Since we most likely will not get transfer out of Eastern Front in near future, let's have a poll about what should the next Eastern Front battle covered be.

I tried to cover all the most important battles in this, but ofc something could be missing. All of these have their pros and cons, my personal opinion is that best would be something right before (Crimea 1942) or preferably something right after Battle of Stalingrad (3rd Kharkov or Kuban) as this would offer benefits considering plane set.

Moscow for me, if they chose to do the Moscow air defense correct.

Black sea theatres offer better map variety, which does matter to some people (we are shallow beings :-) .

Zak already stated it was going to be the Kuban...

Hmm. Haven't seen that. When was it?

Kuban is a logical choice and a great choice too, but when was this announced by Zak?

The Battle of Mig-3... erm... Moscow would be a great choice, so is Kuban. The Moscow and Kuban maps contain two of the planes that I most eagerly desire, the Mig-3 and the P-39. If people are sick of snow and want to head to Kuban, it is too bad the team can't release a Kuban map and release a Mig-3 as a one off add-on, the way they are with the I-16. The sooner we have a Mig-3 in game, the better.

+1 This is news to me, too. Kuban is a great choice. The only flaw in Kuban is that it has no Mig-3s, but I can't argue with the logic of a Kuban map, at all.

We were having a discussion on simhq forums months ago. I asked about lend lease planes as I'm not that into Russian stuff. He said we would probably see them next as the Kuban would be next if all went well with the release of BoS.

Ok, so I voted for the Battle of Moscow, under the assumption that the next map may be in fact, Kuban. I can see the wisdom in a Kuban map and I will certainly enjoy a Kuban map. My main reason for wanting the Moscow map is that I want the Mig-3. I really consider the LaGG-3 utterly addicting and highly interesting. Learning how to succeed in a LaGG-3 will be very challenging and interesting to me. Once I figure out how to get by in multiplayer with the LaGG-3 Series 29, once I get pretty good with the LaGG-3, the Mig-3 looks like the ultimate match for me. I like to stay way up high and make high speed ambush attacks and then climb back into the rafters, avoiding dogfights. The Mig-3 is very well suited to my gameplay style, but she is also incredibly challenging, all at once. I think that the Mig-3 may become my favorite longterm VVS ride.

Cool, thanks, Trooper!

Obviously I will be happy if Kuban is indeed the next battle. Still have to say that there were some very interesting air battles going on in Crimea late spring - early summer 1942, for me that would be also more or less the only thing before Battle of Stalingrad that I find truly interesting.

Crimea would be nice.  The Mig-3 participated in the 1942 air battles and I would be happy with any add-on featuring the Mig-3. A Crimea map could eventually be used for a late war planeset too, one day, covering the 1944 air battles.  :salute: MJ

I love early-war aircraft. Therefore Barbarossa!

Simply for mission diversity, scale of ground ops and sheer "KeWl"-factorness it would have to be Operation "Citadel" (Kursk).

What about the first half of Stalingrad?

True, for some reason I didn't think of that.

As stated I'm not that into Russia, but if it was going to be anything other than the Kuban, I'd rather it be Operation Barbarossa, as the main soviet aircraft I have any real interest in are the early polikarpov types... Staying alive in that early timeframe would be a major challenge...

Kuban for me. Offers another dimension on sea and is a chronological step, if settling in spring 43.

Maybe Stalingrad summer can follow up in a later 1st anniversary patch...or whatever marketing strategy.

I could imagine Stlaingrad in summer/autumn texture will follow someday, as it should be the easiest choice to create another episode.

But to gain money Stalingrad summer is probably to less, as noone would pay more than 10$ for a retextured scenario...I guess.

As 777 is a small team, each effort should be a good hit (financially & for customers), I doubt Stalingrad summer would be tbh.

i voted Kuban.

Nice scenerie ( in classic Il2 my favorite 'original' maps),

water (RoF channel map experience).

german singleseaters are already made with BoS (or only small modifications are needed...) so a concentration on german attackers/bombers would be possible,

L&L planes , eveb a Spitfire ;) , my favorites would be P-39 and A-20

Kursk eould be a boooooring map, scenerie wise AFAIK

I am somewhat surprised so far. Not because Kuban is the most popular scenario, but because Barbarossa is so close behind it. Also I was expecting Kursk to receive more votes than it has so far.

I am not too shocked. I suspect that there would be more votes for an early map, like Moscow, if it were not for the community fear of snow, snow, and more snow. Alternatively, I can certainly see the logic in Kuban. I will love to see planes like the P-39 in game, for sure. Still, an early map has appeal, too. Some players will love the Polikarpovs or love trying to shoot down the Polikarpovs. The early war maps also offer the VVS side the chance to learn the tactics of Pokryshkin on the plane that Pokryshkin used to learn his craft, the Mig-3. On an early map, VVS players will come to appreciate the virtues of a heavy, fast plane, capable of doing a reasonably good job of retaining energy in a zoom climb. Incidentally, I think that the LaGG-3's inability to retain energy in a zoom climb is the greatest of her vices and one of the reasons that I would decidedly prefer a Mig-3 over the LaGG-3, and maybe even over the YaK-1, even after 1942. Following the Pokryshkin formula of altitude, speed, maneuver, fire, I think that both sides of the fight will find that, early war or mid war, the plane sets can be very nearly matched and highly competitive, depending on the tactics that are employed, so long as the VVS side has at least one heavy, fast diving, efficient zoom climber, anyway.  :)

You are probably right about Moscow being a snow map scaring some people off. And maybe they are right... Snowy map doesn't bother me, but I guess it would be nice to get some other season next.

I am with you, snow would not bother me, but I can appreciate how snow is not for everyone.  :)  I hope that the community wants both the early war and the mid war maps in sufficient numbers to justify creating add-ons for both periods. I want a late version Mig-3 and a P-39, not a late version Mig-3 or a P-39, so with any luck, both periods will be commercially viable and represented in game.

If we could get a summer/autumn version of the Stalingrad map in 2014, the snow covered moscow scenario is allright for me.

But I would also prefer the Kuban due to the more interesting landscape and the opportunity to add some naval warfare.

Who knows. If they can extend their experience in developing naval units further, this may lead us to the Pacific or the Mare Nostrum some far away day.

Btw. The poll doesn't list the Murmansk air operations.

Hmmm, it seems that Kursk is gaining votes. Maybe people who are not so active in forums prefer battle that is more well known?

Trouble with Kursk is the landscape is so dull. The Kuban landscape is much more interesting with hills and the sea. I want to fly in valleys again!

Ofc the list is not complete, I included only 10 battles/operations/campaigns that included lot's of aerial activity and in my subjective opinion would be interesting to maybe larger audience. For that reason I did not include Winter war or soviet offensive in Karelian isthmus in summer -44.
