PWCG 7.1.0 Bug reports - PLEASE READ

Recommended Posts

Patrick, I choose US for my campaign and there is only Fighter and Bomber campaigns, I wanted to do a P-38 Attack campaign.

I saw Attack in your video's you did but I never see it in 7.0 with Bodenplatte map selected.

I am now getting this sporadic error in my P51 352nd campaign on Rheine. It happened maybe twice immediately upon loading into the game, and this latest time it happened mid-flight on a patrol mission. Is this an issue with PWCG or should I be looking elsewhere?

@jasta11ace Can you zip up one of the campaigns that is failing?  I see where the problem is but without the campaign it will be very difficult figure out why.

Most likely due to some P-51 skin names having non-supported characters. Sporadic as not all skin names contain such, (eg., underscores). User will need to remove such characters (go camel) and re assign skins, and accept/save the new skin assignments.  By the by, love the word persnickety, along with discombobulate....

I just recieved that same error. Although this happened as my sortie was at its premature end. I've zipped up and attached the mission and campaign.

Also to report was that the misson appeared to have allied static units overlapping eachother (artillery and machine guns on the same spot). I was flying as RAF with the Spitfire 9 and have no downloaded skins for any of the aircraft that would have appeared in the campaign so not sure that GiftZahnsSteigerns belief bears fruit.

Also to report in the FC version your route is not provided on the ingame map unlike in the BOS version. See thats been reported here already.

thickie did not realise you was asking another player for campaign zip ups for another issue than the one I've quoted the post for.

@Oliver88 Got it. Typo in the vehicle designation.  It's supposed to be vi (Tiger) and not iv (Mk IV)

In the meantime find pzvi-h1.json and delete it.

Sorry another thing to report, rather minor though, does not impact the player one bit.

As you can see in the screenshot above the RFC, RNAS and RAF tabs are duplicated here. It's just in the FC version, the same does not occur in the BOS version. Oh and I realise now as I post that the same is true for the Belgians and French. Thier tabs are duplicated also.

In Coop mode only I keep getting the following error:

pwcg.core.exception.PWCGMissionGenerationException: No valid role for squadron: FA 7

I have been a longtime user of PWCG in RoF and BoS since it came out. This error only happens in FC Coop mode, not in BoBp Coop or in FC Single Player mode. Running Java Version 8 update 231.

British pilots now seem to speak American English (rather than Russian- which is a step in the right direction).

Looks like one of the pilot pictures is wonky.  If you try again odds are good that it will work.  Meantime I will try to figure out which picture is off.

Hi Pat,

I tried a different campaign and have no errors coming up which is great - thanks.  The issue I have now is that the missions aren't showing in the missions section.  In fact none of the missions I have are showing except the stock ones.  Any reason why that should be?

If the mission file is in the mission directory then the game is deciding not to let you fly.  Usually that is due to being assigned to a plane or a map that you don't own

OK - that's odd as I have all the planes and maps.  I know it's not an issue with your campaign generator as my user created missions aren't showing up in the game either now

Can you post the .mission and .eng files that won't fly?  Could be an error in there somewhere.

Hi Pat, I’ve noticed IL-2s and Pe-2s acting like fighters in recent campaigns. Is this intentional?

I have tried again, ref post above made Tuesday, many times to get a Coop to work in FC and get the same error every time.  Regardless of squadron, or airforce I continue to get the same error: No valid role for squadron: FA 7.  I have tried eliminating FA 7 from the campaign prior to generating a new one and get the same error with a different squadron.  I have also tried different dates no change and flying as FA 7. same error.

Yes,  If you delete it PWCG won't read it.  It won't complain.

File should be located here:

... IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\PWCGBoS\BoSData\Input\Vehicles

Maybe instead of deleting it, just correcting the typo could fix it?

It wont fix an already generated mission, only new ones. If you want to fix the one already generated, you have to open the mission with a notepad or other text editor of your choice and replace "pziv-h1" for "pzvi-h1". Let me know if it works.

Cheers

Pat, I'm using 7.0 but I am getting British voices in my U.S. squadron and Russian tower voices. I started a new campaign with the current version and set up another with a different squadron but still the same. Maybe I've done something wrong?

Thanks

Further investigation of the problems reported above on Tuesday 29 Oct and yesterday 2 Nov regarding errors generating MP missions:

The issue only happens in MP - either Coop version and not in SP at all.

I have narrowed down the problem to Squadrons equipped with two-seaters only and specifically to the roles "ROLE_ARTILLERY_SPOT" and "ROLE_RECON"

Changing the spotting and recon roles to a weight of 0 and re-balancing the weighting works but results in no recon or spotting missions.  For me it is not a significant problem, I alter the squadrons on my Server to run missions for the squad in Coop and keep it as published on my Gaming computer for SP.  For those who want to do both on one machine copy your PWGCFC folder before modifying it and rename it something like PWCGFC - Coop and then edit the files in that version and use it for Coop campaigns and use the other for SP campaigns.

