Danziger Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 I've only made one successful landing so far. Hopefully soon I'll be able to do it on a runway as well...

[CPT]milopugdog Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 My friend landed a Ju-87 with one wing on expert, here are screenshots of it. Props to him
avlSteve Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 I got a little too ambitious on a strafing run and tore off half of my stuka's wing on a tree and flew 15 or 20 minutes back to base... it was all i could do to keep it flying at full speed, but no way was I going to be able to land it. Bailed out over the field instead. So yeah, big props.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 milopudog, well done. And just in case...
[CPT]milopugdog Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 milopudog, well done. And just in case... -snip- Well, I hate to say it. But I'm the reason why the wing is missing My buddy BomberBrent was piloting the danged thing.
andyw248 Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Landing the I-16: external first, then cockpit view. Full flaps, airspeed on short final about 180 kph (stall speed ~136 x 1.3). https://youtu.be/BptEL21G9ek 3
Y-29.Silky Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Those half-wing landings are so rewarding! My first one was in a Stuka as well, took me like 20 minutes to align the approach.
=38=Tatarenko Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 I've been flying the LaGG-3 a lot doing endless landings trying to beat the final pirouette and have tried all kinds of remedies to keep her straight. Best results for me seem to be letting her run with no brakes for a bit after landing then applying only 10-15% brakes (on a slider) with a really long run out then as she starts to bend off at the end go quickly to full 100% brakes and determined rudder. But only once she's really slow.
Dakpilot Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Discussions from 1941 on LaGG - 3 Military Engineer 1st Rank A N. Frolov, Chief of the Soviet Air Forces Scientific Research Institute Fighter Department "In his conclusions, Frolov wrote: "The enemy outperforms all types of our new fighters in the main flight performance categories to an altitude of 2000 meters... The takeoff and landing qualities of our machines are not satisfactory (the LaGG-3 is especially bad). The ground roll is long and the tendency to pull to the right makes takeoffs in formation difficult and takeoffs from limited field areas require special attention. The high landing speed and long rollout also require exceptional attention and sufficient experience for an accurate landing approach...." Cheers Dakpilot
unreasonable Posted September 7, 2015 Posted September 7, 2015 Reading that makes me feel a lot better and less of an idiot, thanks Dakpilot. I enjoyed flying the Lagg, had the take off down and had got quite good with bombing tanks, but I do not think I once managed to land without some ground loop at the end. Usually I aim to touch down just before the tower: habit picked up in 109s, gets you off the strip ASAP, but I suppose a better way to approach the Lagg landing is to touch down as early as possible to get the roll out without rushing.
andyw248 Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 What I want to promote with my videos is that it's really not that hard to land these planes... just keep your airspeeds low, and a pair of rudder pedals doesn't hurt either. For the LaGG / La start landing with half flaps, the angle of attack is just so much better than with full flaps. 1
unreasonable Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 If you are a complete novice and finding landing in BoS difficult why not practice a little in RoF first? There is less to worry about. 1
216th_Peterla Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 (edited) This was long ago...in the old early times, but I still remember that the plane was trimmed maximum nose down and the way to manage the landing was increasing/decreasing throttle. I guess it was my most memorable landing(due to my past and actual skills, that are not so great). Ehm...of course I got into that situation dropping bombs to close to the german locomotive and hitting the body of the train itself. I'm not so sure but I think that while taxiing to the parking lot, the tail boom fall off. Edited September 8, 2015 by peterla 1
