In the first few seconds of that video you can see into another dimension. (Don't tell Raaaid)

Heh. over in that dimension the devs are hearing complaints about the over powered uber x-wing thrusters.

Seriously crew; thank you!  I think tests are done. There were zero "overload" messages on yesterday's run.  Hope to get the server up tonight; but it may be down an additional day. Next uptime should be for real 24-7 style w/ a non-testing mission, loaded out w/ statics, human engage-able primary targets, and more realistic unit placements.

If anyone has suggestions for an upcoming mission to be made please feel free to let me know. I *really* want to do some historic missions but do not have the requisite deep knowledge of events.  So if the suggestion is historic, I would appreciate any links or details about the event.  This can certainly include things out of BoS common band. Landing behind enemy lines at night, air recon, critical target etc.

Next on my plate after first 24/7 mission goes up:

  1. well organized mission construction videos ( these will start being recording during the above build )
  2. video showing QMB style use of automata
  3. single player mission and short video describing the difference in single player mission construction w/ automata
  4. finally get around to learning how fly one of these crates :P

Maybe a bit left field, but how about a look at/chat with Veteranen about his  Chir front  SP campaign as a 'starting point for a MP historic campaign idea

http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/13912-veteranenmissions/

I am sure there are many other talented mission makers that would also be helpful with the historic content side of things

anyway looking forward to developments :) and thanks for all the hard work

So for suggestions on your next project, and I kind of mentioned this when I was flying the mission with you a few days ago....how about more of an A2A focus.

So as you explained, there's only so many units you can use and stay inside the performance parameters. So adding more planes for ai dogfights is going to cost some of the ground units.

I like the idea you have going where there's logistical factors and interdicting them has battlefield effects.

In yours similar pattern can you do one where each side has to supply forward airfields, rather than spawning truck convoys you could spawn ai ju52s that have to supply the airfield and make them usable. They could have ai escorts and players would just try to intercept and stop the supply aircraft from landing. You could also have some static targets like factories and bridges for ground pounding that has strategic effects, and maybe just some artillery to represent the ground forces.

So performance wise, could we have 8vs8 fighters, 2vs2 supply aircraft, 3vs3 CAS aircraft ? And the rest for the ground forces ? And player aircraft choices could improve or degrade as the supply aircraft land at the base successfully.

Hey Skoop --

To most of above definitely yes. A mission can be built w/ the automata system across the whole spectrum from only AI air units to only AI ground units. I will certainly end up building missions dramatically towards one side or the other.  You'll see in the QMB video coming out today that you can set-up air battles very quickly. Ground units take some time to set-up, especially ones on the road, air units take literally moments.

The above mission actually does have a condition that brings out ju52's that land just east of the Kalach bridge and resupply other units. ( same basic story w/ unarmed pe2's for the Russians ). For this mission  that condition is a few specific events on the ground supply units. The ju52 in this case actually bring in supplies for the ground based supply lines themselves. However, the conditions that trigger changes within the system are at the whim of the mission designer. The construction videos will clear that up. With some Category theory jargon I can explain it quickly. Please know that category theory stuff is not even remotely required for using or building w/ this system. That said, for those down with the category scene it can be explained in just a few words: An `operation` is defined as a continuation with each computation step being a monadic  function ( where the context is the game events ) and the continuation's control is implemented as a zipper over those monadic functions ( the groups of units ).

There is also already in the system the idea of primary targets that may be static units like factories. This mission did have them, but I kinda hid them from the player b/c I was testing the AI's interaction with them -- there were some fuel tanks on each side that represented a primary static ground target. Also bridges are extra cool because they can be entitied ( the AI knows about em ) units like the fuel tanks were in this mission, or just a regular unit. If you were to destroy the bridge over to Kalach in this mission then the German's would not be able to complete half their supply lines and Russians would gain a significant advantage -- even though the bridge there is just a regular static.

The aircraft numbers you suggest up there ( 26 total, 16 of which are single seat ) would require no ground units other than some AAA to work on the server I am using w/o "Multiplayer server overload". It should be noted that the server i am running automata on is not in an ideal configuration for maximizing BoS performance. More beef ( specifically faster CPU ) would likely increase that capability.  So the numbers I'm getting would likely vary with better or worse machines. I'm with you, I love having all the AI aircraft -- some folks have really pushed for lots more ground and no air AI too though -- so I'm just gonna do both :)

@Dakpilot  That is an excellent suggestion. I've not yet had time to play Veteranen's missions -- I've barely even played the sim: all ME all the time :) From what I've read they are very very good. So yeah; I'll play through a few of them, load em up in the ME, and reach out Veteranen. btw Veteranen feel free to totally ignore me when I do reach out; don't wanna rope you into anything unwillingly.

Again thanks to all -- I'll have the QMB style use video up in a few minutes or so; but it'll be in the Mission Making section of the forums.
