TFS Developer Update 29 June, 2019 - Spitfire Vb Tropical

Showcasing one of the new flyable aircraft for IL-2 Cliffs of Dover 5.0.

 

The highly anticipated Spitfire Vb Tropical variant. 

 

Update also includes new sounds and the new theater, North Africa. 

 

A more in depth look at the Vb will be released in the near future.

 

The North Africa map  is still in Alpha. It does not include the new cloud systems and weather,  or other details such as rock formations or rocky abuttments, distance views, etc. etc. which will be seen in the final version.

Nice work. 

Only thing missing is the dust plumes from the desert floor, these were in 1946 and would be great to see in Clod especially when low to the deck too.

Looking great :) the only thing that is kind of meh are exploding cars after getting hit with few shots. It took box 4 or 5 years to get more detailed damage model so i don't expect everything to be done instantly. But i would love to see it getting improved one day. So a "kill" =/= explosion. Destroying the engine, wheels. Cars don't really blow up after getting shot at :P maybe fire would start and engine start burning. Kind of like that but with a vehicles.

At the risk of over sharing, I jizz at the thought of a Spitfire Vc Trop.  :biggrin:

 

Is that the new Tobruk map by the way?  It looks very vintage Il-2.

Hi Feathered, Yes BR483 was a Spitfire Vc. But I'm sure 100% historical skins will follow.

You are looking at Static objects... not full AI vehicles.

 

AI vehicles have more complex models but take up more processing power... which is why a lot of people use Static objects.

 

Mission builders who are serious about their missions and mission builders using moving vehicles will use full AI vehicles.

 

Player controlled vehicles also have a more complex DM.

 

Ships have more complex DM's as well.

None of the dust effects which are intended for the final TOBRUK map are included in the Alpha map seen in this update.

 

There will be greatly increased dust effects generated on takeoff and landing.

 

The new weather systems we are including in TF 5.0 may also include effects such as dust vortices.

Hi Buzzsaw, thanks for the reply. On a related note have the coders been able to fix the conga bounce for vehicles yet? Crossing my fingers here.

Don't forget, USAAF flew Spit 5's in North Africa, too. Hoping to see some wearing the stars and bars. P-40's too.

I'm pretty sure the USAAF will be absent since they didn't participate in the battle this expansion is based upon.

That being said i'm sure skins will be made for you to enjoy.

American markings will be available for those who want to use them in non-historical missions and on dogfight servers set up for fun.

 

But for the period the TF 5.0 module covers, there were no USAAF Squadrons/Groups in service.

 

We will include the RAF No. 71/121/133 "Eagle" Squadrons and their markings for the Channel Map... these were the RAF Squadrons set up with American personnel, (initially with some British Officers, later completely American...

RAF_Eagle_Squadron_-_World_War_II_-_Embl

 

...and later taken over by the USAAF and re-named to 334/335/336 Squadrons/4th Fighter Group.
