FlatSpinMan Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 The day must be upon us sometime pretty soon (and hasn't it been insanely fast from announcement to now?), so no doubt some are thinking of how they plan to experience Battle of Stalingrad for the first time. Its going to be a beta, so it'll be missing all kinds of things -exactly what, I don't know - but it won't be complete. That said, using your dreams and your best guesses, how do you plan to spend your first moments with Battle of Stalingrad? As for me,I'm gonna blow through the setup screens as fast as I can then jump into a 109 and go for a rough and ready, easy settings blat to take in whatever sights there are and check out just how goddamned sexy my new ride looks in fly by view. Then I'll try a stall and recovery, shoot at the ground to see how that looks, then I don't know, fly into the ground to see if we have a damage model yet, and if so, how good it is. After that I'll reload, set up a quick dogfight over the nicest scenery I an find (please please please please please Stalingrad is ready) then see how the ballistics are - with those funky old guns in RoF it took me ages to get used to - then try to shoot down whatever Russian plane I can. I still mix them up, so an early job will be remembering which is a LaGG and which is a Yak. And then I'll get to grips with setting up things properly. Some of you may accuse me of frivolousness and an inability to defer gratification to which I say, ooh, some shiny thing is on TV. Gotta go! 1
=LD=Hethwill Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 First things first, i'll open a bottle of brandy. Then... Going to test all the graphic settings, lowest to highest, while "relearning" my beloved Lagg.
[JG2]Fenderalac Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Get into a 109, lowest graphics, fast joystick set up, take off, shoot, set up pan on hatswith ,crashland, land, stall, spin, drink, fly, crawl, fight, blunts rolled tight, colt .45 cold!
ATAG_Slipstream Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Graphics set up first, then controls then hit 'fly' and see what happens when several thousand people try the same thing all at once. Its a beta so I half expect some issues with everyone stress testing the server.
senseispcc Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 The developers said in autumn they never said witch year ! Joke this is a joke people...
Sim Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Will do a free flight mission from a cold start Probably LaGG 3 for funs!
Matt Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Set maximum graphics. QMB with me alone. Not sure which plane yet (109 perhaps). Second worst possible weather setting. Early morning. Then take-off and fly around a bit. Fiddle with flaps, weapons etc. and maybe shoot a flare while flying (i hope that's possible). Then either trying to land or ejecting, most likely the latter. Then i'll take the Lagg and fly a night mission with the fancy landing light and probably shoot a few rockets (if we get those already).
6S.Manu Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 (edited) Mhm... beta should have every feature and should be used to catch bugs. I think it will be an alpha, as not the features will be there (CloD was released as pre-alpha IMO).In this order: - takeoffs and landings - stalls, spins and recovers - checking of high speed controls and structural damage - testing wrong engine management. Edited October 7, 2013 by 6S.Manu 1
=LD=Scronce Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Probably fly a few solo mission sorties, then go find hethwill and kick his skinny rocker arse
J4SCrisZeri Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I guess it's going to be late night, nerding around with settings, then a quick flight in the late afternoon in order to have warmer lights and long shadows. A couple hours drooling over the 109, the textures, the reflections, then a massive session of fly by view delight, and then shooting around, moving some mud/snow, then maybe a crash just to see how the plane gets damaged. Ah, and a couple takeoffs and landings, enjoying the terrain and scenarios. All this while listening to the sound engine through my 7.1 audio system.
Finkeren Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I'll set up the basic controls for CEM, put graphics on max, difficulty on full physics but with no restrictions on view and try out the LaGG for a solo flight, preferably starting on the ground. After getting the engine running I'll propably spend a few minutes trying to figure out the different gauges and then take off. After getting airborne, which might take a few attempts, I'll propably first climb to at least 5000m to get a good look at the landscape from an altitude, fiddle with mixture and prop pitch as I climb. I'll propably try the fly-by view (if it's implemented) to appreciate the sound and Doppler-effect. Then on to some basic aerobatics, end up on the deck and fire a few rounds into some ground objects. I'll propably end the first flight by crashing, either voluntary or involuntary, to get a good look at the DM. I don't land on first date.
SvAF/F19_Klunk Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 setup : then if it's be available; Stuka...... Hopefully we might have a "first flight session "within our squadron,, a few of us have pre-ordered. It would be amazing to share the first flight with my buddies... if Stuke isn't available, then Lagg
Bearcat Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Turn on Fraps. Read through documentation. Check out interface. set up controls. Max out graphics. Take a solo spin .. hopefully in my La.. and see how it handles. Then do the same thing in some of the other available aircraft. Then set up a QM with the Max number of aircraft and worst weather possible to see what that does on my system. The try online.
Revvin Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Turn on Fraps, fire up the game, tweak the graphics settings to what I hope my system will run and then hit the 'Fly' button with my eyes squinting and my fingers crossed praying it runs ok after a year of waiting patiently for the heir to the IL-2 legacy to arrive
SYN_Blackrat Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Get a dedicated server up and running, then try and break it 2
BeastyBaiter Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Try to find a graphics setting that both looks good and doesn't kill my 3 year old machine. Will also setup the stick. After those two obvious things, a free flight in the 109F to look around and get the feel for flying a WW2 bird in this physics engine. Beyond that, it will depend on what content is present.
