The Beast of Turin

28 litre engine. 290 HP. Once did 116 mph on Saltburn Sands beach, and then 132 mph at Ostende. Not going quite that fast at Goodwood, though I suspect if it had been dry, they would have pushed it a bit harder. 😎

Seven litres per cylinder, that's crazy. :)

The thing runs at idle with a bucket load of torque. 🏁

You have to have big bollocks to drive that thing at those speeds!

Not so much a car as an enormous mobile barbecue with a crazy offset steering wheel.

Thank goodness.  I thought this was going to be about a war criminal.

Just a slightly bigger than an Allison V-1710.😁

With the tread title "The Beast of Turin", when i saw the exhaust flame spitting out of that fire breathing monster and all those straw bales around the track, i was sure that thing will just set the  whole town on fire.

Thanks God it didn't happen.

There is a video of the Beast taking a road trip from Bristol to Goodwood, via the motorway (definitely within the speed limit, honestly ;)). Apparently, when they pulled into a service station for fuel (I'd imagine it gets through a lot) they warned the staff not to be worried about the flames on startup, but still managed to set off alarms as they left.

The Beast seems originally to have had an exhaust pipe, which should have reduced the pyrotechnics a bit, I'd have thought. I'm not sure why they left it off.

Cuz for fun, lol.

It's amazing thing. With it's stagecoach-like chassis, tiny wheels, positive camber on the front axle, let alone it's odd controls (by today's standards), it's super scary thing to drive at high speeds, but I guess it's super fun!
