Yep - I normally don’t either.

My current Ryzen 1700 has been the only exception since it was so easy.

Most modern CPU have removed the hassle from overclocking.  On AMD Ryzen CPUs it can actually be detrimental as you lose the single core boost.  You can verify this by looking at some reviews where game performance drops when the CPU is "overclocked".

As for RAM, well in some cases you can get a significant boost on Ryzen CPUs.  At the very least get a 3200 CL14 kit, but whatever you have please set XMP in BIOS at the very least.  Most motherboards on Intel or AMD will have RAM speed set to a ridiculously low default for obvious reasons.   I have seen people stick decent RAM in to their PC and not realise they need to set XMP in BIOS.  They end up with RAM running at 2133 and they wondered why the system ran like crap.

To use a topical analogy, it would be like running a 25lb boost Spitfire on 87 Octane fuel.

Oh yes, I definitely set XMP, and I've also overclocked my 1080 Ti to give me about an 8-9% performance increase. These are my latest benchmark results (for some reason, it doesn't pick up the name of my RAM which is Crucial Ballistix): https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/36370910

Another headsup for Canadians interested in zen 3.

The 5800x is in stock at newegg canada. Price $779 Canadian.

I'd like to have one, but I can't imagine the increase in performance over my 3700X warrants the cash. Doesn't even come with a cooler.  Now a 5950X is another matter, but I can't really afford it so that's that. Maybe in the spring.

Just checked and the 3700X is $40 more than I paid for it last spring.

Yeah. It's a crazy mess with the hardware this season. Everything new is out of stock and even older stuf is more expensive.

But the 5800x is in stock in multiple places, because is too expensive for an eight core.

But funy enough, i watched a bit some of those stock updates videos and they show the latest "drops". For some messed up reason AMD is delivering hundreds of 5800x and only dozens of the other processors. :scratch_one-s_head:

they really want you to buy the most overpriced cpu.

Everyone dropped the ball this season.

I'm still waiting. Based on the small number of 5950x chips dropped by AMD every day, i don't think i'll be able to get one this year.

:(

I think there's no question that collusion and corruption is involved at some level of the shortages. There's millions and millions of dollars of secret profit being disappeared into the ether in all of this, at a multi-national level no less, and it goes without saying that when that much cash is involved, there is likely to be an organized element to it.

That said...

I hope we both get a 5950X come springtime. :good:

Thankfully the Ryzen 5000 CPUs are becoming available at MSRP, so you should not have to resort to paying rip-off prices.  Here in the UK it is possible to get 5800X at MSRP and the 5600X is showing in stock every few days at MSRP.

Newegg is Chinese-owned ripoff store. I bought this CPU for $629.99 at canadacomputers.com, it is still available at that price.

That's not Newegg's price, that's one of the third party retailers selling through them, AmberCNE. Newegg itself doesn't look to have any stock.

I've seen yesterday the 5950x at amazon.de at MSRP, but they don't ship to Canada.

Many companies have them, but only as part of bundles, or built computers, so they can move parts they can't sell.

The world is full of a$$holes.

Overclockers.UK has 10 ryzen  55600x in stock. I don't know if the price is ok for that chip, but just heads-up, for whoever is looking for one in that area.

They also have ten Ryzen 9 5950x chips. Again, I don't know if those are good prices for UK.

HI,

after a long time I finally manage to buy a new rig (for now with my older GPU Nvidia 980).

AMD Ryzen 5600x

DD4 3600 CL17

M2 SSD

ASUS B550 Plus TUF Motherboard

Started career (with medium settings and 1920x1080 - I have old GPU 980) set frontline activity to moderate (previously scattered density above frontline was unplayable).

Pff I though with the new CPU, high single core speed I can play without problem a what a surprize - above the frontline game is still slow with 60 FPS.

So even with the new CPU with much higher single core speed Im still struggling in the career mode. Yesterday I will try scattered activity but im seriously very dissapointed in IL2 graphic engine.

Another thing, I have now new monitor - IPS panel with 6ms response rate and I have extreme ghosting on the clouds, land and gun sight reticle. Even with slow movement with the mouse or trackir. (with trackir its much more noticeable).

Its the only game i have noticed ghosting. Is it normal?

Perhaps the 980 is limiting your 60 fps, but in fullHD it should be OK.

You can try to run the CPU test of the benchmark, just to be sure your 5600X is performing as your peers.

5600x is performing well and 60 FPS are because im limiting them in settings, its the game engine which cant handle some planes and ground units even with modern CPUs.

Just tested scattered density and there are slowdowns as well, of course its better then on Intel i5 4760k which I had before.

On 4670k it was unplayable now with Ryzen its only tragic. I wonder how you guys can play with those slowdowns?

You said Medium settings and career mode in 1920x1080 monitor.

Could you be more precise? (screenshoot of game settings, career map, plane, etc). It is really strange what you say.

scattered enemy activity over the frontline.

