JimTM Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Can you use Gimp to open .psd files and work on skins?
Jason_Williams Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I don't know the capabilities of Gimp or if they can open .psd files. I honestly don't remember, but if someone can convert the .psd files to Gimp I will gladly host them for download. Jason

SharpeXB Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Is there a way to set up a fast easy way, another website or forum place where all skins can easily be selected and downloaded? There will be hundreds of skins soon and anything that streamlines the process helps. I liked the "pack" system in RoF because it was so easy.

BlitzPig_EL Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Pretty sure you can. http://icrontic.com/discussion/7791 I have PSP 7. I get an error code then it shuts down.

6./ZG26_Gielow Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Where is the 100% historical German skins if you know what I mean???
3instein Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 OK so I downloaded Gimp, the DDS plugin and had a crack to see what all this skinning malarkey is all about.I think I need some practice though as I am sure something went wrong somehow. Pretty cool though, this viewer thingy, enjoying messing around with the Gimp. Mick.

Rjel Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 I have PSP 7. I get an error code then it shuts down. I can't remember now which .psd layers cause the problem anymore but I remember running into this back when skinning IL-2. If you can delete that layer, PSP7 will open .psd templates.

Phant0m Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Has anybody had any luck with GIMP? My first attempts have yielded some interesting results.
SAG Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 IM having some trouble using GIMP.... first, when i open the template i get this message.... so i click on "Keep" and get this.... i modify the layer "user paint here".... then i export as "dds" and get the following options to save my DDS file (i leave them all at default).... finally, i open the skin on the skin viewer and it shows my plane either completely Blue, white or transparent and can see all the internals.... what am i doing wrong or what options should i select?? any help would be greatly appreciated! S!
Mags Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Hmm, try the DXT5-things in the 'Save to DDS'-dialouge. I use that in the Photoshop-variant of the plug-in.

33lima Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Do you like yellow? Wow!!! Keep 'em coming! Just a suggestion here...and each skinner will deploy their particular talents as they see fit...but what would be really neat, would be that if we had a choice of skins for planes from units that actually flew in this theatre during this period. Having those available - and I'm hoping player-made skins will be immediately available, once installed - we are a step closer to being able to fly for historical squadrons. A nice touch would be to have two versions of each skin - one the player could select, and another which could be installed (as and when needed) to replace the default skin for that plane (assuming this is possible) - the replacement default skin having a different individual aircraft marking so that it's the right unit but not identical to the player.
PB0_Foxy Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 Pierre you're still very good for that job ! Very nice work

33lima Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) I see your pilot is getting plenty of sponsorship, Yakdriver. I hope that wreck ends up in the scrapyard before the regiment's commisar sees it, though. Bad enough that you sabotaged the war effort by destroying Soviet property, to wit, one LaGG-3 type fighting aeroplane. Worse still perhaps, the reckless spirit of capitalist free enterprise which said aircraft exhibits is hardly consistent with the true meaning of socialist thought and endeavour. I fear your next assignment might be a human sandbag as a Sturmovik back-seater. Edited December 24, 2014 by 33lima 1

Jaws2002 Posted December 24, 2014 Posted December 24, 2014 (edited) Merry Christmass all! Not a kicka$$ skin, just a basic one.
