ATI videocard users - please respond

Recommended Posts

Just to add ,the game now looks fantastic.

As an example here is a external view with my settings above.

As you can see no black outlines are apparent......its only from cockpit view where you can see a faint black outline.

This is a huge improvement and I can certainly live with it, obviously if no outline was present that would be perfect,

but I am at least now able to enjoy the game in all its glory ....thankfully!

If you're ATI user - please say:

1. Your videocard name,

2. You Driver version

3. Have you this weird graphics issue with opened canopy if you set Anti-Aliasing to 0 and Canopy Reflections Off?

2: 20.2.2

3: No not using 4006.e

Seems all issues fixed for me.

I do see some jaged edges above the nose and outlines around the wings even using SMAAx4 and Ultra. other than that looks great.

These are the issues I mean, nothing big just think they should be fixed with AA on the nose noth sure about the wings.

Turning off AA actually makes the issue on the nose go away, weird.

Here is the wing.

I will experiment further over the next few days to narrow down which setting eliminated the scenery showing through.

Sorry for the late reply SirFlappy, and anyone else still having these issues. This may help?

I was able to reproduce and confirm your previous graphic rendering issues. Here is what was discovered this end, not changing any hardware:

Your running with VSync which opens/unlocks the option to alter the Dynamic resolution factor within the games graphic settings.

Tested > MSAA within the games Graphic settings: If the Dynamic resolution factor is set below 0.9, there are "graphical rendering issues", as in your earlier screen shots.

With the Dynamic resolution factor set to Full or 0.9, all appeared much better in MSAA. (FXAA was tested as well and appeared okay at the lower settings when compared to MSAA).

*Note: If you hover the mouse over the Dynamic resolution setting, (within the games Graphic settings), it will inform that the Dynamic resolution allows the game to reduce rendering quality on the fly to maintain the the target FPS.

The fine black line seen around the wings for example, don't seem as noticeable when FXAA was used, at least from what I could see. (monitor was used, I don't own a modern Tv, just a old one :) )

I'm glad your much happier with your settings now.

Hope you don't mind or take this the wrong way by suggesting: Best load all defaults if problems occur. If all is well, and wanting to alter anything, do it one by one, as this can highlight the mistakes. BTW thanks for sharing your settings, it made this exercise much easier using a little game called, spot the difference with the default settings. :)

We figured it out in the end (last few posts of mine above).

As I may have said above I have never been a fan of FXAA,it just looks a bit blurry & less sharp than MSAA on my big 32"tv (not this games fault) ,but your right in the game it does eliminate the black outline.

However I am happy to stick to 4x msaa for now,I can put up with the outline (as its hardly noticable).

Thanks for your input though......I am just content to play the game now and stop fiddling with the PC.

Never be afraid to suggest something that might help ( you make a good point about the settings solving method) ,if it was not for 56 RAF Stickz posting his settings up ,I would have had a headache longer than I did.

     Cheers!:)

Just for something to do, I created my own ANTI OUTLINE modified Spitfire IX ( I like this aircraft!)

  The Spit. IX AO lol!

Its not historical of course ( They are my initials  "JJ ", I am not Sir Flappy on the electoral register would you believe!!), but it does totally disguise the outline NICE!

SirFlappy, there one more thing I want to ask you, your answer may be helpfull in possible fixing.

Try to turn off full screen mode in game and set resolution a bit lower, than resolution of windows desktop. Will bug be still there?

Hope this helps fix the reported Black outlines sighted as requested ☝️

No more Black Outlines sighted 4X MSAA (tested with VSync also) 👍

Pic  just below 👇shows the monitor's Native and selected resolution.

Game settings below 👇 seem to remove the black outlines on reported wing edges and noses. 4X MSAA

The games Screen is smaller yes 👎

Interesting findings- Spit IX Default skin/Kuban summer map

The settings I was using are below ( 4th pic down..my desktop resolution),

with these I get a faint black outline as you are aware (1st..top.. pic).

