HagarTheHorrible Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Talk about being a twit. I always linked FOV with zoom. That's just the way it worked, the more FOV you dialled in the less zoom you got and conversely the less FOV the more you could identify, each worked hand in hand and that was it. Well talk about being a bit of a berk. Then I noticed people posting screen shots with what appeared to be a much wider FOV than I was getting, how an earth was that possible ? I pressed the numpad plus and minus keys but it just wouldn't go that far. What was I doing wrong. I tend to live by the motto (I fail on a regular basis) "If it ain't broke, don't touch it" so beyond assigning a hat on my joystick to "zoom" I hadn't looked any further at the various keys, anyway I use TrackIR so other keys weren't applicable to me anyway, or so I thought. Then in my wanderings around the control panel I came across "pilot head position", now I knew it could go up/down, left/right and I've done that in RoF but I never knew you could also move the pilots head position backwards and forwards too (HOME/INSERT by default). WOW, now I can have a good FOV and not fly around with my view zoomed out to max all the time. I now have a chance of actually spotting or following a target far more easily than before, what a revelation. All I can say is thank you for your patience as you slap your foreheads and go "Duh..............!" and have pity on this poor fool.
Curmudgeon Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Have you figured out a way to map the pilots view to your mouse? It would be nice if you could move the pilots view up/down right/ left and so on to moving your mouse around. I've gone through controls but can't figure out how to do it.

Should do it out of the box I think. Mine seemed to.
SKG51_Joker Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 (edited) D´oh! Same thing here! Looks like that solves my narrow FOV problem. Just a Question: when I map controls (e.g. coolie hat) to head movement forward/back I only manage to control head movement with TrackIR paused. That is independent of setting z-axis in TrackIR active or inactive. So it looks like TrackIR is taking command over head movement forward/back despite of z-axis configuration. Anybody any hints or tips? Edited December 15, 2013 by ZG15_Falke
Uriah Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 map it to two handy buttons on your joy stick. I like the pilot head zoom for looking at the dials but for full realism I don't think this is in the realm of realism.

Anybody any hints or tips? I have my "zoom" view attached to my coolie hat, forward to zoom in, back to zoom out (internal and external), left for cockpit view and right for external view. I then use the same coolie hat for external panning by using the pinky shift button on my G940. I think you're right when talking about pilot head position though. You have to disable TrackIR, to move your view to the desired point and then save with CTRL F10 (I think) before re-enabling TrackIR. At the moment my head position is a fair bit further back than the view I was getting with the zoom button all the way back, I then dial in some zoom to take me back to were I was before I started mucking around with the pilots head position.
dburne Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 (edited) I have zoomed assigned to my Hat2 on my Warthog stick, and just use it depending on the situation ( whilst using Track IR). If I am trying to get a better bead on the enemy I will zoom in some, if need better fov for situational awareness I will zoom out some. Edited December 15, 2013 by dburnette
