fjacobsen Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Great new plane One question though.... Does the Auto Lean and Auto Rich settings actually work, and if - how are the ranges defined (in % as shown in the engine setting info's) ? Finn Jacobsen
Reflected Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Always use auto rich. Use auto lean to save fuel, under 30" and 2200 rpm.
fjacobsen Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 (edited) Yeah - I know how it should work and also how to use.... Question is if it´s actually implementet in Il-2 BOS/BOM. Right now I can move the mixture lever back and forth gradually, but does the auto mixture really set the mixture as appropriate, when the mixture lever is set at the Auto lean or Auto rich settings as shown on the labels on the mixture quadrant ? On most Soviet aircraft had to be set manually as You climb/descend, but with Auto settings on the P-40E, this should not be necessary. Finn Edited September 29, 2015 by fjacobsen

Yes, it is working like it is supposed to be. It's just not animated exactly according to reality, and the technochat has not been updated to show which mixture setting the engine is in. http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/18463-p-40e-1-cockpit-diagram-and-engine-operating-limits/?do=findComment&comment=289712 Edited September 29, 2015 by LukeFF
No.42_Rooster Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Great video jcomm, thanks for sharing. S!
SYN_Mike77 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 very interesting. "The most manuverable American fighter." Just not as nimble as a Zero. But much more so than a Mustang!
BraveSirRobin Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Geneseo is a great place to see an air show, but none of the aircraft he mentions are there any more.
Finkeren Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 very interesting. "The most manuverable American fighter." Just not as nimble as a Zero. But much more so than a Mustang! I can believe it. It is quite agile despite its high weight.
Bert_Foster Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Neat video ... does indicate that the BOM P40 is overcooled though ... even allowing for the Russian winter map. 1
SOLIDKREATE Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 We have an original Flying Tiger here where I live.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Yes that video defo suggests that BoM P40 cooling is incorrect
Dakpilot Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Nice vid jcomm, interesting about the cooling especially seeing as the most common enviroments for Western P-40's were the hottest, harshest theatres where they did not seem to have that reputation, far east and western desert.. must also be noted that this is talking about one individual A/C with an unknown history rather than all P-40's, I have yet to 'test' the BoM P-40 for overheating on the ground/low speeds I liked the comment where he says he has written a book on the P-40 and then after flying it realised all his 'perceived notions' he wrote about it were wrong Cheers Dakpilot 1
Bert_Foster Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 RAF Kittyhawk I (P40E) cooling trials ... all you or the devs need to know AVIA_734_Report_783__Part_121.zip
Uriah Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 We have an original Flying Tiger here where I live. Well get him over to your house and get him flying the game so he can give us some hints of flying the P-40 or take all your stuff to his place. Pronto, he may be gone tomorrow.
Finkeren Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Incidently, the I-16 is not that far removed from the Ki-43, so we might even be able to put some old Flying Tiger tips into practice against sort-of-similar aircraft.
keeno Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 jcomm, nice video, I've seen it before but it's nice to see again now that we have the P40 in BoS/BoS. cheers
Guest deleted@50488 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 (edited) jcomm, nice video, I've seen it before but it's nice to see again now that we have the P40 in BoS/BoS. cheers Thx :-) I really appreciated hearing and watching some of the details.
