1CGS Han Posted February 19, 2016 1CGS Posted February 19, 2016 This thread has been created to find the cause of the 'invisible planes' multiplayer bug with the community help. Game version 1.107b and later is required for submitting log files. Please post only the data requested and avoid off-topic discussion. 1. Edit the file \data\startup.cfg find after the string [KEY = system] this string and change 0 to 1: MP_test_message = 1 2. In case when you encountered the message "INVISIBLE NET AIRPLANE DETECTED!" or spot an invisible plane, make a screenshot and record a short track 3. Leave server, after that exit the game or Alt-TAB from it, then open the folder: \data\ 4. Zip this file inside it: "!_SendMe_invisible.log" 5. Zip the track you just recorded along with its folder \data\tracks\ 6. Make a post in a special thread #2 and attach the screenshot, zipped log, zipped track and provide some details: When you encountered the problem; In what mission; Additional info you think is relevant. MP_test_message = 1 parameter simply adds the popup message about invisible plane detection, so even if you didn't add it to startup.cfg, log file will be updated if invisible plane is detected. So if you encountered an invisible plane, please do as described in list item 2 to 6 anyway.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 I turned on the MP_test_message in startup.cfg. I was in Friday Night Bomber Mission which started about 3 PM ET. I was in a LaGG3 orbiting the airfield at 1000m within 10 minutes of spawning. I have my game settings on Full screen. As a result, my game shrunk to desktop when I received a small windowed message saying something about the invisible log file. I clicked OK and went back into the game. Once the game came up it shrank again with the same message. It repeated this two or three times more until my plane crashed. I could not make a track due to the fact I could not get to the in game controls to do so. After my plane crashed I exited the game and made a copy of the log file, link below. I then turned off the log file and returned to game. I have no idea if this is pertinent but there were many players receiving CTDs during this period. VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) I was flying with a couple guys on Wings of Liberty on a Winter map. I was in a Yak while the other two were in LaGGs. We were at about 4000m which was enough to put us in contrails. As I flew by one of the guys, he commented that my gear was down and that my flaps were fully deployed. He also mentioned that it was odd that although I was higher than him I was not making contrails. The other guy, who was further away, said he saw my contrails. I don't think he saw my gear being down, but he either didn't see it or may have been too far away to see that detail. I told them that my gear and flaps were indeed up. I thought it was the graphic glitch bug which reflects bombs, etc. in the wrong place. I flew my plane close so he could take a screenshot, which he did. I then had a thought that maybe this is a remnant of the invisible plane bug. So I told them I was going to fire my guns and see if anything happens. Once I fired my guns he said my gear went up, the flaps retracted and the contrails started. Unfortunately we did not record a track. As I reflected on things, there was another occurrence where he told me my gear was down when I was sure it was up when we were flying IL-2s. Also, on multiple occasions we have noticed other players flying where the gear was down (maybe flaps too but it was too distant or quick to tell). I believe the word noob was used more than once referring to them. So, I am pretty much convinced that the new incarnation of the "invisible" plane is one where the plane appears to be flying around with its gear and flaps down and doesn't make contrails and all symptoms disappear when weapons are fired. Very similar to the indicators of the invisible plane bug. On a side note, I had on my mp_test_message indicator in the startup.cfg but received no message. Maybe a new indicator could track down this newer iteration. Edited March 8, 2016 by 12.OIAE_Stick-95
JimTM Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) When you encountered the problem 2016-03-06 4:31 pm EST In what mission On server EU 72AG-DED-Random-Expert-BetaVersion In randomly generated mission "MissionGen generic", date: 19.12.1942, time: 9:00:00 Additional info you think is relevant I noticed the invisible plane cloud of snow at the start of the runway when I was on final approach in a Bf109 F4 for Illarionovsky (sector 131-5, see map screenshot). I taxied to the end of the runway, turned left onto a taxiway, and took a screenshot looking back. Screenshots are wide due to triple screen. I missed getting a track, sorry. I had set mp_test_message = 1 in startup.cfg but did not notice any message and the "!_SendMe_invisible.log" is empty. Regards, JimTM Edited March 8, 2016 by JimTM

Maybe a new indicator could track down this newer iteration. Here is the print screen from my viewpoint. It's pretty much a static plane flying around "filling in" the place of the old invisible plane. When Stick fired his guns everything went back to normal. The gear went up, the flaps returned up, the canopy opened, contrails appeared, and the sound of the engine was heard again. I guess the image of a static plane flying around is better than an invisible plane.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) Thanks Snake. One thing I just noticed. I was using a custom skin, one which Snake has and sees all the time when I fly the Yak. This skins is not visible in his screenshot. Like he said it appears to be a "static" fill in plane with the default skin. Thanks for remembering the canopy. I had it open, he saw it closed. VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Last night on WOL winter Stalingrad map, I was flying with 2 other friendly aircraft at about 7km altitude. All of us were in solid contrails. I was looking out my left viewing the other two planes when tracers were being fired at one of them. At the same time the tracers started, a contrail began for the enemy aircraft which previously was not there. Although the plane was probably "visible" there was no contrail for the enemy plane at an altitude where all planes should have them. I believe this is an instance of a plane that was been forced to be visible but does not have all of the characteristics in flight of a normal aircraft, e.g., contrails. I was not close enough to see whether the gear and flaps were down on the plane which occurs in this situation, as previously reported in a post above.
VBF-12_Snake9 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Thanks stick. I guess I took one for the team. I hope they can fix this bug.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 I came across a 109 E-7 yesterday. He appeared to have his wheels and flaps down. After he fired, there were both up. Unfortunately, I did not get a video.
