[TWB] - The Eagles Nest - Dynamic MP Campaign

Are you looking for a new home?

We at the Wet Bandits are proud to announce the resurrection of our historical based IL-2 BoX server.

Search for wz0yUam.jpg

What makes us different than other servers out there?

  • All of our missions have easy-to-read mission briefs on our stats page. Each briefing includes: pertinent historical information, a listing of both Axis and Allied objectives, and a campaign map to help you maintain your bearings.
  • Earn medals, points, and view your overall performance on our statistics page for both of our Saturday campaigns, as well as for the day to day pilots.
  • Our missions are dynamic. Forget stale, static objects that you deja-vu-bomb until the next mission so that you can do it all over again. We have supply convoys enroute to reinforce forward bases, Ju52s attempting to provide medical aid to troops on the ground, observation planes providing reconnaissance to pilots in the area, a bridge that need to be destroyed before the train crosses it, and more! And this is just one mission, of the many we already have – with many more on the way.
  • Living, operational airfields. From correct taxing, take-off/landing directions both on the ground and written into the map to functional non-directional beacons, landing fires, and flares. We help you get your bent bird back home while seeking to ensure you aren’t also forced to dodge the other guy taking off in the wrong direction.
  • Instant feedback from objectives drives the action… Is their AAA destroyed? Is our convoy under attack? Are enemy recon planes in the area? On our server, you’ll know all of this on-the-fly, and can react immediately and respond to it accordingly. Not two to three minutes after the attack occurred…
  • Objectives crafted for maximum player versus player interaction. Forget flying circuits around a map for 30 minutes or more without seeing a target to shoot at. Our missions are designed to have pilots meet, and compete, with each other in air combat while defending their ground units.  If that’s not enough realism for you, you can always hand-write after action reports once the guns cool off!
  • An American server with American latency. Miss the shot because you missed, not because the plane warped away from you. Hosted on a fiber-optic pipe, the server is geographically located on the Eastern coast of the United States. This offers a clean connection and balanced latency for pilots on both the west coast and across the pond in the UK, as well as our neighbors both north and south.
  • Operated by an administrative staff that is actively monitoring and attending to performance and availability concerns during peak US times and beyond, as well as seeing to the expeditious removal of undesirable elements from the field of play.

What about Saturday Bomber Flights?

Well, since you asked, we ARE also starting up a new Saturday Bomber Flights campaign. These missions are entirely separate from [DBS]TX_Tips FNBF missions – who by the way, makes amazing missions – and are slated to run on Saturday in order to make the game available to all players in the western hemisphere, from California to the UK.

The campaign starts this Saturday, May 13th, 2017 at 1400 Central Standard Time.

Like other campaigns, we’ll start in the early days of the war and each Saturday work towards the conflict’s conclusion. Of course, the outcome will be altered based upon the success of each side’s pilots in seeing their individual objectives completed. Each week’s destroyed objectives will be tallied up and the next week’s mission set will be adjusted based on those objectives.

These missions are different than our daily missions, and are designed to be historical. That means no anachronistic GPS, Psychic Friends Network kill messages, whimsical modification of equipment that’s assigned to you, or magically having 100% fuel all of the time like you’re strapped onto a cold fusion reactor. You’ll have to contend with all of the things you manage in our standard daily missions, while also successfully keeping track of your location, friendly cover, fuel levels, and manually confirm your kills. Don’t worry if you’re not the best pilot in the world. The struggle to bring all of these things together is a great deal of the fun, and besides, The Wet Bandits welcome all levels of play into our campaign. All you have to do is sign up! Once you do register and pick a side, you can view your team’s mission briefing for that week.

I have more questions!

Not flown yet, but had a quick look at the mission screen, and looks great (Probably the best one so far in fact)! Some really cool ideas with the defence of multiple airfields. Looking forward to flying on it later!

Should mention, the train at basargino is marked as 'defend' for both sides, I'm assuming the russians are meant to attack it?

