Hi all...This post is to gauge interest of a US based, user run server with multiple iterations of custom missions created by myself and any other qualifying materials that the community can contribute in the same vein as the former Eagle's Nest. The group that I run with is extremely minimal and I'd like to spread the privilege, responsibility, and love around to soften the burden, if possible.

For an absolute powerhouse monstrosity of a server, the monthly bill would be around $200, and for a lesser--yet capable--machine it'd be around $130. If I could count on somewhere around a monthly minimum of seven to ten people donating around $10, that would make the server extremely feasible.

I currently don't have a personal/group webpage to utilize for this kind of post, so I'm throwing it in here...apologies for the borderline panhandling, but this is just a probe to see how interested people are. I haven't seen any prospective server announcements coming up to support the North American region...so here I am.

Please let me know and provide any feedback you have. Thanks!

Would love to see this happen, good luck Aborted.

It's a fair question and I think the answer is simple. If you stick to your principles and build what you think you would enjoy then it will succeed. You already have a good fan base and many are cryIng out for a NA server. Good luck!

I would be interested in helping out, AbortedMan. I think this a great idea.

by the way you can't receive any new PM.

I've said I'd be happy to donate $5 a month which seems realistic for me over the longer term.

But, ah ... maybe more if I had exclusive access to some sort of Klingon cloaking device or a death-ray that vapourised enemy aircraft....  just putting it out there... ;)

Would be awesome for another eaglesnest, i never had a clue server cost that much...will $130 make due or is the $200 server worth it?

Posted

Very interested. Would love to see this become a reality.

Frankly, I'd just cut you a $60 check for the year if that is acceptable. Just give me the how and where.  I actually didn't get to play on your server but have flown a bit on SYN and heard great things about yours. I also have lots of questions which I'll shoot you a PM about.

I believe the box that was provided to us that the original Eagles Nest was on was the 200 dollar server and it ran astonishingly

Negative. The box that was provided by 777 was a $130 virtual server where it's strength was the number of cores. BoS doesn't benefit from multiple cores with lower clocks. The server ran well and will get the job done...but if the support is there, a dedicated physical machine with an actual dedicated physical cpu (that inherently has a higher clock speed) will be able to push the game to its limits beyond what the previous server could.

Like LDs 120 man server, if their tests are successful.

Hi AM ! ~S~.  I enjoyed  EN Server because of  LOW pings compared to Europe. I know it costs money to run a decent Server. I would be glad to Pay for something I haven't got now.

I don't know how this is going to go down with others but I have a Suggestion.

Charge a Membeship Fee to become a Member, Say 25 Bucks to have access. You could then have a Donation System like "Other" Servers.

With a Couple hundred Members, you would get some capital to Buy Hardware you need. Also, Guys, that put up 25 bucks would be more likely to donate on a regular basis.

If you get this going, I can see a lot of Grinding in the Campaign to "Unlock". This will help the Devs too. Good Luck ~S~.

You had me at 'Hi'!

Another option, I think it would be something easier just so I don't lapse on payments, would be a year payment/subscription. I don't know if that would mess up any accounting, but when I did another community ran server for BF2 I paid by year to be a member and it was just easier.

I can't donate, but I hope you can run the server :salute:

Dont need to become a member fore donation, like it more if they setup a flightschool fore people like me who they teaching to fly whit full engine manement / find your way whit map and landscape /and some atacking move,s

love  to donat fore that kind of thing

Oh Nasty, don't jump the gun.

I'm desperate to find some IP's and start a weekly flight school with me.

Set it up first with help from some patrons.

Let people enjoy and go volunteer on their donations.

Asking how much before it is running it is very abstract.

I know the quality but I speak as a complete ignorant sod that did not have any idea what SE is about :)

but I guess most peeps can lend $5 a month.

Whatever you do AB, make the payment stuff simple, not only for us, but for you. If you dont, you'll end up chasing around money all the time. I think that would get frustrating rather quickly. Besides, we want you and Hooves skills working on the server side, implementing, upgrading, enhancing, etc.

I might suggest Paypal and some of the other easy payment transaction things.

Honestly, don't think lack of money support would be a problem. This would probably run on donation money for quite some time.

maybe, the new players get a free 2 weeks on the server, to check it out starting from the 1st time they log into the Eagles server.

Not sure how you control people coming and going though...I'm sure you'll think of something.

Thanks,

Ty

PayPal works very well. Secure and peace of mind for both buyer and seller.

In for $5. Just let me know when and where. PayPal preferred.

Aborted and I have been spit balling for a few days now about reincarnating The Eagles Nest, and with these votes we're seeing it's looking good... No promises though  :tease:

I'm in the EU timezone but I'd chip in if it means AbortedMan will resume making MP missions.   :salute:

Oh yes, that is even a better reason to donate.

How many players can the 'absolute powerhouse of a server' handle compared to the 'lesser - yet capable - machine' ?

A new Eagle's Nest? Hell yeah!

I was told to also add Afwastus's support here. He can't be arsed to log in.

Looking at SYN and ~LD~server specs I'd say theirs goes 80 ( and even more ) with comfort and only dependent on the link.

Exciting stuff.  Looking forward to supporting not only the server but the effort behind the scenes.  However flying will be a lot less due to incredibly high time constraints and issues for the next few months.
