Mesha, please let me get this straight, AFAIK BOS is the "core" game which you must buy first. BOM, BOK, BOB will be "add-ons" that you can buy if you wish.

My concern is the following: I am going to play this game strictly in Multiplayer and I expect massive campaigns in the future just like we had with SEOW (and others) wars in old IL2 via Hyperlobby. Now, will this be the case, since right now the game is just Dogfight which is boring- I want to fly in battles of squads versus squads, have campaigns with ground assault missions, supply chains etc...

Now, if I buy BOS and the campaign is on BOM map, I will not be able to fly it( the map, not the planes), since someone who has BOS and BOM I suppose they can fly BOS planes on BOM map as well?

So basically, if that is the case, everyione will be "forced" to buy all 3 or 4 maps, which amounts to 250EUR total for the game(!!!) in order to fly all maps and planes that might come up in multiplayer campaigns and that's way too expensive :(

All Multiplayer maps are available whether you have 1 or all the modules they are all standalone and or merged (except if you buy through steam, where BoS is currently treated as the 'Base game' and other modules are treated as DLC, as a consequence of how steam works, but access to all maps in MP is the same)

On multiplayer, the limiting factor is airplane availability. If mission makers put planes you own in the mission, you are good to go on any map. For this consideration, Battle of Stalingrad is probably the best, as those aircraft are the most common for all multiplayer scenarios. If you get only BOM or BOK, you maaay have trouble with strict early or late war designed missions. But by all means feel free to buy what ever battle you fancy in any order you choose. I would also recommend buying directly from the website (the developers don't have to give steam a cut that way).

As far as multiplayer experience goes, there are some campaign flavored servers that might be what you are looking for. I didn't ever play the old IL-2 so i cant say for certain how it compares to the old days, though. And although it is not implemented currently, the plan is to re-vamp the multiplayer management to be more like hyperlobby, so many of the old guard are excited for that. There is plenty of squad action too, and I suggest you poke around that forum section.

I just want to ask a few things and I don't know how this forum works.

1. If I set up the autolevel key binding, why doesn't it work?

2. My engine always died before getting into action, so I asked the veterans what should I do about it. They said I have to travel in continuous mode, but then I stall and die (even though I'm not climbing)

That's all, and it was really hard to not swear through these lines in caps lock, because I'm a bit upset

Most aircraft in the game use trimming, check the stats on the aircraft you are flying.  if you press O in game it will bring up the mission briefing, there are two tabs on the right, one is the briefing, the second is about the aircraft you are in.  You need to read this and be aware of the limits on the aircraft.

If you are flying with complex engine management on, you need to manage a lot of things like the water and oil radiators.

To start off pick one aircraft and get familiar with it, I suggest this to start off with. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gopYmJ4v_dk&list=PLnyigzFtHeNquPvKFr3mazkk_VK0JpxUw

There are some servers in easy mode, easy mode take care of radiator , rpm and mixture for you. It is really not that hard. In start fly with open radiator 100% mixture and RPM around 25 000 meaning about 80 to 85 % . you get use to it. Flying german fighters I recall this is automatic and might be a bit easier. Find out where the gauges for RPM and manifoilpressure is and try out different settings in single player. q

Not to sound critical, but I would suggest not starting with German aircraft exactly because of the automation.

If you teach yourself how to fly manually, anything with automatic controls seems 'easy', which is better than learning on automatic and then anything manual seems 'difficult'.

It's straightforward enough, the best way to approach it is to identify the engine temperature controls and focus entirely on keeping the temperature between safe values. Then start watching the RPM and manifold pressure and watch how they interact with each other, and with the temperature.

After a while you'll get a feel for the best settings for economical cruise, for takeoff and landing, and for combat.

Bear in mind though that the engine management modelling in terms of how temperature/power and damage are related is either very rudimentary or deliberately poor, so if you end up in 'emergency' power or 'take-off mode', throttle back or your engine will blow up and kill itself and you'll have to stop.

I'd advise the Il-2 '41 to start with, the controls and gauges are obvious and easy to spot, it's got relatively docile handling characteristics on the ground and in the air and it's slow enough that you can keep track of what's going on and look into the cockpit without ending up in a tree or a building.

I just started playing. And i am hawing problems orientating on airfields. I have learned to taxi on Yak-1 but i find it difficult to find the runway. Visibility if very poor. Map does not show the position of the airplane. Any tips on how to get the hang of it?

In DCS one can see a map of the airfield and starting position of the plane. And in RoF its even easier.

The best option is to open the map ("key=o") and zoom in to your airfield.

There are some 3rd party airfield maps (might be old) in the forums too.

I remember ther was a program where you could look up airfields but it has been a while since ive seen it.

Hello everyone and Merry Christmas!

Since the Holidays sales have started I will be buying both premium versions of the game.

However, I have a question which I did not find an answer for in the FAQ so I am asking for your help here.

It is concerning this, mentioned it the FAQ: 1.1 It is possible to activate only one game key and one key of each premium planes per account

Now, I own 2 PC's( desktop and laptop), my question is simple: Can I install the game on both PC's while buying a single CD key for BOS and BOM premium additions?