Feathered_IV Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Straight to the Il-2 if it's there. Then do a bit of low level sight seeing.
TheBlackPenguin Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 - Setup controls. - Jump into the cockpit of the Lagg3 and take her for a circuit, followed by some aerobatics - Try the 109 next
Foobar Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 First I'll pick my beloved 110 and then... wait... did I say 110? ok. First I'll check the trains.
Rigsby Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 (edited) I plan to download it and play not sure in which order order though. Edited October 7, 2013 by Rigsby
AX2 Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 (edited) 1- Setup Basics controls. 2- Set maximum graphics 3- QMB air start 4- Check FPS 5- Then down the graphics to medium settings, Maybe I think .. 6- Look for official online server developed for testing purposes. 7- Then fly and search a enemy plane. 8- If I Kill a enemy plane. I will come to the forum ...and will say that the BoS Sim is Great, Thanks Thanks Thanks !. 9- If my plane is Shot Down. I will come to the forum - and I will start a long complains about flight models. After two weeks flying BoS, ... I'll be saying the opposite about 8 and 9 Edited October 7, 2013 by Mustang
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 (edited) Im going to take it all in, nice and slow...take my time over the menus, go through the controls first, map everything out just how i want, then game settings..full on im rock hard settings, then into the graphics, everything cranked right up.When im good and ready i will go into the QMB or single missions to see if i can set up a single 109F4 on the runway at dawn with a few clouds, choose cool skin, nothing else...load up the mission, quickly go to outside view, pretending i didn't start in the cockpit, then look at the F4 for a bit, have a bit of a walk round her, going through pretend checks of the aircraft...lol.Then open the canopy from outside view pretending im getting in, then to cockpit view, check all the dials and knobs and go through pretend pre-flight checks, fire it up and let her warm up a bit while watching the temps rise and the day dawn. When shes ready to go, close canopy, taxi a bit on the runway if i didn't start near the hanger, then line up, and were off! clean up, gentle climb while watching temps revs and other stuff, couple of circuits of the airfield while getting a feel for her, then open her up, harder climb, then start some harder turns and rolls, some stalls, dives, hammerheads, then a hard dive to the deck for some fast low level flying taking in the feeling of speed. Then back to the airfield, some circuits and then some touch and go's before a proper landing, open canopy, taxi to the hanger, shut down, close canopy and a then final look round at the aircraft. End mission. 2nd mission... Shoot the crap out of stuff! Edited October 7, 2013 by =BKHZ=Furbs
Freycinet Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I plan to read the manual carefully, and then.... Naaah, just kidding! ;-)
Rodolphe Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 ... A Lot of optimism ! So we should not expect any of these messages ? Out of Memory errors Win7 and 2-core CPU: Stuttering solution Game Freeze on Personnel Page Script-Error Message on Startscreen Starting Server then back to main screen Crash to Desktop Etc. I wish every members of this community to have a successful experience with BoS. ...
Jaws2002 Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 basic controls, max out graphics, fill the QMB with lots of German ground targets, then blow them all up with a single seater Il-2. 1
J2_Trupobaw Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 (edited) 1) Max out graphics2) Set up controls3) Take a randomly chosen plane for a free flight; restart to adjust graphics if necessary; see if it breaks when I try aerobatics / CEM4) Find an airfield and try landing. If plane survives, try taking off.5) See if there are any single SP missions that look easy enough.6) See if there is a dynamic SP career7) See if there is any SP campaign8)When bored, go look at MPBut the early alpha access does not have to mean "all functions we have completed for the game, for you to play the game early"; I don't rule out "this week, we are testing following mode" kind of access. So I may just play whatever function I have access to... like the rest of us. Edited October 7, 2013 by Trupobaw
SYN_Haashashin Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Get a dedicated server up and running, then try and break it I will take a spin in a Lagg and then open the ME to make a mission for the server then go and try to break it!!
SR-F_Winger Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Get into my 109 and test out all its limits. Then switch over and test the limits of the next plane.
Dutch Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Max out graphics and sound, set up all basic hotas controls, then set up a solo IL2 in the QMB from start-up at Dawn in cloudy conditions, then go back into controls and reverse all the axes which are doing the opposite to what I'd expect. Then if there are no (not responding) messages anywhere, I intend to take off and have a look around, and see if any of that old old feeling returns. If all that goes ok, I'll do the first mission of the Campaign, if there is one. If not I'll probably just wait until there is.
Volkoff Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I am going to take up a LaGG-3 for the first time. MJ
Allons Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 See wether start screen biulds up properly -> listen if any sound is delivered -> Alt+Tab -> revisit the forum -> mock the aluminium founders
=AVG=Zombie Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 When it does finally get released ill probably pee myself.
BigMotor Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 My tradition is to cross both fingers and then click on fly.
Rjel Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I think I'll climb into the first 109 that I find and do some low level flying to see how smooth it feels. If that goes well I'll climb for high altitude to see what the flight model feels like up high. Imagine, a WWII sim with good high altitude performance. We've waited a long time for that. Fingers crossed there. After that, I think I'll just start running thru the 109's systems to see if everything is working or what bugs I might stumble on. I don't expect many. 1
Skoshi_Tiger Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I'll break with pack, I'll try setting up my HOTAS and do the training missions. Who's going to capture their first flight?