I flew it briefly today. Took off with the IL2 at the southern forward airfield, after I made a fool of myself getting it into the air I was accompanied by  a LA-5. The pilot flew in very close formation which was awesome. I got lost looking for some tanks but found them closer to two southern airfields.

Blew up 3 tanks and 3 light armoured. Ran out of ammo and landed back at base, it was cool. Will try again later, once I sort out my pilot head position it was all stuffed up (I use track IR)

Great to see you guys gave Aborted a new place to create missions.

I joined earlier today for a quick 111 sortie - stupid self-destroying rear wheel bug nearly killed me right away and then again on landing   - and I have to admit that I squealed a bit in delight at seeing how complex the map was.

Assuming I can get some of the folks I play with to give BoS MP a(nother/any) chance I'll be sure to make this our home.

Two quick questions:

a) When I joined the Eastern-most of the German stating fields read as needing resupply, does this take two 111 flights as well? Or is that based on a timer/convoy?

b) Tied into the above and especially in the context of the rear wheel thing, does a resupply run still require the 111 to be in perfect health as in the olden days, or does the ME/code allow more leeway in that regard these days?

Anyway, cheers!

Hey Wellenbrecher, glad to see you back! Resupply takes two He-111's, but I have seen it only take one on some occasions online...not sure if this is a network related bug or if I messed it up on some of the airfields...or I just didn't notice a 2nd He-111 landing. The criteria for the mission logic to accept a resupply is "finished stationary and alive" in the right spot (the runway). I believe "alive" in BoS means engines running and/or only pilot alive and aircraft in one piece (wings and all)...still not sure about that. I've definitely seen aircraft take lots and lots of damage and even land with an engine on fire and still work for the resupply counter. If you can reproduce any instances of something strange going on or conflicting, let me know.

Also, there is a "recon mission" on the Russian side out of Verk. Akhtuba that I could use some help with testing. In its current version, you take the "437 IAP - Recon" aircraft to fly out and search for enemy armor positions (vaguely marked on map), once you get close enough to the German armor you'll get a notification and a timer to return to base as fast as you can before the intel "expires". If you make it back in time (and in one piece) you will reveal the German tank's position on the map for your team for ten minutes. It's still very much a work in progress and it's a pretty makeshift use of mechanics to get the concept working, but with some work and vigorous testing it should be workable. Everyone please give it a try and provide bugs/suggestions/feedback.

Just for information sharing sake, last night Karp had 1 G2 and 0 190s available.

I drunkenly smashed a supply 111 into the runway, totalled both engines, and ended mission... took a look, and Karp had 6 G2s and 6 190s.... didn't see any other 111s, and there were a lot of raiders in the area.

Hey Mastiff, thanks...There's nothing we can do with this though, since you're the only one getting it and it seemingly has to do with something in the game, not the mission/server. As we discussed, you should be posting this to a dev/bug server.

Flew around a bit, scouting. Missed all the action it seemed, or maybe I was just too high up. I have no real experience with spotting ground targets in BoS to be honest and just wanted to see the recon script in action.

Got the message that Beketovka was under attack, went there, shot down two 111 and went home.

Or rather I tried as I ran out of juice after a few minutes, judging by the holes in my wings the 111 gunners did a number on my tanks. Managed to do a - if I may say so myself  :P - beautiful emergency landing on a road somewhere south of Stalingrad. Good times.

Shame it was empty but for one lone Axis player at the time, but it was still one of the best BoS experiences I've had. By simple virtue of feeling like a battlefield in motion. If only the "campaign" would be anything like the server...

Anyway, cheers TWB and Aborted for making this.

Will do :>

Say, I saw there was a Pe-2 marked as recon but none of the Yaks was marked like that. Was I just blind to miss the "437 IAP - Recon" Yak in V. Akthuba or did you switch over to Pe-2s completely for scouting purposes?

Posted

I've been trying different aircraft to see what works best and got a lot of requests to make the pe-2 the recon aircraft. It was a yak before, but people kept taking them out just to dogfight when the other yaks were depleted. Right now the LaGG 3 and the Pe-2 should be available for recon.

