Accessing IL2 BOS outside predifined days - petition

Hi all and mostly producers/program managers and marketing guys alike,

this is not the correct forum to post this item but I can't post a new thread in the early access forum, so I went to the closest one.

First of all let me tell you that besides being a founder and eager sim and real flight fan I've been a professional software developer for the last 15 years.

I work in a big company - not to boast what I do - but to tell you that I know something about how some decisions are taken at levels that us, humble engineers and users can't really understand sometimes.

So to the point now:

I really see no TECHNICAL reason why IL2 BOS should only be available to us during specific days of the week (well, if you didn't screw up something really bad when designing the login process).

Authentication to a remote server cost and its maintenance are negligible, if you don't want to collect our data on other days, fine, I get it, just flip a single bit in the code and tell your client to avoid sending any.

And why on earth of all the days you wanted to give us you took out Saturday and Sunday is beyond understanding from a customer perspective, that's when most of us have a couple of hours time "flying" outside work and family.

Sincerely, I love your pre-alpha but I'm so very disappointed by this decision, I have a friend visiting over today, to whom I wanted to show "this new great WWII flight sim I've founded" hoping to convince him to get it too, I don't think he will fall in love with the failed login screen.

Finally I hope I've got it all wrong and my post it total BS, so I look like an idiot but at least we can all fly every day, but all I can read in the forum right now is people trying to play from yesterday evening (read: Friday after you've eventually finished your working week) like I did and not able to soar in the virtual skies.

If others users agree, please post a brief reply stating you support this or, in case that you don't, no long replies please or the message gets diluted.

Thanks... better, spasibo!

Really happy with the way are going and don't see any reason to change it...let them do their work and let them do it how they wish as long as its done and from what I see I have no reason to want anything different at this stage.

Like Fritzi above, I'm happy to let the devs do it their way. Their software, their decision.

You could always show your friend some of the videos that have been made.:}

I might not have stumped up the cash for early access if I'd known I could only access it for three days during the week. I see no reason why the server should be closed, some of us don't have much spare time except at the weekend.

I see your point, and I'd like to be able to use it when I want, but the fact is the Devs don't feel they or the game are able to do that at this point, so that's okay with me.

I'm sure the developers are well aware that we'd all prefer to have unlimited access. I'm also sure that they took this into account when they made the decision they did.  I see no reason not to take them at their word when they say they are doing this for the benefit of the development process, and don't see much point in speculating about exactly how they reached the decision - we weren't there, and don't know all the factors involved. I don't expect it will be that long before the restrictions are eased, or removed entirely. I'm happy enough to wait.

I support whatever methodology the developer believes will optimize the advancement of the sim. Full time access will come in due course, so I see no reason to participate in a petition to force them to do something that isn't in their, or our interest.

In other words, let them do their jobs.

As the Japanese say, "Bing Bong!" (basically, you won!)

Not to be insensitive to those who can't participate, but it is a temporary arrangement. Were it otherwise sentiment would (clearly) be different.

I agree with the dev's decisions. They have their reasons, and I'm certain not babysitting the servers over the weekend is among them, but it is not set this way without some very good reasons I'm certain and since we aren't privvy to their reasons I trust that they have very good ones. It is also for a short period of time when the least of the game is completed, when it becomes more fleshed out we will have more access and it will be very entertaining then not to mention much more stable. GIven what they've produced this far, I would prefer them to continue doing their development process and releases as how they see fit so that we get a far more stable and wonerful end product than something that could potentially be a mess since they are overworked and would have to keep an eye on the servers over the weeknds leading to further stress. have been involved in several alpha test projects and when they rely on online services to operate, the access windows were invariably limited for a variety of reasons.

Let them do it the way they want and we'll get something terrific in the end because of how smooth this intial alpha was they clearly know what they are doing and we should allow them to continue doing it. Also, a poll won't do anything as this is their development cycle and decision so endure the next two months of varying amounts of limited access that will more likely see days added as well. We'll get unlimited access before you know it, and well before the game's official release. We can't have everything at once now, but soon enough we'll be getting it.

Same - let the devs do it in the way they think is best.

Chill out in the meantime and have some patience.

Count me as another who is fine with the dev's plan for early access.  They have their reasons and they have already told us this is the plan they feel will best result in a successful release.  It isn't ideal for me right now, but I'll work around that as best I can until access is more generally available.

But they do.

I agree with you on most you're saying, but there should be a reason nonetheless: do you think they are acting this way just to annoy us?

disagree on unlimited access. These guys are doing everything they can to ensure that each stage of hte game is functioning properly. by limiting the access, they are able to gain significant data from us about stability, flight model issues, and other key elements. then between each session if needed they are able to make adjustments to the code as needed. This is how you develop a hyper realistic game....text book

I am new here, learning all about this Sim.

Am I right in understanding this game is online only?

(Is the plan to only be online only, or just during development?)

To be clear, I am fine if an offline mode with just dumb targets is provided, but to have no offline mode (not even require an authentication server)  is a big issue for me.

I agree with OP, though.

And what 3x7 can do is give weekend assignments for us to stress test.

Actually, it is very good PR to send out updates regularaly.

Nothing verbose, just a short description, no details needed.

Not signing this petition.

I am fine with the way the Devs are going.

Regulary we wouldnt have access at all before the official Release day.

So give em the time to create a decent product with our support, what are 3 days vs maybe 5+ years with full of joy in a decent combat fight sim.

I would love to play this game everyday too. I believe the reasons we can't play everyday is simple. The code files are 'server side' and you need to be online to play. Yes that sucks but you can blame all of the people who try and hack. This is great benefit to us against cheaters. You don't want this to become what the Modern Warfare franchise became. They are probably working Friday - Monday to give us a great SIM. There's lot of data to collect.

Mmm... what do you mean by code files?

I am assuming he means the various files that are being worked and reworked to improve various aspects of the game. like AI, FM's DM's, and weather effects. things like that

As said "there is no technical reason to close server other days" and not even economic reason. So, i totally agree.

However the light is near...