I did see some talk of it but couldn’t tell if it was resolved.

Thanks Pat I know you have a lot on your plate. You are a machine. Honestly I have no idea how you do it.

Yes, no kidding - that is a huge understatement! Single player, now multiplayer and co-op, and add in Flying Circus too?!?!? 1C really ought to be paying you or at the very least, I hope they are giving you everything they release (collector planes, campaigns, additions) for free.

I was not flying a lot lately, but started a few test campaigns on the Rheinland map and Moscow and noticed there was no radio beacon. No antenna on the airfields and of course no signal either.

I tried two 109 campaigns starting 10/41 on the Moscow map with cold start, but the AI did not taxi after starting the engines. With the 110 it works.

I had a ground attack mission with the Focke Wulf on the Bodenplatte map, escorted by squadmates, which made me start as escort fighter in the air instead of ground attack aircraft on the ground, as it should. The same issue I had posted earlier appearing with the 110 on the Moscow map.

Hello,

On my side impossible to generate missions, when I press "Accept Mission" the software no longer responds (in SinglePlayer and Coop). A friend has tried, he manages to generate missions but when he tries to host a server with the mission his game crashes, . What could we have done wrong?

I downloaded version 7.1.0, we put it in \1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles and we modified the startup.cfg as requested: mission_text_log = 1, I own BoS, BoM and BoK, my friend only BoS and so naturally we try to make a campaigne on stalingrad only.

We tried to create different campaigns, generate different missions, reinstall several PWCGs, try on version 7.0.0 and 7.1.0 etc.

Regards

@Vladivostok In 7.1.0 PWCG is creating a binary file.  This takes several minutes (2-3).  Before it was just making a text file which only takes a few seconds.  There is a wait icon (blue spinner on WIndows machines) that gives you an idea that work is progressing.  When the spinner stops the mission creation process is complete and you can proceed.  By making the binary during mission creation, mission load times are reduced to about 30 seconds.  In general it seems a good trade off.

If you do not want PWCG to create a binary file you can turn this feature off.  Main Menu->Configuration->User Preferences->Create Binary . Mission File (last might not be 100% correct but it is close).  Set this value to the number 0 (zero).  Now mission files will generate in a few seconds but your mission load time will go back to several minutes.

I just disabled the function, everything seems to be working now! Thank you !!

I'm going to ask my friend to do a test again to see if he can host his mission now.

With the binary function enable on my side, I sometimes let the software run for 10 minutes and the mission was not generated (worse the software no longer responded and ended up crashing). And for my friend it was simply the mission that didn't work (which caused the game to crash).

Thanks for the feedback.  What PWCG is doing is invoking a command line executable (called resaver) provided by 1C to create the binary file.  Very surprised that this would crash PWCG.  If the resaver crashed then I could see PWCG hanging.

The process took 2-3 minutes for me.  I am running a 3 year old CPU from an SSD.  Not sure if it is CPU or the SSD that is giving me better results.  I still think 2-3 minutes is a very long time, but PWCG mission files are approaching 1 million lines.  I am pretty sure that 1C never envisioned this :)

Hi Pat,

I'm not sure if this is an error or there's a reason for it but I'm 7 missions into a campaign on the Moscow map. Now if I look at the 'Intel Map' I can see 6 Soviet fighter regiments. 27th, 34th, 11th, 126th, 495th and 62nd but when I look at the 'intelligence report' screen only 3 of them are listed. 11th, 27th and 126th.

Is there a reason for this or is it an error?

Cheers

PS thanks for all your efforts over the years with PWCG, I used it loads with ROF and it was the first thing I downloaded when I bought BOS too.

Ha thanks, I've done a little investigation myself. When I look at the 'Equipment Depo' screen, it only shows MiGs, LaGGs and P40s available to the Soviets....no I16s at all (a lot of I16s were destroyed in my first 7 missions).

When I look at the fighter regiments it's showing as available in the 'Intelligence Report' screen, they are the ones flying the MiGs, LaGGs and P40s.

So does that mean the missing regiments don't have aircraft available to be operational?

So in theory you could clear the air of enemy fighters?

Which begs another question then....how quickly does reinforcement happen?

Cheers

Another video similar to your "AI pilots, why should I care?" one that instead goes over the Equipment and Equipment Depo Report screens and explains how units are reinforced and what the point in the fake serials are would be great. Until the Bodenplatte and Arras maps were supported I had not used the generator since I ceased Rise of Flight and moved to Great Battles sometime last year and this is one such new feature that is a mystery to me.
