Do you mean the white particles? I always thought that it was snow, but it is still present in summer maps..

Gentlemen, I truly flight on both side and I'm not a 9 years old complaining kid. It's just something I noticed that seems not good.

 

@winger: What your talking about for the FW190 is a problem of conception, not a problem of clout shortage. 

 

@NachtJaeger110: No, the particles doesn't bother, it's probably just condensation. I talk about the greasy black thing near beams.

 

 

I just wonder how a canopy can be that dirty? And what pilot would like to fly with completly dirty windows? And even more in a combat zone! 

 

I understand the scratches and reflections, but the dirty black oil spilled here and there... Do the mecanics work like little pigs?

Russian canopy glass was known for its very low quality and fast deterioration.... Which is also often an explanation why a lot of red pilots flew opened canopy.

 

I believe this why the devi made this choice in BOS

 

And sometime it can be nice : with some angles with sun, the dirt on it serve as a sun filter :) .... And sometime you cannot see S***.

If you look through period canopy glass you'll be amazed just how bad it is in comparison to say a modern F-16 bubble canopy. It's amazing they saw anything out of it let alone other planes at distance.

This is a topic which died back in EA. the scratches and fingerprints are absolutely overdone but I don't think there is much interest in modifying it from a Dev point of view. I don't really notice it anymore as my brain has kind of filtered it out. Occasionally, however, I get surprised by a tracer only to panic, take evasive action, look around some more and realize it's just a glint of sun on a long canopy scratch.

What I really love all those 4px fingerprints on my canopy that blend me so nicely when sunlight hits it...

 

Serious though yes, it's supposed to look realistic but it's quite the opposite. Just look at the Fw 190's front window, looks like sby had a too good time with her.

I read somewhere that russian plexiglass was not of good quality and that they tried to reproduce it.

Can anyone beat this?

 

It's from a JU87 in Cliffs of Dover & it quite surprised me when I saw it as wasn't expecting anything like it.

I hate to say this but they are pretty good views and good all round vision .

never had any trouble shooting down yaks in my 109, as a matter of fact i feel invincible when flying a 109 its a goddamn rocket ship, yaks just cant compete with its speed, rate of climb and dive speed, u can even out dogfight more inexperienced yak pilots and now that yaks got there flaps nerfed its even easier to outfly them. i rarely fly on the axis side anymore, too op planes for my taste.

Didnt look that way yesterday , three axis pilots against one Yak and still fly rings around them . Even damaged .

Any way not interested . !!!

The way the glass is shown with impurities and finger prints is pretty realistic, if anything it's under-done as there would be a lot more crud down in the window corners inside and out. Try going up in a real crate and throw it around especially upside down and be amazed by the amount of crap that builds up inside a cockpit.

Arguably the best way to clear it out is to slide back the canopy and flip upside down for a few seconds, just make sure your straps are nice and tight... :)

please stop kidding around. this has nothing to do with pilot skills. Yesterday i was in the duel fighter against some very competent russian, we were both in 109s, it was like 70:30 in favour of him. Then i thought i give the Yak a go (he stayed in the 109), and guess what...since then it was 100:0 in favour for me. He didn't even hit me once...popping out those flaps, and you got a wonderplane. For the first time i realised it yesterday, how ridiculous this plane actually is. I find it hard to believe, how some people are actually trying to defend and downplay this issue. Has nothing to do with proper/realistic plane behavior..

and all this after i already excepted, that it has the performance of the late 1943 Yak-1b with some high alt wizard boost..

I think the plexi was better maintained than what's in game, personnally ... on the German side anyway (and I wouldn't think the Russian pilots would be entirely blase about it, either) and there doesn't seem to be evidence of any shortage of plastic polish at German frontline units.  What I find particularly odd is the lack of distinction between the glass and the plastic.  Let's say the plastic is realistically marred/scratched;  how is it the adjacent glass looks absolutely identical in deteriation?  I would think that with all visibilty ill-will being equal the glass would look considerably better by comparison.

 

 

I've known some pilots that were absolutely rediculous about clean windows (polish this way NOT that way!).  It was almost as if their lives somehow depended on it.  lol.  (I'm a little more forgiving, but then I do my own polishing - no one else does it right ... )

I've never flown any aircraft with such dirty windscreens either. Micro scratches are likely, I saw them sometimes at certain light angles. Fingerprints..very unliekly. If anywhere only at areas that are supposed to get in contact (window air opening, lower sides where people hold the canopy, ect). At least not at the front or - worse - on top.

 

Ground crews in WW2 were moer than simple mechanics and thrilled to prepare the machines as the pilot wishes. I guess no real pilot sayed "Man, the windows are so drity, but who cares as long as I don't fly against the sun".

 

Additionally, windows were shot up pretty frequently in combat and needed replacement every now and than between the sorties. It's very unlikely I pilot would fly with a 5 year old battle worn windscreen that is beyond cleanable.

This is that old Barsuk video about the MiG-3. If you scroll to about 7:43, you will see an in-cockpit shot with the sun shining through the windshield. Surprisingly, it actually looks full of prints and all that. Now, of course there's the fact that this is a restoration, but I'd risk a guess that the windshield is new. From all photos and footage of this MiG-3, the aircraft looks in very good condition and is always well-polished and clean overall. Any takes on it?

 

 

EDIT: The footage in the beginning though shows the front of the windshield crystal-clear.

I absolutely do, don't worry :)

 

The problem is the aircraft with original parts are, well, old. 70 years dusting will mean the perspex will deteriorate thus be foggier than it was. Restorations, on the other hand, are by and large too new, and most of them have tons of new parts such as the windshield. That being said, if you consider a mechanic would have the windshield replaced more or less every two months (combat damage, wear, or because the regiment was refitted with new aircraft) while a restored aircraft rarely needs to do so, it is possible this time difference might offset the technology gap.

MiG-3 sure flies and handles well in that video and the nose over and dive was really good.

 

Takes off and lands like a charm.

 

Of course the pilot is a expert but even so it handles flawlessly.

 

Can't wait to see ingame comments about it.

The dirt on the canopy provides more realism and 3D (curved canopy glass) feeling. I think it is a plus otherwise it would be flat 2D feeling canopy glass.
