Posted (edited)

this is a work in progress to help out a new player that asked me for some help

when its done, ill upload the Finished Tutorial

it could help all new players that dont have headtracking yet.

You will need 3 things to make your headtracking work:

-3 point IR clip (ill be showing you how to make it)

-PS3EYE camera (or other webcam with High FPS)

-OpenTrack (https://www.dropbox....Zf-I4vnp1a?dl=0) Thanks XENOS

You can buy a kit with all the hardware from here ( http://www.delanengineering.com/shop/ ) for 40 Pounds if you dont feel like making it by yourslef. Thanks FERILE

I WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO MAKE/MODIFY YOUR OWN HARDWARE IF YOU DONT WANT TO SPEND THE MOENY ON IT; IN THE FOLLOWING SECTION.

Making the -3 point IR clip:

You Will Need:

*3- IR (infra-red) 5mm LEDs (preferably wide-angle type, but ill show you how to modify regular round IR leds)

*1- 270 OHM resistor

*1-USB cable with a MALE Head (type-A) (just the most common usb cable head): you can grab this from and old USB device you dont need or is broken (long enough to go from you head to your PC

*Wires to connect the components together (flexible and small)

*Scrap plastic/metal Strong Enough to hold your LEDs together

and some tools:

*soldering iron (and soldering material)

*something to cut plastic with :D (SCISSORS)

*a Hand saw (if your modifying round IR LEDs)

*Tape/ hot glue

so here come the steps:

first, if you couldnt find Wide-angle LEDs from your local vendor (flat one) then you can buy round LEDs (IR) and cut the tip off with your handsaw like in the following image:

Then you need to wire (and solder) components to each other like in the following image: (notice the polarity of the LEDs. short pin is GND and the long pin is 5+)

EDIT: (the USB+/- tags are inverted on the image, im sorry, just take that into consideration)

(make sure your wires are long enough to fit the clip propperly)

grab some scrap plastic/metal and cut it according to the following dimensions:

Grab your USB cable and cut it so that you get a long wire with the Head on the tip (the head that goes into your PC)

Peel the usb cable's coating and youll get something like this:

attach (solder) the red wire from your USB cable to the RED wire on your clip (see the clip layout above)

attach (solder) the Black wire from your USB cable to the BLUE wire on your clip (see the clip layout above)

then hot glue or tape your circuit (leds with wires, etc) to your plastic/metal clip like in the Clip layout...

Plug into your pc and check with a Digital camera if Your LEDs are ON (IR light is invisible to human eyes)

and thats it for the clip!!! :D

THE REST OF THE TUTORIAL IS A WIP (Work In Progress)