Just wanted to say how much of a great time I had on this server.

It was an overwhelmingly positive experience.

First off the TS server had plenty of people on it from all around the globe. US, Canada, Russia, South America and Oceania.

The mission design is second to none from what I've seen.  A real "campaign" feel to an online server - which caters for just about everyone I assume.  By that I mean dogfighters, ground-pounders and even special interest groups with the Recon and also Resupply missions.

And finally can I thank the members of The Wet Bandits themselves.  3 or 4 different people took time out of their day to help get me set up and working better.  Great advice on graphics card, in-game terrain settings, sound settings and general aircraft handling.

This server should serve as a beacon and example to others for what an immersive, interactive and friendly game server can do for the whole community.

IF YOU HAVENT TRIED THIS SERVER - YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON.

Thanks once again for all that you have done.

We have a lot of players logging in and asking how the heck they determine where they are.  I'll tell you right now, I was in that boat until about a week ago (and I am still not familiar with all areas of the map)... back when it was just Syndicate and Eagle's Nest (and later on, LD) during alpha, we had GPS on and off... when it wasn't there, I relied upon the guys in my squad that knew what they were doing.

So, due to people asking questions (which you can't always answer while dogfighting) about navigation - as well as some of the problems we see with people taxiing - I decided to take my new-found knowledge and throw together a quick video/stream covering some basic stuff.

If you're a veteran to this stuff, I guarantee it is going to be cringe-worthy... but, if you're struggling it might at least give you a new way to look at things.

(If you understand ground handling, and want to skip my dizzy-ass can't-walk-and-chew-bubble-gum-at-the-same-time explanation of tail wheel locking/unlock, you can skip to about 5 minutes or so for the navigation info)

I hadn't flown MP since last October and figured I needed a refresher course. So I watched this tutorial before jumping on the TWB - Eagles Nest Server. It definitely helped.

Nice tutorial! A great way to practice navigation in game is to play the 'Ghost in the Snow' mission where you have to navigate an IL-2 to some targets.

Just FYI. Couple of us flew together on the TWB - Eagles Nest server last nite, flying out of Raygorod. The first pilot could spawn normally but second guy to spawn onto the airfield, or any other Airfield,  was unable to do so until he exited and reentered the server. Then he could spawn in OK.  This happened several times to different players.

Also we were unable to assume gunners stations, maybe we were doing something incorrectly though.

Nonetheless this is a great Server and I can see from the Log on the Wet Bandits Website its constantly being  tweaked and updated. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Hey Oneeyeddog, I think this might be something with the new version of IL2 released yesterday.  A few people in our group have experienced this also.  One of the workarounds we've found is to click a different airfield and choose "spectate" then "finish spectate".  Then select the field you want, choose/configure your aircraft and then you should be able to spawn.

I can say that before the patch, gunners were working as expected; however, we haven't yet tested on the new version.  I've added to our testing list for tonight!

Thanks for flying and for the feedback!  <Salute!>

Its important to know that this just doesn't happen one any one particular server.

Interesting.  Isn't this a problem with RoF too after the latest mini patch?

We flew the TWB - Eagles Nest Server again last nite.

We experienced No problems with consecutive players spawning in as we had the evening before.

Unlike the nite before Another player was able to occupy the gunners position in my AC, although he was hovering outside. This could be a fault on our end and is based on one guy and one AC as No one else attempted to be a gunner.

Flying the Stuka I was able to use the direction finder, a first for me, to make my way home.

we flew supply and bombing missions. On the return trip from a bombing run we noticed we were being stalked by a PE-2. He appeared unaware of the second trailing Stuka so we were able to turn the tables on him and after a lengthy pursuit, shoot him down. He was a wily opponent and he did not go down until both our Stukas were out of 7.62 ammo.

We having a Blast on this Server!

Interesting.  Isn't this a problem with RoF too after the latest mini patch?

DD_Arthur I don't know if this is the same problem as RoF but based on my experience in this particular BoS server  it seems like its fixed and is no longer an issue.