I did as you said and lowered the resolution one step down to 1680x1050 and voila no outline around nose or wings. (2nd/3rd pic)

ADDON INFO-

Did a further test with the same reduced resolution settings BUT

PUT BACK DRF SETTING TO MY ORIGINAL PRE-UPDATE POSITION ....0.6

and panning around with my Trackir over the town and other scenery NOTHING glitched through the wings or cockpit as before with this setting.

Pics below (THESE ARE ALL WITH DRF AT 0.6)

Sorry for caps..but wanted to highlight the important change of setting!

Ok, that is great. We have found that this is an another bug in ATI drivers, but fortunally there is a side-way around it. We have done a fix and now it comes to beta.

If you have ability - please join Beta for a couple days to test this change - it would be helpfull. Rapidus will contact you.

Just did a bit of longer flying with the DRF set to 0.6, (reduced res)

and I found that NO scenery showed through ,but I did notice an OUTLINE (Pics below).

 - I retested with DRF set to FULL and NO outline showed up and of course no scenery.

These test were longer than the original quick tests above!

OK I will see about the Beta, although I am rather busy ,but I will try to help if I can.

I will look back here later tonight ...if I have not heard anything I wont be able to check any messages till after 3.30pm  on Tuesday.

I only have a crap old mobile phone (no internet) so will have to check on my PC only at home......sorry about that, even illegals in dinghies at Dover have better phones than me Lol!

Don't know if you still require this info but here you go!

1. Your videocard name: Gigabyte Radeon RX 590

2. You Driver version: WHQL 20.2.2

3. Have you this weird graphics issue with opened canopy if you set Anti-Aliasing to 0 and Canopy Reflections Off? No Mine looks just fine

I only flew Sunday for 30 minutes but everything looked fine with FXAA turned on Anti-lias at 2 and Cockpit Reflections to Normal.

Thanks for the fix!

@Han thank you for the last update and your effort with the AMD Issues :)

Sadly the exterior pixels still appear when using MSAA. Like in this report from LLv34_Flanker: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/61739-ati-radeon-troubles-after-4006-update/?do=findComment&comment=953716

I also updated to driver version 20.5.1 and use the same RX 5700 XT card.

Same here, 5700XT on 20.5.1.  The black outlining has gone with the latest release, but the pixelated reflection remains.

Thanks, too, for all this work to solve these issues!  I truly appreciate it.

Sorry to hear you and some others are still having a few issues ,for me with my RX480 (same driver as you)  I dont appear to have any.

After all the problems with the last update (4.006) ,this lastest one (4.007) seems to have resolved them.

You could try my graphics settings to see if that helps...or it maybe is an issue with your particular card.

It would be interesting to see if other AMD users with different cards are getting your bug?

S!

With 4.007 the black outlines are there in cockpit view, not in etxernal view. Flickering squares on plane reflections are only visible on MSAA.

MSAA also has a huge impact on framerate in class of 50-60fps over FXAA, while using otherwise identical graphics settings. I posted my settings in Hardware section under AMD settings thread for anyone interested. My system is as in signature. Drivers 20.5.1

Interesting!  So it seems the outlines are gone for some and still present for others, and likewise MSAA has a big FPS hit for some and not for others.  Same card, same driver version.  So it's looking increasingly like the issue may lie elsewhere?

Screens attached, cockpit view from yesterday showing the absence of the outline, and my current graphics settings (apologies for potato quality).  Nothing enforced via Radeon software, aside from Freesync ON to the monitor.

Hope this information is useful!

I can only agree to Drago that it is strange how different the experiences are. Does some of you get weird blurry textures after loading into a new mission? Since today this problem started for me. I have no idea what causes this and if it's AMD related. I have more detailed description here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/62512-blurry-textures-with-version-4007/

Maybe you guys have an idea.

Sorry to say I haven't seen that problem.  I replied to your thread with more, hopefully it can help to get to the bottom of that!

Can I ask a question?
Is workaround used conditionally dependent on the version of the drivers? (I assume code running with newer drivers which would have the bug fixed)
