Reflected Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Is there any news about when the psd-s will be released? It would give skinners time to make some nice historical skins for the official release. Will there be a skin viewer app, like the one we have in RoF? I find it very useful. One could work on skins while the server is down. Please? 2
NeutroN Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Hi, I think someone from dev team should answer that. Somebody has already asked this in section intended for questions for dev team, but without any response. I agree with you, that will be great to work on skins while the servers will be down. Unfortunately I think this not happen so soon.
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Perhaps they are still adjusting the alpha-layer? The rest of the templates (at least for the LaGG and the 109) looks fairly much done to me.
snowsnipersnow_sniper Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Dev .... some news for skinners, please ..... ???
SR-F_Winger Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 (edited) +1. Would also love to start skinning. If theres more important tasks for the 2D artists - (i.e. FW190 Cockpit...) understandable. However a rough timeframe would be awesome. Edited July 21, 2014 by VSG1_Winger
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 As far as I know custom skining shall be availabel after release, we were also reminded that skinning will be as "complicated" as in RoF so oyu might give RoF skins a try first to get an impression. Also looking forward to comunity skinning and hoping for great historical skin packs to arrive in future, similar to RoF.
=38=Tatarenko Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 I'd be sure they will be out after release - the last thing they want is substandard skins appearing now in screenshots and reviews. If I were them I'd give it six weeks after release.
snowsnipersnow_sniper Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 Usermade contents and skins if available BEFORE release, should be better. making people working for alternativ skin now, cost nothing and should make the day of release and the sim itself much ever attractiv with alternativ choice and contents ? why they don't give us the skin tools now ? It's the same for Mission Builders. As dev, i think they maybe afraid to have to clean some bugs just after they give it, making all the work done by users obsolete because of a new needed code ?
SR-F_Winger Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) I also think its about time:) Zak? Can we have a word on this please? Id REALLY like to paint my 09er and 190ers Edited September 10, 2014 by VSG1_Winger
RaFiGer Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Yes some templates would be nice, I also will start again doing some Skins
Rjel Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 (edited) Someone mentioned sub standard skins earlier in the thread being a reason for the lack of templates so far. Maybe so, but some of the names I've seen on these forums were some of the better skinners in the original IL-2. As good as that sim was at release, it's skins were very sub standard compared to what came from the community. As good as some of the paint schemes have been so far in BoS, I think those too will look less so once the talent of the community gets it in gear. Edited September 14, 2014 by Rjel
SR-F_Winger Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 sub standard skins wont be an issue since if you dont like a skin just doint have it installed. problem solved. default will be loaded instead.
SR-F_Winger Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Buhuhuhuuuuu. Let me start my work please:)
Black034 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 You know, maybe a little competition would be a cool idea. Release the PSD's, DEVS get to vote on #1 community made skins to be included in the game. There's so many information and reference these days from the scale modeling community, it would be a mayor opertunity to add some extra "colour" to the game at release! I got like a hundred different swatches and about 1 gig of photo reference laying around, can't wait to start my magic (also hi im new)
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Good idea! User-made content is what gave old IL2 the staying power, making it possible to contribute will undoubtedly aid BoS too.
Black034 Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 That's my point exactly! Heck, for example people are still digging up and purchasing copies of Battlefield 2 just to play mods or tinker around with the game. If there is no 3rd party money-making involved it should be good right? I've logged a couple hours in this game now and I'm pretty dang pleased so far.. just need to get my drawing tablet dirty with this game. The shaders are so good it would be a shame not to see some pretty birds getting put out there by fans! Also, maybe Steam Workshop support for easy installation?
SOLIDKREATE Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 I just hope they do it the way RoF does. This way we wont see pink 109's with anime all over them. I have about 50 skins I want to do already. Especially if the release the Bf-110 which was in this theater as I recall, unless I am wrong? Don't forget skinners all my emblems are here for your use: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/866-emblem-restorations-skinning-projects/
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 (edited) Especially if the release the Bf-110 which was in this theater as I recall, unless I am wrong? Don't get me started.... Edited October 1, 2014 by [Jg26]5tuka
indiaciki Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 I'd like to fly my yugoslav 109 at least in free flight. To my knowlegde the air battle over Belgrade on april 6th 1941 was the only airbattle featuring a considerable number of allied 109E vs german ones. would be fun having a skin...
Sim Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Especially if the release the Bf-110 which was in this theater as I recall, unless I am wrong? Bf-110 did appear during the modeled Stalingrad battle period, but only for a brief moment (for around 2 weeks max). Just before Operation Winter Storm, ZG Wespe was deployed in an attempt to help with transport escort tasks. It then flew ground support role in the operation supporting Hoth's troops, and when Soviets launched Little Saturn - the unit was deployed up north (out of the BoS map area) to support Italian 8th Army. Also, some recon units did operate Bf 110.
Mainstay Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 IS the BF-110 gonna be part of the IL2 BoS sim? I hope so one of my favorite planes from that time.
Xabre Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I have many skins from previous versions of IL2 is it / will it be possible to down load those skins specifically 109, F4 ,G2 ,LA5 ? and if so How would I access the Skins file to add those BMP's X

So far, it is not possible to skin for BOS, but hopefully it will soon.

Don't forget skinners all my emblems are here for your use: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/866-emblem-restorations-skinning-projects/ Yeah. Nice. But you get official skinpacks containing Gothic-style A/C's and skins from squads you'll never meet, nor fly for or against. The RoF skin release system is way too rigid and certainly lacks a little freedom of creation. I'd rather have the old Manga-109 days back. But that's not the problem; in old Il-2, the skins were only 1mb in size and could be up and downloaded to and from the server you were flying on, or hosting in a matter of seconds (theoretically, on the factual side, well...). As for RoF, skin size is about 7mb, if memory serves right. Overkill for server traffic, when 32 players come together. So my guess is, we'll get a similar distribution system for BoS, like the one in RoF. Creating skins should be the same cakewalk as in RoF. Nice and simple.
SOLIDKREATE Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I hope so I made a couple of Sopwith's already from the 41st Aerosquadron.
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 The devs said they plan to release the templates, just like in ROF. I've seen those templates, and they are beautiful. I can't wait to try my hand on the BoS ones. 2

Reflected Posted October 22, 2014 Author Posted October 22, 2014 Working on a skin viewer for BOS now Yay! When will the templates be released? I can't wait to create custom skins.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Working on a skin viewer for BOS now Great news! Hope to see skin MP iplementation as well afterwards RoF skinning is easy. Then again I am a seasoned skinner. Well yes an no. They were strangely decoded in RoF with transparency filters and also tricky to convert to reasonable quality (with Gimp btw, don't have PS). Tried on a Gotha skin and either got errors because filesize was too big or degenerated quality due to low quality conversion methods. A pity since I was really eager to get into it. If it works anywhere close to WT though I'm gladly looking forward to it ( with proper skin temlpates ).
Pierre64 Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 (edited) Working on a skin viewer for BOS now Great news! Thanks My team and me are ready in our new dedicated office : Edited October 22, 2014 by Pierre64
