Fw-190 MG151/20 and Machineguns

So, in the last patch, the onboard cannons and machineguns are now tied together, with the MGFF tied to secondary fire.

 

Can anyone point me in the right information in regards to historical basis of this? If it's authentic, I guess I'll live with it, just haven't really found this in the literature before and I always assumed that how it used to work was how it was.

 

Bit annoying running out of cannon ammo because I'm not using the mgs to sight in my shots.

So you can't separate them anymore? Haven't checked yet.

It is historically correct and it definitely makes sense, when attacking bombers or Sturmoviks with escort, you don't want to throw all your ammunition of the MG FF/M against the escort fighters and then when attacking the big aircrafts with reargunners, have only two 20mm cannons left, that makes no sense.

For that reason the outer guns were fired seperately.

Ah, okay, that makes sense. I always figured it was Mgs only and then cannons as a secondary.

The MG 17 and MG151/20 in the wing roots are connected to the A-Button. On the B1 Button lie the wing mounted weapons .

Perhaps, but I suspect it had more to do with the reduced magazine capacity of the MGFFs and/or the the differing trajectories of the Orelikon and Mauser inspired weapons.

 

It would be interesting (and maybe even a little revealing) to know if the pairing (inboard/outboard) remained the same in the A-6.

All FW 190 from the A2 - A9 have the same pairing it is historically correct.

Cool, I knew something was different but hadn't done any testing. Vaguely realized it sounded different.
