How do I operate a tank?

Recommended Posts

It seems the arrow keys on the keyboard do the basics. I even have a few mapped for plane functions but the game seems to ignore that which is fine.

But how do I move the turret and how do I fire the various weapons?

its just like operating a airplane turret

and you must hit E to start the tank engine

unless you have remapped engine start to another button.

I remap most of my keys so I need the 'Actions'. As I have just flown fighters never did anything with turret commands. I looked around and did not find any action for turning turret right or left.

Default uses the mouse to aim, and the left mouse button to fire.

1. "T-34-76 made by Stalingrad Tractor Factory, model of 1942" and "PzKpfw III Ausf. L" tanks are available to all owners of the game.
2. You can operate them using the following controls:
"E" - Start engine
"Cursor Keys" - Movement (the game automatically translates these simple direction commands to pushing pedals, switching friction clutches and changing gears).
"RAlt-C" - Close/open hatch (riding with open hatches is obviously more dangerous).
"LCtrl-C" - Switch to gunner and back to driver seat.
"RAlt-G" - Switch ammunition: Armour Piercing / High Explosive / Machine Gun.
"Ralt ;" "Ralt ." - Adjust gunsight verticaly (range)
"Ralt ," "Ralt /" - Adjust gunsight horizontaly vertical (only on T-34)
"Mouse Wheel" or "LShift - Mouse Wheel" - Zoom in or out
"T" - Set turret to stowed position / Take control over

Did you read the patch notes?

just remember, if you have remapped any of those keys for planes they will be remapped for tanks too.

From what I know  Uriah sometimes dont read even the answer for his various question in various forums.

What you need, the controls names.

Engage engines start procedure/Stop engine =

Canopy Open/Close =

Turret: take control/leave =

Fire turret guns =

Gunsight range adjustments =

Gunsight horizontal adjustments =

Gunsight reset =

Select ammunition =

Pilot head: zoom =

Vehicle acceleration/brake =

Vehicle turn =

Landing lights on/off =

Only mouse controlling gun I dont know what "camera" is, are various. Is same that use keys 4,6 2,8 or HAT movement - besides mouse, all control gun movement.

Tip: set you throttle for control tank movement/stop and rudder pedal axis for turn.

I still don't see what moves the turret right or left.

Mouse, hit T (1 or 2 x) or the key that you assign for Turret: take control/leave =

Uriah,

I control the tank turret with the mouse and settings are default.

Go to

camera control>rotate camera up/down = mouse Y also mapped to bow pilot head vertically in pilot head controls

Go to

camera control>rotate camera left/right = mouse X also mapped to turn pilot head horizontally in pilot head controls.

Please confirm this has worked. I fly with joystick so no idea if using the mouse to fly option makes a mess of things. I have no plans to touch it either

Hi. Is there a hull or turret machine gun, if so, is there a default button. I have most of the other commands workout. :salute:

The turret mg is handled as an ammo type and cycles in the order below as noted by HippyDruid

"RAlt-G" - Switch ammunition: Armour Piercing / High Explosive / Machine Gun.

Cheers for that  :salute:

Is multicrew yet supported? If it is, how do you join your friends tank? I hope they add tank commander in future with binoculars so you could spot and identify tanks more easily.

Posted (edited)

Yes, the second crew join using the "Became a gunner" in MP mission briefing.

BTW - As appear various non invited "clandestine" gunners in my tank, I use the

"Lock gunner position" (or something). After the spawn hit Esc and go in turret options to lock.

This should be locked be default, in case like your, just unlock.

Sometimes I accept the gunner and search a target for he, but most times is a "newbie triggerhappy", that dont hit a enemy tank at 500m.  :(

Jacko,

it has to be

---->bow pilot head vertically = mouse Y or CURSOR up/down for GUN up/down

---->turn pilot head horizontally = mouse X or CURSOR left/right for TURRET left/right

It has to be the pilot head control, nothing else will work.

Tried all Mouse XY key mapping settings to control Turret movements with joystick to no avail.  My guess is the system is controlling it through inprb/inpmc yaw/pitch which does not seem to be user mappable.

BTW, anyone know how to control the view from commander's turret position?  TrackIR works fine in the driver's position but not the commander's position.

Posted

MrStick, it is just as I wrote above. It is possible you have other controls set for X and Y coordinates. And i don't think TrackIR will work from the commander's position. They have a bit more work to do to have the same functions as in WT.

Posted

For control tanks is not need map nothing if controls are the default ones, tanks use already mapped controls for planes.

If one have unsolved problems, revert the controls for default and map all again.

For turning the turret and raising and lowering the gun...

Turn a Turret

Go to Pilot Head Control

(using a joy stick with twist action) remove when in plane.

Bow pilot head vertically (in PHC) = joy0_axis_Y

Turn pilot head horizontally (in PHC) = joy0_axis_X

with the mouse or cursors.

---->bow pilot head vertically = mouse Y or CURSOR up/down for GUN up/down

---->turn pilot head horizontally = mouse X or CURSOR left/right for TURRET left/right

T will toggle the turret and gun between frozen forward and up to your control.

To use TrackIR in gunners position, open the hatch, leave control of the turret with "T", now you can look around.,

I stumbled across the "T" to get to TrackIR control while in the commander's position.

No dice using the joystick for turret control in any of the suggested key mapping positions nor many others.  Not that it matters but it is an MS FFB2.

Thanks for the posts guys.

Joystick is not good for turret control, don't give you precision in aiming like mouse.

Is practical only for move turret be big angles, but this can be done with HAT or keys, without need configure axis between plane and tanks,

since for move tank gun you use a "camera control", when flying planes the joy will control aileron and camera if not reassigned.

It was absolutely lazy to sell this early access at such a price and not even allow for separate tank controls.  It's has virtually zero difference from the regular games tanks. I won't pre-order any more of their products.  Flame away, I won't read them.
