Ju-52: Slow and underarmed, but also the most important transport plane of the Battle.

Me-323: Heavily armed, but slow and clumsy.

Also vulnerable to the A-team.

Fw-200: Heavily armed, but liable to breaking up on landing. Not a dedicated transport plane.

He-177: Heavily armed, but it's four engines (two in each nacelle) are vulnerable to malfunctioning. Not a dedicated transport plane.

52 is the only realistic option tbh.

To add any other transport before that one is added would be a crime.

Fw-200s and He-177s did take part in the Battle of Stalingrad as transports, and I'm not sure about the Me-323.

But yeah, the Ju-52 should be added first.

The 52 would be a sound choice. It would be viral part of any other theatre addon they make too. Time well spent.

Yeah, but how many people are going to purchase the Ju52?

Ju 52 of course...

I most certainly would. Trying to fly in and out of Stalingrad would be very exciting. Especially if there was a refuel/rearm feature.

Imagine beating the odds and winning through to Gumrak. Do you end the mission there and take the points awarded, or accept the danger of waiting on the ground to be reloaded then try to make it back out? Points for a round trip being much, much higher than a one-way journey. Maybe if you end a mission inside the surrounded area, your next mission needs to be as a passenger or gunner on the next available aircraft out. Plenty if things can be done to make these types of aircraft really rewarding. Somebody just needs to show a bit of imagination.

Well in another title where the c47 and Ju52 are directly required to capture airfields and advance the front lines the people that use them are very few... And those planes come included ($15/mo though). So I'm not certain the development time and effort would translate into a worthwhile return for the devs. So I think that'd place it on the back burner for some time until more popular aircraft are done.

If it were me, I'd put a virtual bounty of points on transport aircraft so they become the prey of choice for every online fighter. I'd also make the rewards for successful transport flyers so high that they would be a force to be reckoned with on the leader boards.

Hmm looks like some one is not too familiar with german transport aircraft?

A lot of aircraft have been missed that where around during the battle of Stalingrad.

Where is a Ju 290 which by 1942 was seen as a replacement for the FW 200?

JK, I agree the Ju-52 makes the most sense.

To fly? No thanks....only to shoot down.

Both for me.

Of course to fly, as some enjoy a challenge and not just fighters.............

By the way no logistics no fuel no ammo and those fancy fighters are

rather heavy on the ground. :P

Damn, I forgot about the 290.

But the 390 never entered service. Only two prototypes were built, and the most they did was a flight to America that might not have even happened.

Yes my bad, it should have been the Ju 252 , the Ju 86 or the Arado 232

The Ar-232 would make an interesting plane to fly :)

And I don't think that the Ju-86 has ever been in a flight sim, so it would be nice to see that as well.

The 323 was involved in Kuban, but not in Stalingrad

ju52 would ne nice, but i wouldnt pay for it (ROF add-on style).

me323 would be a nice gimmick too, i had some fun with it on the mods version, but again, i wouldnt pay for it.

I would, partly to support the game, but also for the challenge of taking a probably over loaded aircraft in and out of marginal airfields in horrendous conditions, making parachute drops and supply runs and also to have the '52 as a target for my missions when I was flying aircraft with stars on them.

OK, thanks for the info.

And: WELCOME!

Simple:

No Ju52=no realistic battle of Stalingrad; Ju52 (flyable with historical loadouts and rewards for pilots)= realistic Stalingrad theatre of operation. Ju52 is one of the most important aircraft of the front. You cannot fight without supply, but this is even more important when you are encircled in the Kessel.

In fact, there speed(+logistics) was life....Providing supplies was just as important as bombing the enemy or shoot it down. Logistics is always a great -though always under represented- part of a war. We hopefully can change that for this sim. We need cargo planes....

More important might be the question which one of them will be modelled by the community :P

That is almost like asking which game will be modeled by the community

I'd buy a transport plane. But only if they made capturing bases, resupplying cities and airfields a cool gameplay option. They did it in Airwarrior back in the 90s I don't get why they can't do it now. Some of my most exciting missions were flying below radar in a C-47 dropping troops on a base to capture it.

I flew C47 and Tante Ju in aces high and ww2 online a lot.

You should see how pissed the fighter jocks were when I droped human paratroopers next to their field and every time they tried to take a fighter up, they would get shot in the head while starting the plane. :)

Now just imagine flying that giant and sneaking a howitzer close to your fighter base, far away from the front....

Magnetos ON, trim five clicks up, engine ON.....Boom, there goes half your squad. :) "WTF?"

As I see it the 52 is still the most logical .... now if this was 'fantasy' Cold War IL2 I'd like to go with the B58 Hustler!

What about Li-2???

German transport planes are necessary for the sim. Russian transports aren't.

Now that the devs have seen that people would rather have a Ju 52 than a He 177 (which surprised me tbh), perhaps they'll finally come to their senses and start working on the 'Iron Annie' :)

Posted

Well hope that the He 177 is added some day as a bomber!
