I got Win7 and wonder if i should update to win10.

Its for free so i wonder if annyone here has done it, and how does it works for you with the game?  :scratch_one-s_head:

I installed Win10 a while ago and it works fine with BoS. Haven't noticed any difference with any game so far.

That being said latest Nvidia drivers for Win10 didn't work very well so I had to stick with 353.30 drivers which are excellent. But there were bad drivers in Win7 also so no difference there either :)

I am about to migrate to Win 10, and for the very first time since I use Windows this will be the first that I'll try the upgrade, and not a clean install, just to check how it goes...

Of course I made an image of my system with Win7 Home Premium 64 bit before starting the upgrade :-)

I will report back. Together with LM Prepar3d v2 amd Aerowinx PSX, IL2 BoS is my only combat sim, and I am really looking forward for a correct behavior in Win 10 !

I can't see the point....Windows 7 is awesome and works great, why change it?

Because the future is not Windows 7 ....

XP was also a great system...

I remember when the future was Vista and we all saw how that turned out lol

In DX11 games AMD/Radeon users are seeing a Big improvement in performance with Win 10 and their new drivers, how this effects AMD and DX9 with BoS is uncertain due to their historic lack of benefits to old tech with new drivers (DX9)

It remains to be seen how Nvidia will perform when they release the new drivers for the Win 10 rollout, the current beta ones are not highly rated, so perhaps best to wait and see for one more day :)

Ah ha! I was going to ask this question as I run Win 7 and was considering the Win 10 upgrade. So just to clarify, the Win 10 upgrade installs over the Win 7 without the need to make a clean install and start over? Right?

Yes it is supposed to be flawless, and I will report it, but you can also fetch the ISO / PEN ... for a clean install from here:

Very true :-), and although I did install Win 8, i gave up because of the unfamous joystick problems... Hope to find in Win 10 that problem fixed for good :-)

So who has their copy of 10 yet from today's official release?

Me :-)

I "burned" a pen with the full installer, and performed an upgrade in a laptop with 8.1 - it works smooth & stable and I am really enjoying it!

Tonight, if I manage to get home with my eyes opened enough to go through that process in my home ( simming ) PC, I will do it ans test my beloved IL2 BoS ASAP!!!! and report here the SUCCESS ( positive thoughts are a must... )

I'm happy to sit back and wait to see what people think first.

It was fun enough getting the Thrust master Cougar drivers installed in Window 7 64-bit........I am going to do it........but I like living life on the edge........of a reinstall of 7 :)

I've been running BoS with windows 10 for about a month or so. Works great :) Haven't had a problem.

You have to install it as upgrade first, this is very important or your key will not work. After an upgrade from 7. 8 or 8.1 the key will be recognised as a W10 key and you can do a clean install. BUT NOT BEFORE!!! UPGRADE FIRST!!! If you fail to do this you will have to install W7. 8 or 8.1 again and then upgrade. Unless you have bought a W10 key of course ;)

Well guys,

I aborted my update :-(

1) To start with, not only did the GWX icon disappear from my taskbar, as well as the notification that my copy was reserved from Windows Update Tab, but as I tried to manually do the upgrade, using the upgrade and media creation tool, I was faced with the fact that I would not be able to port my installed applications, but only my private data, because supposedly the language of the target update differed from my Win 7 language, which doesn't make the slightest sense ....

2) Apart from Il2 BoS I am also using Lockheed Martin's Prepar3d v2.5, which has been reported by some users as having problems running in the new version of Windows, and it is actually not yet supported by LM, so....

I decided not to upgrade now. In a year or so, if I have the chance ( $$$ ) to upgrade to a new rig, I will consider Win 10...

Not really a problem - Il2 BoS runs so smooth on my present rig, P3Dv2 very good as well, as PSX like a charm, so....

I heard that for the Windows 10 Home edition, updates - including video drivers - will be compulsory, ie you will no longer be able to choose whether to install or not. This is the only thing making me wary of switching from Win 7 at the moment.

Presume you are using the Pro version then, if you can defer or roll back to a previous driver?

As far as I know you can disable the automatic driver updates - not entirely sure though and as the free upgrade is available for a whole year I think it wouldn´t hurt to wait a bit.

Yes I have a Pro version. But update install is compulsory even with Pro. I used a Microsoft tool to block Nvidia driver from Windows update. Hope they change that in future.

Nearly. It cost me $30 for the promotional offer from Microsoft when Win 7 launched. They are the same OS... Win 7 benefited from polish and a couple extra years of companies adapting to the new driver model.

Only thing that makes me a little concerned about doing the update. I'm glad to hear that folks aren't having any troubles with IL-2 BoS on the platform. I'm suggesting to friends and family to wait it out a bit... but I'd really like to do the update on my laptop ASAP so I can start learning how to tweak it.

Lol on last

My opinion is if it ain't broke why upgrade at least for bos as the consensus is that there won't be any big performance gains for dx9

There are some overall performance benefits between Win7 and Win8 that were benchmarked early on. More the newer your hardware was. If Windows 10 retains Windows 8 streamlining and improved memory management then it should run marginally better.

Windows 7 isn't broken but it's also more than a few years old now. Times change and so do operating systems. I won't be jumping in day one on my primary PC but IMHO I wouldn't discount it either.

I did :)

I got it free on a very expensive laptop....luckily my wife left our kitchen window open one night and the offending article was stolen :D

I'm just kidding around but I've just found over the years skipping generations of Windows tended to work out well I had 2000, then XP and then 7 and missed out on Vista and Windows 8 because new stuff always seems to be full of problems. If Windows 10 is all it's cracked up to be in a few months I might upgrade but Windows 8 really looked horrible for me and I don't want an OS designed for tablets on my gaming rig.

Posted

Upgraded my iMac which was running Win7 64 bit and not only was the install flawless but everything 'seems' smoother and slicker? Frame-rates seem about the same but the whole system just seems to work much better.

First time in thirty odd years I've not had any problems with a new OS...  :)

Windows 8 was / is perfectly usable on a desktop system ..

Meanwhile I´ve upgraded to Win 10 too because I was gonna do a reinstall of my system anyways .. so far no problems.

Everything is running fine - including Track IR, X-55, BoS ..

One thing got worse when upgraded to Win10. I get loud crack or click sound when launching BoS. I am using headphones and it`s very annoying. I start Opentrack before launching the game and I don`t always remember to take headphones off.

Anyone else have have this problem? What could be the cause?
