Black September IV - Flying Circus

Black Septermber IV - Flying Circus

  1. 1. How do you prefer to fly this introductory campaign?

    • Central and Entente Teams that DO NOT SWITCH each week.
    • Red and Blue Teams that DO SWITCH sides each week.
    • Pilots (not teams) MAY SWITCH sides on a first come, first served space available basis at the start of each weeks mission. Would help even sides if attendance is unpredictable.
  2. 2. Which side would you prefer to fly? (select all that apply)

    • Both (I may wish to fly different sides different weeks sometimes)
    • Either side (put me where you need me if there are teams/sides)
    • German Preferred
    • German Only (don't select other options)
    • Entente Only (don't select other options)
    • Entente Preferred
  3. 3. Do you plan on flying Black September?

Relive history.   Live history.  Make history!

Announcing Black September IV

Fly in the first world-wide Flying Circus community campaign!

What – A four week Flying Circus campaign focusing on the highly successful but too late last-ditch effort by the German Air Service in September 1918.

For a little history see - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1918_in_aviation#September

Jasta 5 was proud to bring the first ever community-wide campaign to the predecessor of Flying Circus and we are honored to be able to bring this first of it's kind community-wide campaign to Flying Circus!  We welcome all pilots, new and experienced alike, to be a part of this historical event!

Although FC is a long way away from having some of the functionality of its predecessor, this is an opportunity to introduce newer fliers to a more complex mission focused campaign environment while satisfying the veteran pilots desires for a immersive mission based campaign.  Within the constraints of the current system, we will be striving to have something for both the turn and burn pilots as well as meaningful and challenging  missions for two-seater pilots and fighter escorts who appreciate flying objective based missions.

We are looking for community input on a few key details so please participate in the poll on this post (vote now as the poll ends soon).

When –

August 31st (try to break the mission practice)

September 7, 14, 21, 28, 1700-2000 GMT (convert to your local time zone)

Where – Flying Circus Flugpark server hosted by Jasta 5 will be reconfigured on mission days and password protected.  This server has hosted many years of Rise of Flight campaigns including Bloody April and Black September as well as serving the Flying Circus community as a gathering place on Sunday fly-ins.  Both teams/sides will meet on the Jasta 5 Teamspeak server at jasta5.teamspeak3.com to fly and access server password.  Also see:  https://jasta5.org/Jagdstaffeln_5/red_baron_j5_communications_room.htm

How – Rules will be announced here about August 31, one week prior to the commencement of hostilities.

Server Settings:

Death penalty: 20 minutes. If you can re-life, do so after 20 minutes. You should be able to fill backseat gunner positions during your death penalty.

Weapon Mods: Not anticipated at this time.

Plane sets:

All currently available planes will be used. We anticipate having some forward fields (for the turn and burners), intermediate fields (for fighter escorts) and deep fields (for two-seaters) with a variety of resupply intervals at each.     Look for official rules describing resupply in more detail once they are announced here on this this thread about a week before hostilities.

And now we know too :)

I answered preference flying Central, but I'm really willing to fly anything, either side, if need be. But I prefer flying Central with my Jasta 2 mates, if possible. Or with our Jasta 5 brothers of course ;)

Congratulations to J5 for leading the initiative in creating big events for the new game!

Looking forward to this, anybody who hasn't tried it yet needs to check it out, it's serious fun.

Thx for hosting again.

I am happy to make up the numbers on either team.

Are the dates subject to change?

This is traditionally the best day and time for participants in these kinds of events....except when it's not.

Unfortunately there is no perfect day or time for everyone and switching days and time week to week tends to lead to confusion.

Sorry if the day and time does not work for you Oliver.

No thats alright, the reason I query is that my work rota is random each week. Am considering trying to book the dates to ensure that I can attend (at least some of them). And so was checking that those dates are not subject to change before I do go ahead and book them. Was signed up for one of the Rise of Flight campaigns (not sure which) but could not attend any in the end, and would be great to be able to attend the first one for Flying Circus instead.

Thats what I was hoping you might be driving at.  The days/dates/times are set (be sure you convert from the posted UTC time to your local time).

IMHO Sundays would work better, like Vintage mission and ACG campaigns do (plus stay sober because next day is work day ;)) . Saturdays are always unstable to be sure (friends and family), but I'm happy to participate anyways :)

It might be interesting to take a poll on whether Saturday or Sunday works best for people. But surely any solution should have to please J5 in all cases, it would be pretty absurd if the organisers couldn't participate!

