They should expand RoF forward and Il-2 backward until they meet around 1930.

People died in every theater of war, but even then, we aren't deciding the next theater based only on how many people died there.

I think that North Africa will be a locigal theatre to expand these simultor.

Why I think so. P40 and Mc202 had minor role in the Eastern front but in the Nortern Africa

they had completely different role.

Right now we can put all Axis's planes (+ P40) to Norhern Africa map. We need only Allies planes

and perhaps some Italian bombers. Also we can use all Germans wehicles, tanks and artillery in the Northern Africa.

Only these reason I understand why we have P40 and Mc202 right now.

Stalin and Hitler the two dictators partitioned Europe.

Tell me please, who traited Czechoslovakia, and what countries partitioned it. You may use Google and Wiki :)

Russians lost about 200 000 soldiers in the winter war.

Soviets (not russians only - note it pls) lost:

-killed, missed in action, died of wounds ~ 127 000 soldiers

Finns lost:

-killed, missed in action, died of wounds ~ 23 000  soldiers

And, as people conveniently forget, the Soviets won which forced the Finns into making territorial concessions. On top of that the initially poor performance of the Red Army was largely due to Voroshilov's inability to adapt to an adversary that was offering stiff resistance. Immediately after he was replaced with Timoshenko (IIRC) the Red Army managed to open the way to Helsinki and pressure the Finnish government into either making a crappy deal or leaving it up to the military to square it off.

But anyhow, the history of the Soviet Union within the war is so major that I can hardly see a different theatre as an immediate follow up. Ideally a 1943 expansion will come with mixed Soviet and American/British aircraft, and an extra N.A. Desert map to quench the Western thirst while also playing into the continuity of the franchise as it exists now.

I'm curious though, how will the people who had trouble finding roads and rivers in winter deal with all the vast landmarks in a large desert setting :fly:

Ferrying damaged aircraft across a deserted area and (apparently, at least) without much of a plan B sounds like a terrible idea. Poor lad.

yes, while enjoying a war-themed game it is good not to forget the terrible amount of despair and suffering on all sides in a real war. And how much different that is to a game..

To be honest

Work wise I think it would be much less work for the developers to do the Med. Map. mapping a North African desert style map would be a lot easier then a whole new map complete with a bunch of cities and towns, and the plane set is just about complete for them to do it as well. Just my 2 cents...

To get a better picture, here are some poll results from the Russian-speaking forums:

Question: "Which theatre of operations are you waiting for the most?"

Results:

  1. Western Europe - 74
  2. Eastern Europe - 526
  3. Mediterranean - 99
  4. South-East Asia - 20
  5. Pacific - 141

Combining these votes with this poll, we have:

  1. European Theatre: Eastern Front (Barbarossa, Finland, Poland etc) - 748
  2. European Theatre: Western Front (BoB, Battle of Normandy etc) - 281
  3. Mediterranean and Middle East Theatre (East/North African, Italy etc) - 573
  4. Pacific Asian Theatre (Pacific ocean, Burma, Japan etc) - 407

While the Eastern Front is way ahead of the rest (predictably), it's interesting how the Western European Front lags behind virtually everyone in both communities.

On a side-note, here are the results of a more detailed poll conducted there. Same question as above. Results (top 5 bolded):

  1. Kuban - 56
  2. Kursk - 47

  3. Leningrad - 17

  4. Crimea - 41

  5. Other Eastern Front option - 5

  6. Battle of Britain - 4
  7. El-Alamein - 2
  8. Tunisia - 11
  9. Sicily - 4
  10. Mainland Italy - 0
  11. Other Western Front - 4
  12. Guadalcanal - 7
  13. Burma - 2
  14. New Guinea - 4
  15. Midway - 13
  16. Other Pacific/South-East Asia option - 1
  17. Spain - 9
  18. Winter War - 3
  19. Khalkhin-Gol - 1
  20. I don't know what I want, and I don't want what I know - 1

One of the problems with whatever scenario is chosen is the Luftwaffe. The two major fighters are already in the game, the Bf109 and Fw190. Yes, there are many marks and variations but they won't exactly be pulling people in by the droves. If you look at the major Luftwaffe types (leaving out recce, seaplanes and nightfighters), then we are missing

Fighters: Me262

Heavy Fighters: Me410

Ground Attack: Henschel Hs129

Bombers: Dornier Do17, Dornier Do217, Heinkel He177, Junkers Ju188

Bomber/Transport: Focke-Wulf Fw200

and that lot goes all the way across WW2 so don't all pop up together.

Now there are still some Russian fighters - plus all the medium bombers - that aren't in the sim; tellingly, quite a few of these are British or American types (Hurricane, Spitfire, P-39 Airacobra, P-63 Kingcobra, A-20 Havoc, B-25 Mitchell plus the B-24 Liberator heavy bomber.)

So if 777:1C are looking to expand the series to more players then it needs something really fresh... which is aircraft from the RAF, USA, Japan or Italy. I can't really see a US/Japan Pacific scenario in the offing just yet as nothing already in the sim apart from the P-40 fits; and as Lucas points out the western front doesn't get many people's votes. And the Battle of Britain must be a no-no while Cliffs of Dover is still so fresh in the mind - and still out there. So surely we are looking at either another Eastern Front scenario that includes some of the lend-lease jobs, or a Mediterranean one that has the RAF and Italian air forces in it along with the Luftwaffe.

My guess would be Murmansk or Malta or eventually both. Both will need sea and ships and there are crossovers between the aircraft we already have and both of those theatres of war.

