6./ZG26_Loke Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 S! I seem to have some rather difficult issues with taxiing in the P-40 and the M.C. 202. The P-40 I spin around like Bambi on ice. Is there a way to lock the tail-wheel? The M. C. 202 is the complete opposite. Impossible to turn, any advise on how to turn left and right?

The M.C. 202 uses the same system as the Yak or a Spitfire, use the break and push the rudder in the direction you want to go. Don't forget to unlock your tailwheel for taxi and locking it again for takeoff 1
9./JG27golani79 Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 (edited) As far as I know the tail wheel in the P-40 is connected to the rudder for steering and not lockable. Edited October 29, 2015 by 9./JG27golani79
6./ZG26_Loke Posted October 29, 2015 Author Posted October 29, 2015 As far as I know the tail wheel in the P-40 is connected to the rudder for steering and not lockable. Hmm, so Bambi mode all the way is the only option :-(
Saurer Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 But the P 40 has toebreakes too, and pulling the Stick back to keep pressure on the Tail if you want to go straight helps too
9./JG27golani79 Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Just be gentle - you´ll get used to it and as Saurer mentioned you can additionally use your toe brakes. But don´t use them too extensively as it was possible to overheat the brakes (not sure though if this is modelled in BoS / BoM) 1
Reflected Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 taxi slow. Don't apply more than 1200-1500 RPM. (prop pitch -fully fine)
SvAF/F19_Klunk Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 As to turning the Macci (and others as well)... if you apply elevetor "down" (pushing your stick forward) and rev up, the wind from prop will lift your aft - thus decreasing weight over tailwheel making it easer to turn right and left. Just be sure to again be gentle with throttle and work together with breaks. Practice practice... 1
EAF19_Marsh Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I have issues with the 190 tail-wheel lock mechanism, it seems to be little haphazard as to when it unlocks...
Sokol1 Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 (edited) But the P 40 has toebreakes too And if one don't have Rudder Pedals with "Joe Brakes", e.g. use "twist" stick, can brake P-40 (and Bf 109, Fw 190) like do in Russian planes: press the button for "wheel brakes" and move the rudder for the side of wheel that want to brake more or only. EAF19_Marsh Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Very good vid on taxiing BoS 190 by Andyw248 Ta. For some reason, mine seems to flip to 'unlocked' even with stick back. I'll have another look.
Potenz Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Ta. For some reason, mine seems to flip to 'unlocked' even with stick back. I'll have another look. Check that your joy doesn't has any bad calibration or dead zones, or maybe gimbals are worn off and you have some stutter in you input
6./ZG26_Loke Posted October 29, 2015 Author Posted October 29, 2015 Hehe Klunk, well said "Practice practice..."
