Damage model still needs serious attention

Watching guys drop out last night because of the damaged DM was heart breaking.

I was going to try to come in last night, but I had a violin lesson that I couldn't reschedule.

What can I say, you guys were like hornets over there. Guess that's what happens when you cross the lines. 1 death was a collision, other one was my unreal engine 4 did an up date right when I was bombing and pushed my game to desk top. Bad timing.  3 was loss of my controls. We just won't give up giving you guys kills.

I had control loss twice where I had to bail for my only bailouts of the month and actually landed from 2.5k with a fully jammed rudder. Cactus pilot killed me in the middle of a snap roll so maybe damaged controls are a plus.

Why don't you ask the 3rdPG to escort you ?   🤣

There's nothing really funny in making jokes about his death.

Don't worry.  You'll get over it.

He climbed into the cockpit knowing full well the danger in doing so with these machines; but his love and passion for the hobby ran so deep that he did it anyways.  In the end it cost him his life.

There are far more trivial and tragic ways to die.  The man is a legend, and a little black humor on a videogame forum isn't going to diminish that.

I suspect, one way or another, he doesn’t really care overly much, or at least is past caring.

Black humour is a perfectly acceptable part of human nature, or at least, being human nature, should be.  If some members “ape” the black humour of service life, possibly having been, or are, in the services, it shouldn’t be overly surprising when you consider the games we are partaking in, you might say “It goes with the territory”.  Don’t fain indignation on the part of people you have possibly never met or been on friendly terms with.

I highly recommend this thread for discussion of rotary flight characteristics...

I have done extensive testing in the Dr1, and given Javier's death, I might go so far as to say I have done more testing than anyone else in the world alive today.  Happy to answer any questions you may have about flying with a huge gyroscope attached to the front of your plane.

Lots of guys get butthurt and leave.  It’s pretty common in combat flight simming.

Lol if you think getting butthurt is common in flight simming you haven't been around too many other online games.

The fact that it's even more common in other games does not change the fact that it's still common here.

I get what you're saying, let's just say coming from pretty much any online game to here is like entering a paradise of harmony.

It wasn't feigned at all. Maybe it's because I've seen people die horrible deaths right before my eyes, but whatever the case it's not something I'm going to get over.

You guys seriously decided to say stuff like this to a man who has stated on multiple occasions that he’s a combat veteran? And even if you didn’t know that, you didn’t once stop to think that maybe his life experiences were different to yours?

Sometimes gallows humor is what helps combat veterans process unique and life changing experiences.

...but this isn't combat and even if I didn't know Mr. Arango personally, I feel it's a bit dickish to poke fun of his death.

And I can be a huge dick.

What were we talking about? Damage model? Hanriots?

Ahh, bugger it as my Austrian friend says.

It's quite odd to me, seeing a person compare their very individual and personal experiences- to an event and person to whom they weren't involved with, and probably only read about, and pretend that it somehow effected them as deeply as the former.

If you were a close friend of Mr. Arango or witnessed the events of his death, I apologise; but for most of us I don't think that's the case.

Of course, people are weird and broken, and can feel certain things much deeper than they really probably should.   Lots of people cried when Robin Williams died- so if you guys were some of those, you have my conditional apology.

And @[Pb]Cybermat47, "Don't worry.  You'll get over it." Was in reference to what must be the intense trauma of seeing a dickish joke on a videogame forum.  Not in reference to any life changing experiences he has lived through.  So in the case of the former, yes- he will get over it; and so will you.

Well said SLM. Anyway, your initial jibe was really at BSR and his (allegedly) amazing disco abilities. It's time to move on and get back to the DM discussion where we can really slag each other off.

I've been away for about a month - has anything at all changed with the damage model, or is it still "1 random bullet from across the map = your elevator is gone LUL"

About jammed control surfaces, Captain Wilson's account of being shot down by Boelcke: "He shot through all my control cablez except two - and these were jammed. [...] I pulled the controls back and forth, and somehow, at the last moment obtained enough control to prevent a crash."

Did this happen every time he went up?

No, but apparently every time he went down. ;)

We know his story because 1) he recovered somecontrol and 2) he escaped the fire resulting from the crash. If not, he'd been an ooc.

Apparently he did every time he went down. So when you coming on line so we can irritate you every time you come up. Won't be hard, 1 or 2 burst and you go down like Captain Wilson. Come on SLM, I'd love to pluck your wings off.

Same controls crap, plus the armour-plated Fokker's and Pfalz's

I was flying FC with friends off and on, but they got tired of the lack of content and have moved over.   Honestly it's a lot more fun over on the WW2 side these days anyways.

Which is kind of the point! If you add the DM controls issue and the huge, unfathomable difference in damage resistance between planes, it feels like FC is getting shafted.

I fly both sides. It's not that bad. Icould do with some changes, but it's not spoiling my fun. Had very interesting sorties, flying both SE5 and Bristol, for instance.

Not that it's what you'll be after, but Zoo Wings rarely shows pilots on the server list, when in fact there are.

A far more important niggle than any DM considerations.

Yeah, every week, and against good pilots too.

Very familiar with the differing experiences

Against your own squad or against good pilots who usually fly German?

When do you fly MP BsR? I’ve never seen you on any FC server since the sim launched and can’t see a pilot record for you on the J5 parser. Too busy fighting text wars in forums? 😛

If you’d like some firsthand MP action so you can debate from a place of experience I’ll happily wing up in either a Dr1 or SE.

In terms of good opponents I regularly see the 1PL Camel boys and Drookasi’s Dviif wing. Both very good indeed. If you fought them regularly in MP you’d likely agree.

I’m usually on Combat Box flying WW2 planes.  That’s why I’m not “debating” anyone about the current WW1 MP situation.  But I’ll just quote someone who does currently fly both sides.

Mr Bidu is fantastic with the Dr1 which is tanked now. Ask the same of someone who flies both sides and takes the Dva (me) and you’ll have a different perspective. Bidu doesn’t speak for all MP players who fly both sides; you speak for neither.

The offer is still there if you’d like to wing up in a CL2 or Dva on Flugpark

Ok, what’s your perspective on the Dva?  In RoF it’s too slow to fight Spads and can’t turn well enough to fight Camels.
