Wanganui_Wildcat 496
So I have never done any modding of any kind (other than aircraft skins) and I don't even know where to start but I was hoping to try and mod the Kuban map to look like a desert scenario, so change the green for sandy brown and remove the trees, etc. Is this possible? Is this easy? How would I even begin? Thanks in advance for any help or advice. Edited June 29, 2019 by Wanganui_Wildcat
LizLemon 1020
Start by dumping everything with the ungtp tool. Then the textures you want to alter are in landtextquality and surfacetext folders inside the LANDSCAPE_Kuban_X I'm almost done with my map making guide 1 1
jollyjack 566
tried to make a manual, but gave up due current bug with disappearing surface edit in my ME installation: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/62894-map-editing-manual-for-the-mission-editor-starter/?tab=comments#comment-962899
jollyjack 566
Got a workaround for activating Surface Edit. Also found this for IL2 1946. http://www.mediafire.com/file/jf7gz1opb0qc923/Map_Building_Tutorial_v5_IL1946.rar/file A bit enlightening, but GB uses different types of texture files, f.i JPG should be .dds, maybe interlaced? You can convert it with Photoshop, with the NVIDIA plugin, maybe with GIMP as well. MicroDEM is a free map making tool i think, capable of editing heights ? I found a few things, but i am still figuring out how to save the map changes for game use as with heights ...
LizLemon 1020
I can import any heightmap I want, along with tree maps, water maps, ect. You can't actually load any of them in-game though, just the mission editor.