Both would suit me, so it's just my two shillings worth of opinion of course, but whatever they decide to do it has to grab the punters and the best way to do that is to give us all something really new.

Cheers.

Pacific. Some zeros would be a good challenge.

To be honest the amount of content I have to play with is consuming enough as it is and I'm far from being bored with the plane set since I have all the 109s I could ever want and all the russian equipment has been really interesting to play with.

I'd almost love corea sabre vs mig15 in a decent corean map.

Whatever they do I'm sure they'll put their heart and soul into it to make it the best they know how.

Certainly would be a good set, but Leningrad is going to be a problem. It can't be blocked off like Moscow as it's likely to be in the middle of the map. Or if it is then that will be most weird.

Cheers.

Siege of Leningrad!

Finland-1944-Map-01.jpg

Very interesting and versatile plane setup because this front was almost stabile three years from July 1941 to June 1944. All the current BoS and BoM aircrafts are used over these Finnish and German fronts.

THERE WAS FIVE LARGE OFFENSIVES DURING WWII:

Winter War between Finland and Soviet Union. Karelian Isthmus November 1939 - March 1940

Finnish reconquest of the Karelian Isthmus on July 1941

German attack from Estonia (Gulf of Finland's south coast) against Leningrad on August-September 1941

Red Army pushed German Group North Army away from Leningrad on January 1944

Russian 4th Great Offensive against Finland on June-August 1944

ALLIES / VVS NEW PLANES

I-153 Tchaica

Hurricane Mk I / II

Spitfire (Leningrad area)

P-39 Airacobra

Yak-9

La-5F

A-20 Boston

DB-3F

IL-4

AXIS / FAF and LUFTWAFFE NEW PLANES

B-239 Brewster

Curtiss Hawk 75A

Morane Saulnier M.S. 406

Fiat G50

Bf 109 G-6

FW 190 A-5

Notice that Finnish Curtiss Hawks and Morane Saulniers are usable for ex. with the "Battle of France". New Russian planes are usable everywhere on the Russian fronts and maps. That area is full of beautiful waterways, small lakes and also a large Lake Ladoga. There are a lot of big forestes, swamps, countryside and small towns and villages around Leningrad. The map would be really beautiful with these BoS terrain tools!

S!iege of Leningrad would be great!

Lots of action from beginning to end of WW2 in land and seafront.

I´d add two more planes to Kanttori´s list:

Bristol Blenheim (The Backbone of Finnish bomber squads, also usable in beginning of war in western front Africa and far east)

Tupolev SB-2

And maybe I-153 instead of I-15

Leningrad - a favourite of mine, for sure - is not as demanding as Moscow because even though both cities had similar populations before the war (roughly 4 million), Leningrad is significantly smaller in terms of area. That being said Helsinki and other major cities in the area might be a problem.

If to make a 5 x 5 format on Leningrad...

P-39 Airacobra
Yak-9
La-5F
A-20 Boston

IL-4

B-239 Brewster
Curtiss Hawk 75A
Bf 109 G-6

Bf-110G-2

if we are not going to Africa or the Med next, then what's needed actually is a 'Channel Front' map that carries the fight over to France from 1941... lots of different mission types that can be had: Rhubarbs, Roadsteads, Rodeos, Ramrods, Channel Stops, Rovers, Rangers, Circus, Mandolins, etc, etc... you would never be bored!

I used to love those as a teenager. Clostermann's The Big Show - rather, The Big Circus, since that's the actual bloody title which could have been easily translated into English - was a great read. vp_media had a really good RAF ETO campaign following up from his Malta one for the old Il-2.

In theory if they pump another installment with a British lend-lease fighter and a Boston/Havoc, the aircraft part will be nearly done for both sides. The naval bit, voice, number of simultaneous aircraft and mainly the map would need a lot of work though.

I must say I would love to fly any/all of those aircraft in the game, especially with the FM/DM we have, and better fire simulation for those jet engines!

However, that is a massive amount of aircraft, and several of them are several times more complex than anything in the game so far, and the game can't handle a lot of aircraft at once yet.

Not that interested in jets when there are still 2000 hp prop jobs to model.

I am resigned to the fact the late eastern front is the most likely but I pine for the Med or PTO.

Well, Russian summer is hotter than South American and Mediterranean summer in my experience. +35C and no A/C in sight, it's torture.

Feathered_IV

You might want to try an Australian summer.  We cracked 46.5C a few years back.  Though thankfully the one just gone was a doddle by comparison and didn't go much over 38.

216th_Lucas_From_Hell

You get 48C in Rio de Janeiro every year, but compared to Moscow for example that's no big deal because every store, restaurant and whatnot has a very powerful A/C system and you will find somebody selling ice cold refreshments at every corner. In Moscow a lot of businesses lack any kind of ventilation system, the houses and apartments are built with winter in mind so they hold in heat really well and so on.

=362nd_FS=Hiromachi
Posted

Temperature is a relative thing however, lot depends on the climate, and specifically the air humidity. I had no problem getting used to the high temperatures in Turkey, where air during late spring and summer is dry. But same temperatures in other places with much higher humidity make it unbearable to stand outside and you quickly get tired.

One thing that Moscow or Siberia got common with New Britain or New Guinea are mosquitoes. There are millions of them, making afternoons and nights really unpleasant.

JGr2/J5_W0LF-

Being that it takes anywhere from 6 months to a year to make only one plane ready for playing in game, the easiest choice would be a Mediterranean style map with a near perfect plane set already available. What map is closest next to the plane set that we have already?