I should expect yes, but since I didn't find in in the FAQ I am not sure...

In fact, how many copies of the game can I install? For example, when I sell my laptop(game uninstalled of course), can I install it on  a new laptop?

Yes, you can install and play in multiple devices, but not at the same time.

You can sell the laptop worry free, the installs are not tied to a device like in other DRMs.

All you have to do is log in to your IL2 account.

Hi there, I’ve been playing (BoM) for a couple of days now (in VR) and have some questions that I haven’t been able to find through a forum search. EDIT: SOLVED

1) Why are all the skins already unlocked in campaign mode? Why does it show in my profile that I still need to unlock things (on the progress bar) if everything is already unlocked?

EDIT: I think this has something to do with a recent update? Doesn’t bother me anyways.

2) I’ve been playing on full length missions in the campaign on expert mode, using the I-16. It’s a tough plane to control and there are no trims, which I find a lot of fun. However I noticed that when I start an expert mission on short length, where the mission starts me mid-air, the plane seems to be magically trimmed (despite I-16 not having any trims) and I can fly it straight at constant speed without even touching the joystick. Even if I do touch the joystick to move, it’s way less sensitive and far easier to control, and goes back to level flight when I stop touching the stick, almost as if it’s on autopilot. What gives? It seems like cheating.

EDIT: SOLVED: This is my first flight sim so I made a rookie mistake: I thought “flaps up” meant “flaps extended” so I was flying for 2 days straight with flaps down, making the aircraft far more unstable than it should have been.

3) On intercept and and escort missions, my squadron keeps killing enemy planes and completing the mission before I even get a chance to do anything. Why are my teammates so good, why is the enemy so bad, and does it get harder as the campaign progresses? (I’ve only unlocked the first 4 airfields in the very beginning of the campaign).

EDIT: SOLVED: Now that I’m flying with flaps up, I am much faster and can actually shoot down enemies.

Hello all! <salute>

I'm a long time flight simmer, back to Air Warrior on AOL. Huge fan of IL2'46, CloD, and recently RoF once I finally got a PC that could handle it well enough. I had been waiting for Kuban but the holiday sale was too much to pass up. I was really wanting to fly the lend lease aircraft, but figured a base of Stalingrad with a P-40 tacked on would hold me over. Can't wait to get everything up and running, and hope to see you all in the skies.

Welcome to the game and welcome to the forums! I hope you'll enjoy Battle of Stalingrad as an intro. Big changes are coming with 3.001 when Kuban releases so this is going to be something special I think.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

So I made the mistake of not reading the system requirements before I purchased, I hadn't known about BoX switching to DX11 a little while back so thought my old 9800GT would be up to the task. So I was lucky enough to find a decent deal at Newegg for a GTX 750, the only problem being it only has 1GB of GDDR5. Well for $65 I figured it was worth a shot. I just got the card today, got in physically installed and got the drivers squared away. Fired up BoS and it runs just fine. I have the graphics on med-high settings and getting a solid 40 fps which is fine for me. I know that the sys reqs state a 2GB card, but I guess you can get away with 1GB is you're willing to sacrifice some pretty. The system as a whole is:

AMD FX-6100 6-core @ 3.3Ghz

8GB RAM

Gigabyte MoBo, can't remember the model at the moment tbh

GTX 750 1GB

1TB HD + 320GB HD (none are SSD but that's in the future)

Thermaltake case

I built this computer and a monstrous liquid cooled AMD 8-core rig for a family member a couple years back. They ended up selling me the one I have now at a decent price a few months ago, finally joined the modern age, lol.

Stryker welcome.

If it weren't for those greedy cryptominers graphic cards and all other components would be cheaper. Everything is overpriced today.

Try overclocking your graphic card with MSI afterburner. You can get at least 10% more out of it.

In DCS one can see a map of the airfield and starting position of the plane. And in RoF its even easier.

Open your canopy and raise your head/seat to maximum and have a good look around. You probably have a taxiway right in front of you. Taxi down it till you reach the runway. If there's no taxiway you might be on an open field base. You can see these on the map (with O) because they have hatched markings instead of marked runways. On these you can take off in any direction that is safe (wind/obstructions).

I've been sneaking around a couple of servers, and I suppose I should say hi! I've played a bunch of flight games/sims on and off, but I've gotten more of an itch now that I'm using VR.

Hello everyone, new pilot here! I've been hoping to get into Battle of Stalingrad for a little while now, but the $50 price tag is a bit too much for me at the moment. Does anyone have an idea when the next sale will be?

They periodically come near holidays or common steam sale dates. Hope you can get yourself a copy of your favorite planeset soon.

Greetings all, I came from the xbox IL-2 Sturmovik Birds of Prey..... so Sim lite. I have been playing for a couple of weeks now getting the basics down and unlearning some old habits. Love the game and my russian planes. Are there any multiplayer servers that are more new pilot friendly than others? Thanks and appreciate the community you guys and gals have created.
