JtD Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Hi, just got pointed to this, don't think it's shown up on this board. Nice video of the flying heritage collection showing an Il-2 and Fw 190A-5 side by side. This Fw 190 is the only one in the world to fly with an BMW 801 engine. Two things I found very interesting - how quiet the the Fw 190 cockpit is and the view distortion along the bends of the glass canopy. Wonder if that can done in BoS. Not of utmost importance, but still pretty cool. 6
FlatSpinMan Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 This is a great video. They both look so beautiful. The comment about the cockpit noise was interesting. It looked like the Il2 was open in the gunner's compartment. The 190 just seemed to hiss through the air.
JtD Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 Ah, now we can post here. Thanks to whoever fixed it.
FlatSpinMan Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 That would be Zak, courtesy of Bongodriver.

Capt_Stubing Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 When the video starts and you see the three gentlemen planning their flight... That is Steve Hinton from my neck of the woods out at Planes of Fame Chino. That is also in Jason's back yard and was featured on his trip with the developers. Steve has flown about everything you could imagine and was responsible for test flying Paul Allen's FW A5. Very cool video.
JG4_Sputnik Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Three things: 1. Thank you, wonderful video! 2. N O bar at the bottom of the ReVi (clearly seen at 2min 37sec) 3. a lot of distortion where the canopy glass of the FW190 is bent. I hope 777 will notice and simulate it in BoS.
Uufflakke Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Hi, just got pointed to this, don't think it's shown up on this board. But you have posted it already. In another board. http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/1723-il-2-and-fw-190-youtube-video/ Anyway, let the discussion about the FW-190's bar begin.
dkoor Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Lovely. I actually am positively surprised how good visibility is from those pits. Both IL-2 and FW-190.
CUJO_1970 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Nothing to discuss really. It should never have been an issue and it's a shame things went the way they did back in the day. This video clearly shows what pilots reported regarding the view from the FW190: superb all-around view in flight - hard to see over the nose during finals because of the big radial engine while in the "three point" attitude. I too was suprised at how quiet it was in the cockpit! Anyway, let the discussion about the FW-190's bar begin.
II./JG27_Rich Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 I'd like to here that pilots review on the 190. He did a good one on the A6M
SOLIDKREATE Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 (edited) I got to touch this plane personally. I felt dirty and pervy but good at the same time. Edited October 23, 2013 by Erg./JG54_SPEKTRE 1

Crump Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 a lot of distortion where the canopy glass of the FW190 is bent. Me too. I hope they do that for all compound curve canopies. It would add a lot of realism.

andyw248 Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I love the pilot's perspective, even though it's a bit high with the gopro mounted in front of the pilot's forehead. But it's still nice to see how the cowling blocks his view when he flares for the landing. Also great formation flying...
