look nice, thx for the screenshots :)

Are the yellow-brown textures realistic for the Moscow area in autumn? I would have expect more green from conifers and pastures.

Nice surprise as a great IL-2 year draws to a close

The new landscapes look great, and I absolutely adore the "open grass field" type of aerodrome. Really takes you back to RoF-days.

Happy new year to the team! You've done an amazing job. Seriously: At the start of the year, who would've thought we'd be where we are by now?

good job nice photos and good year a toutes l equipes et tous les joueurs il2

May be it's even too colourfull :)

Look here, 2nd part with real Yak-52, this video was captured in Moscow region in same season (very late autumn, right before winter)

Hello Han, What is meant when I read There are five big towns in the area (in addition to Moscow itself which will be visible, but not reachable): Vyazma, Rzhev, Kalinin, Klin and Serpukhov. Is there some sort of barrier that stops you getting to the city.

Yes you cannot fly over the city.

The part about the new technology I don't understand so much.

Quote: 'Its basic idea is to use standardized landscape textures, which allows to make as many cities and towns as needed...We can increase the number of cities for future maps if needed without any strict limits.'

Does it mean that there is less variety in different textures which makes it less demanding on the OS so free space is used in populating the map/adding more objects to it?

Perhaps I'm thinking in the wrong direction.  ;)   I don't get the relation between textures and unlimited amount of objects though.

And what are 'standardized landscape textures' actually?

Good work, The JU 88 is a very versatile bomber. And will give the upper hand to Germany when it comes to bombers. So I hope at one point we will see a SB 2 , preferable a DB 3 or IL 4 .

I love the PE 2 and I would love to see what you would have done with a DB 3

I have never been in Moscow but I agree the colours really looks strange. I know it's no good footage but it definetly looks different in this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IneYDkJSCxA

It's not so much the saturation of the colours, it's their hue. Everything seem to blend in as one big brown mass which looks a bit unnatural. Some yellow cornfields and green instead of brown trees certainly would add some more variety to the overall landscape.

The Yak video is unfortunately too blury due to closed in zoom level. Also the glass of the cockpit adds a slight tint to the outside colours as well making them look more dull.I know from flights here over Germany that colours even in autum are more diverse.

Fantastic DD as usual!!

Very excited to see new airfield types and especially new hangars and facilities in the airfields. This is a very welcome addition and it will give more variety for the SP missions.

Also, the Ju88 looks great so far.

Merry Xmas and happy new year!

Could you elaborate more on the unlimited towns and new tech for textures? sounds interesting.

I'm also a little baffled by the inability to fly over Moscow.  If it's there, why can't we go to it?  Yes I do understand my question is rhetorical as I already understand that there are limitations in place that would prevent us from doing just that.  But if I read between the lines (which we all do from time to time) does that mean there exists a possibility that sometime in the future this might be possible?

Or is this an inherent limitation of "maps"?  IE:  limited to a set of X squares by Y squares and then populated as the mappers abilities and historical data shows?  Don't suppose the ability to move from "map" to "map" might be a workaround?  Just throwing my uneducated thoughts around.... but developer comments about adding new towns in the future makes me excited about what that *might* look like.  S!

I think it´s very resource intensive and it will lead to lower than desired performance.

Most of Moscow's Western side (by today's city limits) can be flown over though so even if you can't buzz either Arbatskaya, if I recall the locations correctly you can at least recreate Air Fleet Day over Tushino.

Great update, loving the new airfields and cities, you really got Moscow down well. For those who haven't been there, unlike cute little red and yellow Peter' or Munich autumn the Moscow autumn for reasons unknown is a bleak horror by comparison. The trees have that very golden brown colour that's exactly pictured in the Vyazma photo, and the grass follows a similarly beige pattern. Winter is beautiful though, except on the MKAD and other main roads where car exhausts dye everything grey.

Map department have done excellent work with all maps to date and the BoM map is equally impressive  :salute:

Happy new year!

Not convinced by the trees. If it's late autumn, leaf trees shouldn't have leaves left. The winter trees would fit better. The coniferous trees should have their needles still on, they should be dark green. On the snapshots I couldn't even see coniferous trees. Weren't there any around Moscow during the war?

Those airfields look like art :)

It looks so good that I almost agreed with those misplaced people that thinks airfields should not be attacked.

Devs raised the bar again :)

Beautifull screenshots, from the first post. However, even on your video it is clear there are larger greenish areas on the ground. Everything brown (in autumn, ofcourse) isnt realistic IMHO.
