB P-51D joystick and throttle.
II./JG27_Rich Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Logitech extreme 3d pro for years. It's the most reliable thing in the world and I can't stand it. I like smooth sticks that are less stiff. When BOS comes out I'm going to get a CH Fighterstick and Throttle. I've got pedals already
Bearcat Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 I have just purchased X52 Pro - might have gone CH but I have small hands and I heard CH joysticks are HUGE. I hope it will feel good enough, I sold my old Logitech 3D Pro for few euros because it had lost it's precision a long time ago. I couldn't aim at all because it had large deadzone and strange behavior in all it's axis. Just curious.. why would you sell it if it "lost it's precision a long time ago" .. seems like that would be something you would give away rather than pawning it off on some unsuspecting boob for beer money... (I'm just sayin.... ) Had a 3D that ultimately suffered a severe accident. Replaced it on the spot with an Attack3. A while ago acquired a full X52Pro ( and gave away my Attack3 to a buddy who just caught interest in air combat ) and amassing money for the pedals setup. What definitely attracted me for the Saitek, although the quality versus price weighted a bit, was the customization. Wrist custom elevation, easy to access the inner works and a nice profiler. Eventually will upgrade in the future but for a scrub like me with a bit of money on the side why not. Note: There are some used throttle modules selling separate on ebay and similar ( a buddy of mine got one X52 regular throttle module for $10 on a pawn shop ). I'd suggest anyone with only the stick and no money to upgrade at least get one. Used to use Logitech joysticks, the old Force 3D wingman which got broken and then I got a Force 3D pro wich was all over the place (horrible dead zones and spring) so I got myself a used MSFFB2 and haven't looked back since. I guess I'll be getting some pedals and throttle when I get to play this game, but so far twist has worked pretty well in RoF. My first joystick was an Attack... What a terrible stick.. and when I got it I ad no idea about rudder control.. it had none.. Once I got my MSFFB though.. I originally got the X-45 because I just wanted to use the throttle and I was woeking part time at Best Buy so I got it for $30 ..at the time they were selling new for $80 .. I remember when I was looking for a stick when I got CFS1 (this was before I worked at BB) and I saw that X-45 and I said to myself "PFFTT! $80 for a joystick... !?!?? NO WAY!!" ... LOL I look back at what I have spent on hardware over the years and I laugh at that.. I spent more than that for my first set of CH pedals.. (I use Saiteks now..)
VeryOldMan Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Just ordered a Saitek X65..... probably arriving in a bout 1 week.
VA_NAVY Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 FYI I have had no issues with my Logitech G940. The wires are not too short and the pots work just fine.
PauloHirth Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I love Microsoft Force feedback 2, have a great force feedback and in 11 years of heavy duty use! 2 death and 2 working OK... I did restauration in boton contacts.
DD_Crash Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 (edited) If any G940 throttles start to play up these threads are worth bookmarking. http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2973351/1 and http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=23950 Edited August 24, 2013 by DD_Crash
piero_tasso Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 I still use my MSFFB2 and I'm really afraid it will abandon me... My only problem with it is the lack of a proper throttle. Why no joystick with force feedback any more? It is so immersive! I'm looking for an eventual replacement for the MSFFB2 and I'm quite lost. 1
nonebrucevonlodi Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 MSFFB2 is definitly immersive, although fire buttons occasionaly wear out/fail. Then you need to take it appart and solder in newer/better fire buttons.

VeryOldMan Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Well FFB is a dying technology outside driving wheels seems.
DD_Crash Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 One of the reasons I think, is due to MS suing another company who counter sued them about patents. Not like Microsoft at all the result was no replacement for the Sidewinder. If they brought out a Sidewinder FFB Hotas it would sell like hot cakes, but due to lawyers this wont happen
Mingan Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Just curious.. why would you sell it if it "lost it's precision a long time ago" .. seems like that would be something you would give away rather than pawning it off on some unsuspecting boob for beer money... (I'm just sayin.... ) It still worked, and was fine for arcade games. I sold it in a flea market for 2€. If someone really thought he would get a new joystick for two euros from a flea market, I'm amazed.
