Even though our office is near the Dostoevsky subway station, the gloomy and grumpy mood of the author is not affecting us at all - on the contrary, we’re entering a hard working and emotional spring-time as is the project itself. After 3 months from the start of early access you have 3 planes and one game mode. The time till release is going to be tremendously busy with new things. And we’ll give them to you in small, but tasty portions. We and the testers are already testing Stuka and the Yak-1, Quick Mission Builder and Multiplayer. MP works fine and is stable, however it lacks interface elements that would make the entire mode useless for ordinary players.

Thanks for the warm feedback about IL-2. Within a week a whole lot of new videos featuring this plane have been posted on the web, and our team is very pleased to see you enjoying this great aircraft. During the next session you will experience the same mission with the IL-2, but from other points of view like piloting a LaGG in covering missions and the Bf-109 in interception scenarios. So Sturmoviks will be going on missions under AI control, and you will have a chance to try it out in new tactical roles.

This week's main update is actually important for the whole project. We are releasing the game launcher - a special application that keeps your client up-to-date. It also does the following:

post-7693-0-34401000-1392985626.png

  • You can easily find the most frequently used links: website, forum, FAQ and get in touch with the customer service
  • Setup settings before launching the game, for example, choose screen resolution;
  • Read most recent updates from the team or visit project's social network pages.
Please, note the "Seed when downloaded" option. Could you kindly keep it active if your internet service allows it. We need to test this new update system and we'd appreciate your assistance as always.

Another important thing is that you need to uninstall your game client and then download this new installer. The link to the file traditionally can be found on your profile page.

We will inform you when the update is deployed, and when you'll be able to get the fresh installer.

Does that by any chance mean we get advanced settings back?

Thanks for the update.

Could you clarify - do we have to do a complete new install of the game?

If so, will it work if we port over the (updated last week) input/joystick setting files?

Posted (edited)

Thank you for the update, BlackSix. The news of what is ahead is very exciting. I am especially energized with news of the Yak-1.  I can't wait to learn to sim fly that lovely machine!  :salute:  MJ

Yay! We get to play the scenario missions from the other perspectives. Great little thing to keep us busy :joy:

Obviously the new laucher is an important thing, even if we will mostly experience it as a bit of an inconvenience just now. Good for you :good:

Great to hear, that the Yak-1 is so far along. Any chance we get to see a cockpit shot soon?

Presets are still there.

Yes, you need to wipe it off. Uninstall with the uninstaller and then setup a new version when it arrives. Starting a new life :)

Settings should actually stay, don't worry about them

Hmmm, yeah, why not. But I'll check if it's ready first.

Al right, let's make it two screenshots :) I checked - next week I'll get some pics for you.

Yeah. But download speed may be higher with the p2p protocol. BTW you may want to backup your input settings in order to keep the ones you're used to.

RoF's installation program is through torrent. I guess it's funny when using a technologically superior method to acquire software compared to a single point of failure because... ?

"I agree. The endless..."

Some of us do not like to have "work", either as a service, or as a product, or process, that we used to happily pay a premium for, be ported over to the end user / consumer.

Namely we who remember when a fast food chain didn't hand you the cup, and then point out the soda machine that YOU must now go work at, to recieve the product that you have just purchased, which is, a few feet beyond the point of purchase.

The New World Business Model. Make the Consumers become the Employees, and piggyback costs onto them, indirectly, means it's nearly unprovable.

Btw, Battle of Stalingrad is so far a nice bunch of kit, despite the truth of the above.

I'll be in line at the soda machine later today, but don't expect me to share a sip either! lol

Now excuse me, I need to go chase some pesky teenagers offa my lawn!

The idee after sharing sips is not only the share with others part, it also hastens your own servicing ;O)

Thanks Dev Team.  I've visited some other CFS in the works and they haven't provided any news for weeks.  You guys are as reliable as Big Ben!

Yikes.

Plus you can always turn p2p off.

To those of us who play RoF this installer looks very familiar... ;)

Posted (edited)

So, i take it i have to copy the folder named "Input"?

Nvm, asked and answered.

Btw. If i don't turn p2p off, does that mean i will be seeding while playing the game?

In fact you already should have done that the moment you were happy with the custom changes for last week. :)

Posted

Yeah, everyone should get into the habit of keeping backup copies of this folder.

Posted

Yes, you're welcome to download the new installer and setup the game.

NOTE: when the game is installed it can take up to a minute for the launcher to start. Please, do not hesitate, it's a normal situation. When the launcher starts and beging updating the client - you're all set up and can play as soon as it's updated.
