Microsoft Flight Sim 2020

Probably best to take things slow before buying add-ons. I already did once with Rex and it was half baked. In a few months things may settle down and you can read reviews and get a better idea of whats good and whats not.

Okay, just bought it.  Cleared some space and it appears to be installing to the correct drive.  We'll see how it goes...

Not a decision you're likely to regret. 🛩️

How about keeping track of how long it takes for interest's sake - and maybe for entertainment going by your previous estimate. Good luck!

More cool marketing videos from the Microsoft/Asobo folks:

Gaya Simulation Partnership Video, they will be handling all of the airport scenery for the upcoming world updates

Aerosoft Partnership Video that includes some a pretty cool look at the upcoming CRJ

Bought the ORBX "So Fly" weather preset software. Watched some youtube videos and it looked pretty good. And it is. Not to mention it's only $8.50Cdn.

Adds about 40 weather presets into the existing list, everything changes on the fly super easy, and it looks really nice. Definitely ups the weather eye candy game. Haven't tried all the presets, but some of the subtler ones add some nice atmosphere. For less than $10, I think it's worth it.

Glad everyone is enjoying the sim. I did too when I could get it to load. I have now uninstalled untill the "stalled on blue bar loading screen" is fixed.

Initial download took almost 5 days to install from the Microsoft store at which point it  ran fine on my older system ( I7 5820, 16 gigs ram, GTX 980ti ).

Then the first patch hit and ran into the frozen blue bar screen.

Tried all options to resolve to no avail so uninstalled and reinstalled. Another 4 days of downloading and I was up and running again.

2nd patch hit and same thing with stuck blue bar loading screen. Uninstalled/reinstalled 2 more times, this time with the xbox app and was able to get it working again for another week.

The xbox app did allow me to download the sim in about 9 hrs.

This was the point where I got a message from my internet provider saying I had used 90% of my allowable usage (500 GB). Never had that before.

No problem, its working!

Next day STUCK ON BLUE BAR AGAIN! without any update.

Tried everything I could find on the internet to resolve this with no luck.

The sim ran great on my system with medium to high settings but getting it to start is the problem.

It is now uninstalled untill Microsoft can sort out the loading issues and I upgrade my system (ram, gpu).

If there are any suggestions on how to get this to start consistently, I'll download it one more time.

Cheers.

I have to set my Ethernet card to 10mbit/s to download updates. Faster than that and the game keeps attempting to download the same file over and over again. They have a crappy throttling mechanism implemented in the client. Instead of pausing, it restarts the current file.

Damn, I came here to check in on Feathered's download progress before checking for a DD. 🤨

He's still recovering from his first flying lesson in the 152 with Captain Viagra Molina;

Almost there!   The download speed was pretty constant throughout and stayed at the upper end of what is achievable with my Aussie internet connection.  Which is still slow enough to make someone living in a grass hut in East Africa lol (known issue), but it got there eventually.

I just got past the Choose your Experience screen, which hung for nearly an hour.  However I found I could click the Back button a few times and make my way past it.   I’m now in the welcome screen and menus.

So far it’s ahead of my anticipated schedule.  I thought it would be downloading until tomorrow morning based on my usual speeds.  I guess it must be the difference between local and overseas servers.

Next up is to see if it runs.

Those are just so mind boggling screenshots. I would probs donate my other kidney if could get similar authentic graphics for WW1 or WW1 flight sim, and then spend all the time I can in recon plane just looking at how places were in those times.

Well you could put recce pictures on top of bing maps. And do that 3d rendering.
and then handmake some areas. It should be possible

Actually yeah, and should be doable in smaller scale. Then you could buy "maps" for FC for example. Wish they do this! There was a lot of aerial action in WW1 according to book I just bought, so they could make hell lot of interesting maps for authentic variety.

