I have a few words about the last update. I flew with the new planes, the old ones, on the old maps, and on the brand new one. 
I like the new planes, the physiology. With that implemented, the game became really spicy. I really like it. 
Can't state the same about the spotting. Or maybe it's not easy to express myself with a yes, or no. 
I like how the spotting distance became longer, but the ID distance should be shorter. With Alternative visibility, it's almost impossible to play with bombers. 
We talk to people, we made a poll:
Please, do what you can, thats all I ask.

I don't get it. Why am I being asked to read this? Looked at the poll and it's almost exactly 50/50 split. Spotting seems fine to me even in VR. So... yeah.

I have to agree with Goffik. In VR (HP Reverb, the alternative spotting works well. I can dotspot at a range where some planning is possible before an encounter, and its not possible to ID before you get a lot closer.

And herein lies the problem, VR odyssey + here. Spotting is completely messed up in alternate, I can see almost everyone for 50km and is game ruining for me based on the way it has changed combat into a giant tactless fur-ball. Not saying it’s the same for you guys, but enough people are starting to notice the effect on gameplay and it’s diversion from a historical ww2 tactical simulation experience. Further it has split the community 50/50.

SP, yes, MP it's Server Side.

 

The Effect is that upon zooming in with High Res (higher than 1080p) Monitors Targets disappear, on the Ground and in the Air. For some People in my Squad Aircraft getting closer become completely invisible.

If I try to Zoom in with my rather puny 17" Monitor on some things, they disappear as I zoom in, so to see I have to Zoom out, which starts hurting your Eyes after 30 Min.

 

It's the Bugs with the System that are more annoying than the actual System.

From a private talk. 

"The Flying Circus aircraft servers that are using it make the aircraft look like the Goodyear blimp". 

 

I noticed that it is extremly easy to spot and id aircraft far-far away, including bombers. Which making bombing missions impossible on MP servers. 

Also when the aircraft gets close it is now very difficult to spot them, even making formation flying odly difficult. 

 

That the ground targets disappear when you zoom in, also kills the joy of ground attacking. And yes the pilots did use binoculars to search for the targets.

Only thing this tells me is that half of the KOTA community wants to play Air Quake. 

 

Combat Box and WoL have expert, if you keep alternative on KOTA, there is place for expert preferring people to go.

Either way the new "option" is one I don't use offline, nor will fly on a server with it enabled.

It's not a problem of alternate visibility, it's the way zoom view is implemented. When using 3dmigoto zoom, targets never disappear.

Exactly, in zoom out view I see dots clearly. Than if I zoom IN I can barely see a plane. Camon....

I'm a fan of the new spotting system

 

it emulates the feel of real life spotting to the best of current techs capability but with a small caveat.

 

our eyes don't "zoom" but I see no complaints about that ;)

In RL If I see something at 40km..it becomes bigger at 10km and I can see it bigger and I can see it better. In game its opposite with new spotting system.

only if you use alternate on

 

on alternate off all works ok with no magnification bugs, if you know where airplane is youll see it from 20-30km depending on conditions and he gets gradualy bigger as you get closer to him.

 

on alternate on you have problems with contacts far from 10km being magnified and easy visable abow 50+km, and then when they enter around 10km from you they start to gradualy get smaller and thats why that version is optional, and was fixed in 3.201b hotfix (alternat off now), and is added in game back as option with 3.201c as some players asked for it.

 

All work as intended in alternate off, that is option that devs call realistic one and bug free as it is.

Hmmmm.. I kinda wish there was a middle ground between the two spotting options.

 

I also find it difficult to believe that zoom should be allowed in expert mode though. If you’re going to argue realism that’s fine, but go the whole way.

 

That being said? KOTA isn’t itching to spend money on an extra server, at this point I’d suggest waiting out the results of the poll and go with the community.

In Rift S planes 5 k under looks like white butterflies. Or huge sunderlands. I do not mind it in FC other than it looks ridiculous in my setup.
but for me flying things with bombs it is impossible to survive. Yeah I know get a escort. 
But I am in for a brief moment and I choose servers who do not have it. As long as they mark the severs on what is going on I do not mind either. But it do split the community in two. I like this game for its ambitions of being authentic .  Alt view looks worse than labels on in my opinion. 
Simply label servers who use it and problem will be solved

This becomes extremely noticeable in certain light conditions too. I was easily spotting fighter-sized targets at 30-40 km away last night. I hadn't believed it was possible from my initial testing but its like you say - bright white butterflies fluttering around far in the distance. I was over Antwerp, contacts were past Lommel as far as I could tell...which is hard because the scaling screws with any knowledge of range.

BTW sorry I couldn't be more help the other night on CB. All I managed to do was meet you over the target and get myself shot down - next time I will be a better escort.

I do not know how it is with smaller screens in HD, but in 4K and 42 inch screen that I have, I love the new long distance visibility.

I tested it with fighters and bombers boxes (36 ones) and it is all perfect.

So I am for it 👍

Here are my impressions from a VR  User(oculus rift NON-S):

 

Alternate OFF:

Visibility is great and i can see planes far away if the light hits them just right (perhaps a little too bright but that can be tuned a bit)

Planes get bigger as they get closer and as i Zoom in, as expected.

To ID I have to get very close to target (but that is a problem with VR, not the game).

 

I'm all for this mode and find it to be what the community was asking for all along with the better spotting.

 

Alternate ON:

I can see planes everywhere on the map while zoomed out, if I zoom in, they disappear. if close enough, they just get smaller (i think this is a bug)

I still have to get close to ID, as expected (in VR at least)

Visibility is so over the top that you don't know if a target is 10 or 50km away.

 

I don't particularly like this mode (even in VR) but i think that it is just bugged at the moment).

 

 

Both Modes:

When I zoom in on a target that is "being hit just right by the sun" (so it is brighter than usual) the brightness disappears and the plane gets dark as I zoom in (I also think that this instant changing in color is a bug)

 

 

All in all, I'm reserving my final opinion to a point in time when the new visibility is confirmed as finished or the bugs get fixed. for now I like Alternative Visibility OFF the better.

The KOTA server perpetually being overloaded and freaking out is a bigger issue than the spotting, IMO.

I don’t want to take away something half community wants. 
But I spend a lot of my time climbing and only after 30 minutes I see I am in a alt. Vis. Server. 
if it was labeled as such you will not hear complaint from me.

Same here. Its the "middle solution" which would work best. And we would all play the "same game" across all servers. Really why they just didnt go this way....instead of this mess...

I don’t think a middle solution between “real” and “enhanced” is possible. 

it’s one or the other. 
With such variations in hardware it’s too easy for any enhancement to become too much.

Unfortunately, alt visibility will in large part kill off bomber missions and reduce online play to "no tactics" furballs," it's already happening.
