Game version 4.501 discussion: New visibility, "Wind of Fury", 4K for P-39 and Bf-109-G6, Tanks final features

Recommended Posts

I`m very impressed with this update! Great job DEVS! Gameplay is much more enjoyable and tactical now. Both my wingmen were able to spot everything with me and, sometimes, even before I did. AMAZING and very well done! This might just be the best DEV team in a game yet. Just the fact that you guys actually engaged with the community to gather opinion and improve the game gives you guys my utmost respect! A+

I don't, and never have, given a flying fart about the spotting, but this update with the configurable haze..........is more gorgeous than ever. . . . . which was always gorgeous to begin with.

Hats off to our Developer friends.

Oner thing I've noticed though is me in one ME262 QMB against 8 x B-25s. The sound from the B-25s when near got supper choppy.

Gentlemen,

👍

Did about 2hrs off-line in quick mission builder tinkering with graphic settings and weather effects and another 3.5 hours flying online in the Combat Box server... HOMERUN!!

From my perspective (running a high resolution monitor) you just made the simulation much more realistic and enjoyable to play. I can now use realistic period correct tactics, spotting and tracking contacts from above much better now.

The online experience was fantastic, working together several guys on comms all night and we all had a clearer picture of what was going on... from escorting bombers while maintaining the tactical altitude advantage (still being able to see them), to incredible battles bringing the vertical dimension into the dogfight.

It was like finally taking the blindfold off... with that said; by no means is it 'easy' to spot... in fact I wouldn't mind even a tiny bit more clarity to bring it more true to life at least with my setup.

Again, you made the simulation more realistic and flat-out better... WELL DONE!

Thank you,

Mad-Moses

just flew on combat box with the new patch. Great job with the new visibility! Very nice improvement

Believe it or not I got bounced from low 6 *more* with the new vis;  could just be a small sample size and coincidence but I think you are able to spot prey at longer distances and creep up on them more effectively..

Did some Il-2 flights yesterday and they were great fun - it was possible to observe enemy flights before going on the attack run and staying hidden above dark/shadowed terrain in one flight. In another flight my Escort stayed with me the whole flight and in a third flight I was able to spot 2 109s engaging me before they were shooting and could do some defensive manouvering.

Even more impressed than before. 👍

I protested a lot for Visibility Problem and now I wish to thanks Developers for their efforts.
Great improvement both in long range and close range spotting and keeping contact in sight.
Sim appears more realistic and enjoyable at the same time.

Damned Good job, Devs!

Also for Ground Contact and Scenario there is a Great Improvement

It seems really another Sim...
Congratulation Again

Anyone reported the problem that everything looks more visible and okay to spot when pilot is not zooming in, but planes getting smaller even than normal view when in zoom mode? I find it very confusing. I was playing in VR mode.

This is as intended. It helps planes stay visible when zoomed out by making them a little larger, but prevents them being too large when zoomed in.

Certainly hope not, Nvidia's proprietary garbage that's all marketing and no substance can die in a hole.

Whats your experience with that nVidia method of increasing FPS and image of quality at once? Can you tell us more?

I am VERY impressed with the new spotting/tracking/visibility changes. It makes team-flying much more do-able, and getting into big swirling dogfights much more likely. I'm not sure if it was the ease of flying loose formations, the ease of spotting/identifying distant targets, or the ease of tracking/reacquiring targets mid-fight, but I had an absolute blast on the Thursday Night Fly-in last night. About halfway through the night, I realized something had fundamentally changed. I felt like a kid in a WWI theme park, riding the roller coaster and having so much fun that as soon as the ride comes to a stop I immediately hop off and sprint back to the start of the ride. It was a positively electrifying experience. I'm pulling together a short video right now to show just how much I enjoy Flying Circus.

Anyone also really enjoying the extra 8X MSAA?

Looks great and still runs full 60fps V-sync on my GTX1660, i3 6100.

I'm definitely enjoying it, the 8x MSAA has very fine detailing which makes it a pleasure when zooming in or looking at complex objects... at least from what I can see on a 4k TV.

On combat box server last night had a huge blast with it (along with the spotting improvements which are quite superb), it certainly adds to more joined up flying and coordination of pilots across the map as everyone can see eachother easily and act accordingly.

To put this in context (i'll grab the screenshot after work), I could see two B-25 bomber formations at 5km altitude above me from over 20 km away and see every individual fighter trailing, climbing and darting across them. It was fairly astoundingly to watch from a bomber just doing a low level flight well away from the action up there.

Running on quite high settings with an RTX 2080 Super, but... frankly after an hour and a half my graphics card was hotter than the engine of my aircraft so was considering getting some eggs and bacon on it and preparing a meal lol. That was with the side panel detached, and not great airflow round it but still.

When they say it puts a strain on graphics card - do be careful running very high settings on it for a while!

Estoy seguro de que el próximo G-effects será otra gran melodía.