JGzbV_Manni Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 I had/have cyborg 3d ->2 * x52 -> x45 -> 3 * x52pro -> Warthog -> CH Fighterstick -> x65 -> "Rus 12 full betta" (pic below) -> 2 * msffb2 http://www.directroad.ru/?page_id=1036 All suck one way or another Best egonomics: x52/pro Best precision: Rus 12 full betta Worst precision: Warthog/x45 Worst ergonomics: CH Now waiting for 3 new sticks 1.Hotas.su 2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--SLSi39-cY 3. Sokol1 Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 So who owns the patent for ffb? How was logitech able to make one? Immersion Coorp. Seems that "vibration" in PS controllers cost Sony $97.2 million... M$ buy actions. Sokol1 1
DD_Crash Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 (edited) Just googled this http://www.psu.com/forums/showthread.php/154043-Microsoft-Immersion-Settle-Force-Feedback-Lawsuit I havnt a clue what was involved and didnt realise that it had been settled. However I think that as MS "won" they ought to consider getting back into joysticks. In other news MS has patented "headmounted display for multiplayer" OR better watch out! Edited August 29, 2013 by DD_Crash 1
gavagai Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Absolutely. My dream is for a ffb stick *and* pedals.
VeryOldMan Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Microsoft considered the controllers market to not be worth the cost of runnign it. Its unlikely that they will return to produce such products anywhere in forseable future.
Allons Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Hi all, G940 here up & running since a few years, Best Allons!
VeryOldMan Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 G940 here costs as much as a brand new compact car :/
322Sqn_Dusty Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Nice...as i've got the G940...what about those rudderpedals?
Bearcat Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Well FFB is a dying technology outside driving wheels seems. Not because it isn't viable.. If someone came up with a FFB HOTAS and pedals with the same beefiness of the MSFFB it would sell like gangbusters. When considering the pedals and HOTAS all it would need would be rumble.. maybe a little kickback on the rudder.. One of the reasons I think, is due to MS suing another company who counter sued them about patents. Not like Microsoft at all the result was no replacement for the Sidewinder. If they brought out a Sidewinder FFB Hotas it would sell like hot cakes, but due to lawyers this wont happen Yessiree.. I use the Saitek X65F....and I am surprised that nobody has mentioned it. How do you like it.. ? How does it work in WWI/II sms?
Bearcat Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I still use my MSFFB2 and I'm really afraid it will abandon me... My only problem with it is the lack of a proper throttle. Why no joystick with force feedback any more? It is so immersive! I'm looking for an eventual replacement for the MSFFB2 and I'm quite lost. Why not get a Saitek X-52 and mod it .. Mod the stick to use as a button bay and use the throttle.. or get a Saitek throttle quadrant or CH throttle quadrant or just a CH throttle. Lots of options.. I have a X65F ordered.. but its taking a long time to arrive. Here in brazil the final cost of the stick is around $800 .. I was so disappointed in that stick.. I launched a campaign at UBI some years ago and wrote emails and lobbied hard for them to come up with a FFB HOTAS .. and they came up with the X-65 instead.. Good luck with it. Make sure you let us know how you like it. Or not.
EAF19_Charlie Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I used a msffb2 for 10 years. Last year it broke so I decided to take the plunge and get the full CH setup (Fighterstick,Pro Throttle and Pro pedals). I really regret doing this. The precision is there but as Manni quite rightly pointed out the ergonomics are bad, especially on the stick.
Picchio Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 (edited) Started off on the first IL-2 Sturmovik with some old ugly and forgotten and forsaken but somehow faithful cheap joystick. Bought a F.L.Y. 5 approx. one year ago, while saving for my current CH Fighterstick, Pro Throttle and Pedals. I wouldn't change any of them for anything. Unless CH finally came up with a split-throttle, that is... Edited August 31, 2013 by Picchio
