Just to test performance in windowed vs fullscreen, I trid to uncheck "Fullscreen" in the Launcher, but it still runs in fullscreen.

I also tried to uncheck fullscreen in the settings inside the game and restartet it, but still it keeps running in fullscreen.

Any clue how to get it out of fullscreen mode ?

Try lowering the resolution after unchecking "fullscreen" option. It does run in windowed mode, but it takes all your screen space (hence it looks like fullscreen). Hope that makes sense :-)

Ah...Now I see...

Since I run in 1920x1080, which is the same as my monitor, I am not able to see the task bar.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Yes...

I don´t think I get better FPS, but FPS are more consistent.

Problem is when there are large FPS flucturations, that this causes micro stutters.

They seem to have become much less in windowed mode.

To use it it have turned the FPS limiter off in IL-2 BoS.

The difference with IL-2 BoS vs other games running in windowed mode, is that when setting IL-2 BoS to Your native resolution used by Your monitor, thenYou won´t see much difference between windowed and fullscreen, since IL-2 BoS will use Your entire screen, thus no borders or windows start menu bar at the bottom.

I am using a 2160x3840 monitor but I find that I cannot use the game in "windowed" mode ie with Full Screen unchecked. It seems that the game still thinks my monitor is 1080p and scales the image up 2x so it overlaps my monitor edges. If I set it to run at 1440x2560 the same thing happens. The only way it will run is either set to 2160x3480 and Full Screen or to run at 1080x1920

After trying this in BoS I tried it in other games. I always assumed full screen was the right setting. I saw a lot of improvement in Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty AW. It works really well in some games not to set full screen if you're running at your native monitor res.

In the past 1CGS has mentioned Full Screen is to blame for game crashes so perhaps it's worth trying out.

Same, when trying to run BoS in windowed mode at 3840 x 2160 native res only a small part of the screen image is shown on the whole screen, work fine when left at full screen

Ok. Good to know its not just me ;-)

I asked support and I'll post a solution if they tell me. RoF has the same problem too.

have you tried reinstalling the game? I haven't yet but that's my next idea.

Solved it!

For whatever reason BoS uses this size when scaling itself for Windows without "Full Screen" checked. I had this set to 200% in order to see every object on my screen the same size as before when I had a 1080p screen. I made BoS appear 2x the size as well when Full Screen wasn't checked. With this set to 100% BoS appears the size of my desktop when full screen is not checked.

With 4k monitor I was using Desktop at 1440P to also get bigger icons text, and leaving the above slider at 100% and still getting the magnification issue when plying at 4K in game, however when setting my desktop to native 2160P and then going to game in 'windowed'  mode at 4K 2160P  all works fine :) and am able to play without Vsync and no screen tearing which is the main benefit of 'windowed' mode, thus getting some performance improvements leaving Full Screen unchecked

Yeah setting the desktop to 1440 is a great idea, it works well.

About that issue in 4k resolution or different resolution, the fix it's right click on the icons launcher game,IL 2 BoS.exe, click in propiety---->compatibility and check the voice-----> Disable display scaling on high dpi values....that's all!

That work if you dont wont downscale everytime your desktop DPI, as it happens to me , if i had the graphic option disabled...fullscreen.! :good:

I have a 24" 1080 monitor and play Il2 at the same resolution. If i understand this correct, unchecking fullscreen will give me some better performance?

Will try this tomorrow.
