Hi peterla,

first of all thank you very much for making the skin.

Here is the link i found

http://mig3.sovietwa.../il2m3-camo.htm

Please take a look at this site.

There is an emblem missing on the tail

quote

It probably belongs to 233th ShAD (Shturmovik Air Division) that marked its planes with an oblique white cap or with an overall white tail (timing and meaning of this latter mark is unknown, but it has been seen on photos of other planes too). Seems that the plane bears a band around the fuselage and a front of the spinner in blue, if it's of the 198th ShAP, or in red if it belongs to 62 ShAP, another regiment of the same division.

This image below shows a prospectically corrected part of the tail, where it seems to be a personal emblem, perhaps a winged spitfire lion.
The flushed gun fairings, visible in the first screenshot, identifies the plane as built in Z.18.

There are some orig b/w photos of this airvraft!!!

Thank you mate!

Fantastic.

I will take a look tomorrow and try to add the emblem. Also I see a typo error with the number one that is goint to de fusalage, I will check it also. I guess I moved by mistake when I was working with the tail star.

My pleasure mate. I like the sturmovik also. Thanks for the info!

Whe keep on touch.

Peterla

Hi Summers,
Thanks for the info. Ill take a look and try to add that symbol on the tail. I will also correct the length of number one that looks like is going to the fuselage. I guess I moved down while working on the tail star.
S!

*Edited: Changed length of number 1 to match fuselage and added symbol.

*Edited: Added nose marks!!!

Same link as before.

Just for your information. I'll make all the models on the upper row. I'm currently working on No2 White tail blue band thus I already have the template of number one and is easy to modify it to accommodate No2 and also N15.

Hi petrla,

Hi,

Number 2 is ready.  It's a nice aircraft to fly with No 1. Please refer to the custom skin post for more info.

As I found so interesting those nice aircraft I plan to do a couple more for those ones that like to fly on cooperative. Next projects are No 15, No 26, No 53 & No 40. I will need some help with the Russian typos on some of them.

Enjoy.

What a bird!!! :)  Peterla, you are outstanding. Red 19 and later red 12. Its like music in my ears.

Yes, for me the IL.2m3 (with the angeled wing) is my favorite russian ac. I like the IL-2, like the A-10C.

Great skin, great ac :salute:

Hi all,

As LcSummers was asking for a winter skin, here is one I'm working(is almost finished). The winter camo looks like it was applied only to the 70% of the aircraft an then for some reason stopped. The left side of the nose had some winter camo application that the right does not have and per the pics I have both parts of the tail boom are not symmetric. It appears that the white paint was again quickly applied.

Anyways, depending of the perspective you look at on the attached reconstruction picture, the winter camo on the nose is applied on the top view but not shown on the left one.

If someone had more info please comment.(And if you have those strange Russian fonts also No28)

The reason why some Il-2's didn't have the MK-7 white distemper paint applied to the nose is that the nose was often covered with a tarpaulin (canvas cover) whilst on the ground, and since the tarp was white, or light-coloured, there was no need for the nose to be painted white. Remember that in 1941 and 1942, especially, the camouflage applied to Il-2's was as much to protect them whilst on the ground from German attack as it was to camouflage them in the air. By the way, great job on the skins!

Jason

Then Jason, which one is more correct? Check the two different camo variations on the same picture. Edited:(Or is degradation of the white paint due to the continuous removal of the tarpaulin?)

That is a good question; however, as I recall the photograph of this particular aeroplane, the nose is indeed covered by a tarpaulin, so it may have even been painted white. I think Massimo here is making an educated guess, so I think you can make a guess here also and decide which one you like best. I think the complete absence of white on the nose of some Il-2's is due to its not having been painted at all; I have however seen photographs where there is some white, but it looks worn. In this case it could be that removing the tarp has caused the white paint to partially wear off.

Regards,

Jason

P.S. By the way, that exact aeroplane serves as my avatar, but with the nose painted white.