Cfs is just such a different thing with hitboxes and such. It is equally much coding but in different areas.
If community grows and become as big as ms 2020 customerbase. It might be possible. But I just left fb group fs 2020. What come with a big crowd, is a lot of whining bitches. You think we are bad, nono no. We are scout boys in comparison

I really don't understand why people keep going on about MS making some sort of air combat sim from their current civ sim. Nothing they have said publicly suggests that they have the slightest intention on doing so, and beyond looking good, having aircraft in it, and possibly some of the weather modelling features, there is next to nothing that could be usefully ported over.

I did not want MS making anything. I want 1C make detailed real life maps for FC, which people could then buy. This is what I want, and I don't have to be noted that it wont happen because of this and that 😄

It is not impossible they will come up wit a cfs. But to me being able to sightsee pretty much anything in the world. Is amazing. I fly with google maps gps on second screen. I still try to find obvious flaws in road in Tokyo. For me it is not important if they did go cfs, but did love their pacific version

Same here. And Googling various random spots of interest, checking whatever results look interesting like Wikipedia, Trip Advisor reviews, photos, blogs or whatever. It's very cool and brings an extra touch of reality. I was in central Mongolia yesterday, now with some idea of what it's like there. Too cool.

They won't make a cfs component in msfs, but a whole new cfs in the future I can see happening, with the success of msfs and the extremely aggressive spending microsoft is doing in the xbox department, not to mention their need for exclusives.

Wow, that's cool, had to check how Norway looks from Youtube, and it looks awesome. These combat sims begin to feel rather outdated 😄

I a ok with status quo about cod. Dcs and GB. I am just a bit fed up with them. 2020 came in the right time for me

I would equally fly both CFS and MSFS, but as you said, MSFS 2020 came just in time when there was no really useful CFS alternative anymore.

1946: Meh...

CloD: Sorry guys but it's undead.

GB: Not allowed to mention the reason here, mods will wipe out my post (probably anyways).

DCS: Can't sell my house to afford it right now, wife doesn't agree.

Because we are in 2020, games are evolving like most combatflysim veterans here liked CFS3/IL2-1946 but did skip it for  the next phase in flysims BoS/DCS.  With all respect to 1C, but after a long time of absence in flying BoX, its clearly shows its age if being compared to the new benchmark in flysims the FS2020. 1C needs to focus from now on, to the major aspects, with the FS2020 guide as an good sample what people wanting to see in 2020 game. Burning the precious budget on minor aspects like introducing new Russian pilots winteruniform, female pilots or raising the Moscow map after 7y, are all nice-to-have, only not an step for entering the future.

Edit: great to see that Aerosoft is now involving in FS2020. This company was in the start of RoF selected as the global W-European distributor, so here I did do my RoF preorder, my first preorder btw. After receiving the DVD,  I had a brief contact with an US distributor, he wanted a check on what was included in the RoF EUR DVD box.

Dutch2, I suggest you take a look at the MSFS forum, to see how people have been reacting to it. Hardly a 'good sample' of what people seem to want at all. While I don't think the views expressed their are particularly representative (as with any game/sim forum) there is a great deal of discontent being expressed about, amongst other things, the developers seemingly prioritising adding new content, rather than dealing with more pressing issues - some of which are almost game-breaking for those wishing to fly the big jets for example.

https://forums.flightsimulator.com/

If people want to fantasise about Microsoft doing something they have given no indication of being interested in, fine. They should however perhaps pay more attention to what has actually occurred (a premature release, followed by updates that have often broken almost as many things as they've fixed), and ask themselves whether it is actually what they'd want. Personally, despite the issues, I'm still reasonably confident that a decent civilian flight sim could result from this - but it is going to take time, and there is always the risk that MS will decide it isn't worth the hassle.

I could go into detail here over why the MSFS codebase (and broader environment) is utterly unsuited to an air combat sim, but frankly I can't see the point, since there seems to be no more reason to suppose that Microsoft might want to get involved with one than any of the major videogame companies who have previously had plenty of opportunity, and not taken it. Wanting something to happen isn't a reason to assume it will.
