Yesterday I tried to install IL-2 on my new machine, however upon completing the initial installation of the Launcher I get the following error message:

"Failed to load backend library."

When running the Launcher.exe from commandline the log looks as follows:
Registering global exception handler
Window intialization
Initializing updater proxy class
Failed to load backend library

I tried reinstalling the Launcher multiple times with the same effect.

So far I downloaded and tried both the IL-2 BOS and BOM setup packages, which are as expected showing the same behavior.

I'm running Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 (Version 1607 - Build 14393.447).

Since I have never run into this issue on my old machine, could this be an issue with the latest Launcher.exe that has been released recently?

Unfortunately I did not keep any older version of the setup package to see if it would behave in the same way.

Exactly the same problem for me.

I'm not sure if it helps anybody, but I'm running Windows 10, my machine has DX and all the redistributables to the latest versions, never had BOS before and can't get it to run the launcher at all to even install the game.

Is it a case of a corrupted installer download?

I have the same issue and i sent a ticket to the customer support 3 days ago but i haven't received any answer yet

This might be a long shot, but if a user with a working installation could upload his Launcher.exe we might be able to fix this ourselves.

My suspicion is that the setup package contains a defective Launcher.exe and that the one that is getting distributed with the autoupdater is fine.

Same issue here. Reinstalled on new computer and getting "unable to locate libcurl64.dll" (installed file shows only libcurl.dll) and unable to load backend library. Sent a ticket and waiting with the rest for an answer.

Hi, I've got the same problem. I bought the game yesterday. I am sorry but I am happy that I am not alone who has the same problem. I already sent ticket to the game support yesterday, no response yet. I have lost several hours with trying fix the problem, I've cleaned several time windows registry, reinstalled C++ libraries, .NET libraries, nothing helped. Is seems that they updated the luancher and it is somehow corrupted when a lot of people have the same problem. I am quite sad because I wanted to play the game during weekend. Hope they'll fix it soon.

Do these files go in the main game folder or one of the sub-folders? For example, C:\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad or the C:\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin \\ C:\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data?

Thanks!

Well guys, I downloaded the libcurl64.dll what I found via google, placed it do "game" folder, and Luancher now works fine.

Awesome! That worked, thanks!

I installed to the following directory: "C:\Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game"

No problem guys. I also sent a ticket to them about the problem and root cause.

Adding the libcurl64.dll does not fix the "Failed to load backend library" issue for me.

Will try that now, Don Quijote!

Seems to have worked for me; the launcher is running and downloading the game. Looks like the devs have fixed the original corrupted file.

This was sorted quickly! Good work!

Followed these steps and now seems to work.

You need to perform a full reinstall of the game.
Before reinstalling, you need to make sure that:
- again, download the installer from your profile on our website
-all the game files deleted from your HDD
-implemented the recommendations that we have posted on our site websitehttp://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/5321-faq-about-launcher-and-updating/

They replyed me with the same answer. Good that they fixed it, but I already download client with our workaround. I don't want to uninstall and download it again, hope it will not be a problem in future.

@Hursty, is your game in "C\program files" folder? Move it elsewhere, anywhere on your disk(s)!

Hi all - was getting the same message after trying to update the game after a very long absence. Tried all the suggestions in the forums.  Finally updated my video drivers and all went well.  Just saying.