Game is fluid, but near the frontline with enemy planes and ground units there is a noticeable slowdown,

CPU cant handle approx 20 planes, AA and ground units.

Its much better then with the older CPU, but its still very noticeable , its hard to aim and shoot.

I think it's your graphics card. you are using 4k textures, SSAO, mirrors , high reflections. Those are taxing on the graphics card.

Run the CPU test benchmark proposed by chiliwili, with the exact settings in his instruction, to find out of it's your CPU,GPU or other things messing with your gaming experience. I think it's the GPU.

Can play no issues with dense settings and even cranking up settings in PWCG campaign. Already tested when I got this CPU, I think it was one of the first here. Tested the slowdown mission tests and had no problems with lots of planes (I think it was somewhere here).

@Voidhunger you have something wrong or your GPU is just not enough.

OK thanks, lets wait for the new cards in february.

What GPU do you have?

I don't think it's the GPU tbh, I am mounting a 1080.

Have you checked your boost clock? is your temp OK?

I dont want to install those CPU programs anymore. CPU is running fine.

your GPU is way faster

https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-980-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1080/2576vs3603

Im begining to think that what i find odd, majority of people find ok.

Even if I set all graphic details to minimum there are still slowdowns.

You can clearly see that with time acceleration. When you are close to action zone, game will return to actual time or max 2x acceleration.

After that, game is slow with little stuttering mainly from cockpit view.

When you leave the action zone game speed returns to normal.

Not so bad like in old CPU.  FPS is always 60.

Typical mission on Rheinland map is 12x Dora vs 12x Tempest and after some time again approx 6xTempest.

Together with some ground units my system still cant handle it.

In QMB I can play with everything maxed out with 16 planes(MAX in QMB)

As I said, I am not having problems and I am finding it OK. I have been monitoring my CPU as it is new harwdare and of course, not have the same issue as you.

GPU is not important as you are able to keep 60 fps.

I just played a career mission with Hurricane. At least 40 planes. Intercepted a flight of more than 12x Stukas escorted by 109s and more Emils doing groundpounding while anoter squad of Yaks went South. We were a flight of 9 Hurricanes.
No issues and higher temps, the CPU was working harder so the SIM was using more CPU.

Hello fellow pilots, been following this topic for a while, since I'm about to do some upgrades to my current desktop:
I5 4690k @ 4.3
ASRock z97 extreme 3
DDR3 8gb
RTX 2070 Super OC Edition

I can play really well at 1080p, but since I've done the change to VR (Oculus Rift S), had to really lower the settings and on some heavy scenarios and MP with lot of players I have some stutters and frame drops and its really hard to go over 40fps.
Since I'm gonna have to change MoBo, CPU and RAM, I'm kind leaning towards the new AMD 5600X but since some people say that the performance for AMD in VR its not as good as Intel I'm also putting on the line the I7 10700k since where I live the prices are almost identical, I would put the 5800x on the list but there is a huge difference in price and don't know how much

more performance would I be able to get out of it compared to the 5600x.

Best Regards "S"

Check out the thread below and the results spreadsheet. The 5600x seems to be the best choice. Beating all Intels and is equal or just a few FPS behind the more expensive AMD Zen 3 chips.

Good luck finding a Zen 3 CPU.

I've been looking for one very hard for a while now and could never find one here in Canada.

Except 5800x, none of our big online retailers had them in stock for weeks. If the availability is as bad as it is now, I may just forget about it. Only scalpers have stock.

You can check this post: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/67289-best-pc-for-il-2-vr/

For the Rift-S the Tier1 PC with a 1080, 1080Ti or 2080 it would be more than enough.

You can find stocks of 5600X in europe looking at this page:

Just tested it thorougly today.

I have best performance with low details and everything turned off.

Only target FPS set to 60.

Game looks awful but performance is ok-ish (but not fluid). small slowdowns, stuttering

once I set details to balanced + low shadow and SSAO (Tank interior looks bad without it) there are visible big slowdowns over target area with multiple planes.

Much worse through the cockpit then outside.

In both options GPU is running at 50%,  vRAM 2000-2200 and CPU average usage is 26%.

FPS is constant 60.

If you want Intel, await more some months, the 11 Core generation is coming, accord leaked benchmarks not better than Ryzen 5 , but anyway new, e.g. support for PCI 4.0.

So, any feels about the CPU? 🤔

Zen 3 is very fast, in general.

In this game, in Syn_Vander's benchmark, I got a massive 40 fps jump, going from 3950x to 5950x.

Look at the results in this game:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gJmnz_nVxI6_dG_UYNCCpZVK2-f8NBy-y1gia77Hu_k/htmlview

We don't know yet exactly how the new Intel Chips are in this game, but from the rest of the CPU's out there Zen 3 are at the very top.

By direct and not as everyone from the store! Is the AMD store a direct buy = No! Because you or some few have a problem doesn't mean all have the same problem. Had two 5950x here for $700 each but sold them for fun for twice even for thrice because I don't have the time for playing games at the moment.