We understand there are pros and cons and like was said earlier there never is a perfect day or time for everyone and we all feel badly for those it does not work well for. Also there are a lot of players who we don't want to force to choose between flying this event or participating in the other events you mention,  The traditional day for WWI community events has been Saturday....or Saturday AND Sunday, for those thowe who were flying back in the Red Baron days....and for an important part of the WWI community from Russia Sunday presents special problems!

Glad you are able to make adjustments Tomcat, thanks for being flexible and for bringing this up.

Assuming I can figure out a way of making the SE5a handle as it should, I'd be interested.

Been avoiding FC altogether.

Looks like fun! Thanks for providing the poll; I put my votes in. Only reason I put "no" in the "do you plan to attend" box is because I'm not sure of my schedule availability as of yet. I'd like to fly if possible though! :)

My schedule is sorted so I will indeed be coming along in September. Am coming alone (not in any squadron etc) so when gets nearer to the event and the teams are known etc would be great to wing up with some other pilots.

Pass (and voted accordingly).

Best wishes to all who fly the event. Past events have been nothing short of excellent, and I have every confidence that J5 will do the best they can with the available content to try and make it workable... That said, my personal feeling is that FC, in its current state, is but a shadow of what is needed to make this event even a close approximation of its predecessors, and I'm not particularly inclined to fly it in this product (as it sits, currently).

That doesn't mean it shouldn't be attempted, and I wish all of the participants well, but, personally, I'll give it a miss until FC is significantly more mature...   Happy Hunting.

Regards,

4 ~S!~

You are absolutely right FourSpeed.

We have even bombs on Entente planes not working correct now.

And I`m sure we will explore a lot of other bugs during tournament.

Why not to wait for FC release?

Without FC map and proper ww1 AI units it could be hard , and I think that assets  will not be available before release in December. Definitively it we be hard work for organizers to make it work. They know what they sign for .

Well I think it will be a great trial run for when FC is final. Most of the little things will be figured out by the J5 boys/hosts working on the Black September campaign.

It's not that bad if you keep in mind all this is beta/preorder....

Turn and burner fan and specialist in tree-top-cutting here 😋, sound interesting.  I do not mind what side I play as long as I can play the DR1 or Bristols and I also like riding shotgun.

But I am in doubt because I am far from experienced and never played online. I do not even know how to do that.

Reading the concerns about FC not being ready for an organised event - I actually think that it's exactly the right thing to do.

What better way to outline the overall product as it stands, and what the community will be able to do with it? Considering that FC is in Alpha (or is it Beta now?), this event should leave us with tons of stuff to bring to the devs' attention - required fixes, etc (provided we forward them in a clear and unified manner rather than all firing off individual opinions, of course!).

I think there's something of a shared responsibility between the community and the devs to shape FC into a worthy successor for RoF, and this event might just be a great way for us to do that.

Just my 2 cents...

What you would report , there is no dedicated map, objective logic/ mission types and AI (think about ww2 only AAA) units build for ww1 era ?  I don't discourage nobody, I will be there and pass feedback directly through beta channel of existing ww1 assets. I know it will be splendid fun :) as all pass events was .

I was thinking more issues that creep in with the planes that might have previously gone un-noticed - if there are any! (I noticed some posts mentioning buggy Entente planes / bombs). The organisation of a big event like this could more-or-less unify the community's voice, if we are all experiencing similar issues in the same public event at the same time.

Of course, there may not be any issue that we haven't already pointed out...

I think the problem is that people have an instantaneous fuse setting and try to drop at low altitude.  Currently the allied bombs use the WW2 Russian fuse logic.  Set fuses to five second delay and they will go off  (maybe not if super low).  Shorter the delay the higher you have to drop them or they will not go off.

Do voice your doubts. Basically, you select the Multiplayer and then Dogfight options, then select whatever server ypu want. In thus case, the proper server will be announced by the event organizers. But many servers are open to anyone. It is advisable to read the rules of behaviour in the server upon connecting. Then you go ahead with whichever orders someone assigned to you, in case things are more organized, as sometimes happens in evebts, or you just do what you feel is right and fun. And then you try to shoot other people down like you do with the AI, only they are smarter ;) .