En este diario de desarrollador, extraño algunos comentarios sobre problemas con munición y DM que están presentes en el juego desde hace tiempo.

Gracias por todo tu trabajo

Thanks for the update!

Overall not impressed... it's better than it was before (no doubt about it) but, by all means, it's not great on my end. Now I can spot targets longer (on some situations) when on the wider FOV but as soon as I move to the narrow FOV (max zoom) the contacts become invisible ?!?!?!

When contrasting against the terrain and at close distances, (< 1 Km), aircraft are being rendering too sharp, therefore looking "a bit off". Unfortunately, at medium distances (1Km to 3 Km), they are still too blurry and dim (although slightly better than before) to the point that they often become invisible unless they are reflecting light.

Being that said my only intention is to provide my personal feedback/input and experience regarding the new visibility and nothing else... I am running the game @4K.

~S~

PS: Any tips or suggestions in terms of tuning the game and/or Nvidia settings would be highly appreciated.

Are there any improvements for the A.I. that affect the singleplayer content?

AI improvements
12. AI wingmen keep the optimal climb speed when the wing leader is far and higher;
13. AI aircraft now use combat and emergency engine modes for a fastest possible climb when following the terrain;
14. AI fighters now more actively attack maneuvering targets at lower speeds;

And number 14 seems to have resulted in much more aggressive AI 109s when i dipped into QMB last night.

Overall a great update.

The sim is looking great. Is it placebo or has some more work been done on the visuals/ deferred shading implementation? Reflections on cockpit gauges seem to look better (more visible and "glass-like"), and also a more 'metallic' look to cockpit panels (eg il-2) (?)

I also noticed improved and smoother performance. Though could be down to an nVidia driver update yesterday too.

Just had a blast yesterday, my whole squadron is really impressed with the new spotting, the improvement has been huge!. It's a new whole experience.

Thank you team!

If you guys want to support the theam, there is this nice upcoming expansion called Battle of Normandy in the store, just sayin :)

VR user and post patch... Wow.  I've been catapulted into a sky containing lots of planes! From blissful ignorance to surrounded with scary contacts haha.

One minor issue. Update seems to have created a strobing effect on clouds and sea surface.  I've increased cloud quality setting which seems to have improved a little, unsure how much it will hit my FPS though. Anyone else experience this?

Hi, just delete the files with the msnbin extension and reopen the mission file and resave.

Doesn't work for me.  I still get an error message when loading  in the ME.   Have been building a campaign on the Arras map.  There's got to be an easy fix.   Any ideas?

Absolutely. Even at 4x it looks great. Waiting on those new fangled 3080s to max everything out.

I’ve got to add my thanks to the developers for this update. I’ll echo the comment about how much the haze has enhanced the beauty of the game. Last night I flew several quick  missions without icons on. I still would lose sight of my contacts at times but that was on my end, not the sim. Huge improvement IMO. I’m more eager now than ever for the Mosquito to arrive. Being able to see fighters at reasonable distances will surely make it easier to survive missions in that beautiful A/C.

AH! I had written off IL2 because spotting made the game absolutely unplayable. I gave it a good go but never found out how to make it OK for my lousy screen and computer. The game was just too frustrating for me and I stopped after 40h of dying for the wrong reasons, seeing planes from afar but then losing sight constantly. Bad spotting in e.g. DCS is acceptable because BVR is enabled through radars and other tools for the pilot, but in IL2 it is unforgivable.

I now have very high hopes and am reinstalling the game.

For anyone sweating bullets about the thought of resaving all of their custom missions individually: unless you're command-line savvy, I recommend downloading a search utility called Everything for Windows, it's way faster than the built-in search. That'll help you to quickly locate all obsolete .msnbin files in the Campaign and Missions folders and delete them. Then open the mission editor to any mission file, select Tools -> Resave All Missions in Folder. Do that for both the Campaigns and Missions folders -- it'll take a while, but at least you can just leave it running in the background.

"Everything" is a lifesaver for search on WIndows. Thank god I bumped into it several years ago. Highly recommended.

FWIW, I too had a long download time - as well as a surprisingly long install on otherwise blazing fast internet service.  Might have taken 15-20min all told (gasp!).  Not all broke up about it, just letting folks know.  I don't use Steam and all my content is direct from 1C.  Initial flights last night were pretty good and look forward to exploring the new spotting dynamics in more detail and hearing about folks' opinions.  Haven't checked yet, but also love the idea of mouseover check for MP server settings - that's huge!  Looking forward to seeing what the other updates are that almost made this release.  Thanks for all your hard work to improve the sim that is our passion.  Please hurry the Hurri, as well as the rest of BoN content.  What is latest/greatest on the map?

Question.

Does this new enhanced spotting mean, that the option as a bomber or ground attacker to sneak past enemy fighters, will be nearly impossible?

Lone bombers sneaking through to target areas doesn't exactly sound all like a realistic experience to me anyways.   There are reasons they flew in large numbers with escorts.  We aren't flying F-117 Nighthawks.
