Stray Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 (edited) Co-op flight and membership in online squad usually gives you an opporuinity to use your skin and side number to it. Your own side number. 1946 doesn not support such option unless it's there on your squad skin itself. We don't know yet if skinning will be available in BoS, hence the question on adding side number on your aircraft through mission prep stage. Poll up. Edited September 7, 2013 by JG26_Stray 6
Bearcat Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 This is actually a good idea.. That way if the skins are done like they are in RoF you can just have a generic skin .. like say in my hypothetical case a generic 99th Redtail skin on the order of the one in my sig.. and then just add my number. It would be great if custom nose art could be allowed and much of the problem would be solved..
Stray Posted September 8, 2013 Author Posted September 8, 2013 (edited) I have added this to suggestions thread http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/767-thread-gather-your-suggestions/ Funny, how people with no squad membership and lack of understanding of this issue vote "no". My main concern here is based on the unknown, as we don't have an access to the game yet ( preordering guy here ).so we don't know if community skins will be supported in full. Even if they are, ability to add side number through game makes skin designer have less work: imagine a squad with 10 members. You have to make a generic squad skin for all, then add individual number on it ten times. With this option enbled through mission prep time, you don't have to worry about it. Carry on voting, gentlemen. And ladies, if any. Edited September 8, 2013 by JG26_Stray

But there could be a problem with correct placement of the nose art . Edited September 8, 2013 by Klaue
Lord_Haw-Haw Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 The idea is fine, especially when you belong to a squadron!
Matt Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 The devs posted multiple times that user made skins will be possible. And I don't see people voting "no", that option is not in the poll. Having said that, yes the idea is a good one. 1
Stray Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 Matt, I have some experience with 777's ROF and I know how the community skins are released. I am aware of announcement 777 will allow this option in near future. However we don't know what ner future in this case means and adding side number through mission preparation stage screen shouldn't be such a huge task, allowing deifferent nations add side number according to their own font. This poll is merely a check on squad-oriented pilots of BoS wishing for it in BoS itself. Anyway I imagine pilots not associated with squads also like to fly their aircraft as personalized to them as possible, starting with side number. However 10 votes for "no" ( they don't care ) puzzles me.
=LD=Hethwill Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 (edited) Having the available squads & available planes in squad in the selection system tied with fixed flight numbering would be no big issue in campaign/mission design right ? I like the option to fly designated element/wing and getting the indication of it IN PLACE with no need of outside mod elements. Edited September 10, 2013 by =LD=Hethwill
=FI=Genosse Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Brilliant idea. Here's my "Yeah!" for it ...
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Brilliant idea. Here's my "Yeah!" for it ... +1
Furio Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Brilliant idea. Here's my "Yeah!" for it ... It would be nice to have also a realistic numbering system. I doubt any squadron always took off with planes orderly numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etcetera. Russians polks often used high two digits numbers, and three digits were not uncommon (“100” being probably the most popular).
RAF74_Winger Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 (edited) Having generated skins for an entire squad in RoF with individual identification codes for each pilot, I'm 100% behind this. The benefits are many-fold; less disk space required for skins, less memory usage in game, reduced effort required from both skinners and the developers in creating and checking those skins. Special historical skins can also be created with markings already present - just switch off the identification decal to use it in game. W. Edited September 14, 2013 by RAF74_Winger
Sturmgeschultz Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I would like o have my number on my plane. In IL2 I flew as white 12 and Id like to keep see other numbers on other planes just to avoid the clone effect. 토키! 버보! 수연씨!
ST_ami7b5 Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Good idea - if it's not too much work at this (BoS) stage.
ImPeRaToR Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 If it wasn't (too) much work they would've just done it.Download the template when it's available, add numbers with the program of your choice, export to .dds and you got your number on the skin.

322Sqn_Dusty Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 personally i always fly with VL322 as framenumber and 3W-D or VL-D as aircraft code. So yes, sidenumbers.
senseispcc Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Like soo many did write; in a coop multy player game it is a great plus and help.
Allons Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Great for use while rolling for identifying squad mates and others doing things wrong f.i.
dkoor Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I like this, 'cos it significantly downsizes skin MB's or GB's size if you like... Also there is less hassle with this and I'm almost always for doing things simple way. One generic skin with crosses or stars then just paste the numbers that you like on them. Would also be cool to have 3 digit number allowed... maybe even for axis planes as well. And letter codes for axis (ZZ-AH etc. ) PS. make it possible in offline mode too. For both player and his squadmates. 1,2,3,4, etc. is not historical numbering, almost always was this random.
Karost Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I agree with dkoor that will look like history when many friends make video over youtube.
