Strange poll....I do not want/need to change my name therefore I vote no..defeating the point of those that NEED to change their name due to legitimate error in registering

 

However being able to change names arbitrarily is a bad idea

It's not a strange poll.

Several people want to change their game name because they entered an unsuitable one during installation. It's been claimed that very few people would need to change it and I was interested to assess the interest. There is no option to do so in IL2-BOS at present and a future option is not guaranteed but most if not all other games I've played do offer the option. I for one am very sick of flying online in multiplayer mode with my real first name. It's inappropriate and a rubbish callsign. I want it changed and as yet it can't be done.

 

Already 20 people say yes so for whatever reason there is an interest. Presumably those 20 want it changed because they entered something wrong or (as has been explained elsewhere) they are part of a flight group and their rank (etc) is changing over time making an earlier callsign problematic.

I'd like to have one name for each side of the battle, even thou I will not be that active on the russian side. So even if I voted that I don't want it, it would be fun to be able to swap between two.

I also used my real name, which I'm fine with, I don't play MP. The problem and reason I'd like to change is that I've got a random number attached to the end of name. Annoyingly it seems that the name chosen had to be unique across the server (all players).

 

What would perhaps be better is to have separate player names and multiplayer handles.

This issue has already been raised at the very beginning of the early access time. Many pilots (including myself) used their real names. AFAIR it was said, that this problem will be addressed "in future". I would, now after the official release, really appreciate an official statement whether we will be given the option to change our callsigns in near future.

Because somehow the first letter in my profile game name was dropped which makes it not my name anymore.

I don't mind the rewards and stuff you get attached to your pilot's profile (i've grown up) but at least i would get my own name written correctly.

And an option to do so make that work.

The dev answer is that 'maybe' they'll implement a solution, 'maybe not'.

That's no answer at all.

This poll (and it's the only one) can at least indicate that there are many users affected by the issue.

There are not 12+ threads on this issue, I've seen 3 in a year.

There have been three threads this week. A search revealed nine dedicated threads on the topic on the first page of returns alone. It will be revisited by the Devs after release and fixed if possible. It is probable it can be fixed but at their convenience.

Same here. But to call it an accident is not accurate. After first installation the game asked for my name - I entered it. It looked like a requirement for proper registration for me. There was no hint this would be my game name, and that it couldn't be changed. 

 

No multiplayer for me until rectified.

I agree with MACADEMIC. The field was quite misleading, it asked for "name", not for Pilot's Name, and so I entered my real name there.

 

Not interested at all to appear online with my real name, naturally.

 

If you send a support ticket or something won't they change it now that the game has gone live?

I gave it a 1 because I don't play it.  If they had taken the RoF b-Career and ported its functionality over "as is" and just switched out the WW1 stuff for WW2 stuff (medals, etc) I would rate BoS an 8 or 9.

 

Right now for me as an SP player it is like buying a Ferrari that I later find out has no wheels and its sitting on blocks in my driveway.  No matter how cool that Ferrari is, I can't drive it without wheels, so it does me no good.

 

There seems to be a lot of agruments for rating the BoS components individually, but I don't get a kick out of flying around in really cool planes without a purpose.  And for an SP player my only purpose is the unlocks.  And yes I've been playing it...I was just shy of reaching pilot level 4 and got into the 2nd section of the campaign when I just quit out of boredom.  And I've gone back and tried it several more times, but the "coolness" just didn't grab me any more than that Ferrari sitting on blocks in my driveway.  And yes I play IL-2 1946 and RoF, WOFF, CFS3, or CloD 3 or 4 times a week, so combat flight sims are my thing!

 

Before you crucify me, remember I said with the RoF b-Career ported over and used in BoS I would give it an 8 or 9 immediately

Because I have been waiting for a year to change my in game name from Mike Williams, which I can't find anywhere in my profile.......... I have IV/JG51_Hoss here on the fourms and and the settings page, but it does not show up in game.  So it's really not a basic as you would lead people to think.  And after paying the money to be a Premium member, something so "trivial" as being able to change my in game nom de guerre would be nice.................  if not necessary to fly with my group.

Hello,

I have purchased the game this morning and now I am stuck with a silly generic nickname.
I am really pissed off cause this is their mistake as it wasn't enough significant.

So many people are concerned.
I have decided to ask for an immediat refund, having launched the game just one time; I won't play it with such stupid nickname.
Maybe a detail for you guyz but not for me, not the first day after purchasing it!!!
I hope they gonna be honest.

I did the same but not by accident.  The game asked for my name and that is what I used.  It didn't ask for a nickname.

 

Like you, I am waiting for the promised fix, and am prevented from playing multi-player.

I don't have to be patient because of their mistake. Look at all the people who are concerned by that issue just because it wasn't enough significant. Is that so difficult to mention that the name you gonna choose will be your game nickname??

Is it now corrected? No!

Will it be possible to edit our nickname in a near future? No! I don't have to wait.

And I don't get this : "what you give is what you get".

We are customers! We have rights! The first one is to get a refund when you aren't satisfied by the products you have purchased.

If they refuse, the second right is to ruin their reputation.

The gaming company I work for deal with that on a daily basis and we DO listen to our customers, us!

Maybe some of the "no" answers are due to the fact that the poll question is poorly worded for this purpose.  Some people may well have voted "no" because they are happy with their game user name and they don't want to change it.  The poll question should have been worded "Who wants to be able to change their game user name" - probably would have gotten fewer no votes that way.

My intention was to create a poll that got a snapshot of people wanting to change their name with an emphasis on this wanting to do it immediately. I was keen to illustrate to the developers and to those people claiming this to be a non issue that there IS a groundswell of opinion.3 to 1 says there indeed is. Maybe you missunderstood me. I mean't there should be an option to change our ingame name, not thousands forum threads and polls reqeusting it. It's the standart thing to do in the normal part of the world. At least every time I make a website with user registration, I put in option to change your credentials automatically, nobody has to tell me to put it in as something extra.

 

People make mistakes, they need to be able to correct them in an easy way.

 

Not being able to change our ingame names is the same like not being able to use TIR or remap controls. It's so basic, you'd almost take it for granted. And easy to do aswell. It would take less time to code that thing into game, then writing on forum thousand times that it will be ready soon. Unless they used our names as our unique identifiers in their system. In which case, they are idiots, no other way to put it.

 

I'd unterstand them not wanting us to change our names in early access, but now it's just ridiculous. And the name in top left corner too, I know what name is, thank you, but you don't have to remind me.

It really is absurd: for my steam account I typed in something silly like "evilpedopervert" just as a placeholder forgetting that this would be permanent, no I cannot use it for fear that the FBI will come calling.
