Ludendorff bridge remagen

Recommended Posts

Will the Ludendorff bridge feature in the new Bodenplatte map?

would love too see the ARADO AR 234 blitz bomber as a future collector plane, as we are now getting jets.

the arado 234 was nearly impossible too intercept, flew at 742kmh,they built 214 off these machines.

they were used too bomb Ludendorff bridge repeatly, ( what a great mission scenario we could have here )

There has been a post with the BOBP map limits but I can't seem to find it.

This is the list of cites devs said they are working on in DD 217. I'm gonna try work it out.

Antwerp
The Hauge
Liege
Frankfurt am Main
Dortmund
Münster
Cologne (Köln)
Bonn
Gent
Rotterdam
Charleroi
Amsterdam
Düsseldorf
Aachen
Bruxelles
Arnhem
Duisburg
Essen
Apeldoorn
Maastricht

Yeah it should be there.

Charleroi is the furthest south city I can find and Frankfurt is the furthest east and that captures Remagen.

Although they were the twin Ar-234B, not the quad Ar-234C as shown in that picture.

Yes 2 jet engines is enough, I do not think they will attempt 4 jet engines.

( imagine trying too start with 4 engines !! )

The same way you start with 2 but do it 2 more times?

Also C series with 4 engines were quite small, so if anything B with 2 engines would be made.

The burden of the attacks on the Ludendorff bridge wasn't carried by jet aircraft - it was carried by the Fw 190s of NSGr. 20 and 11./KG 200, as well as by the Stukas of NSGr. 1 and 2.
I wrote the unit histories for the campaigns of the mentioned units and made the Devs aware of the SC 1000 dropped on the bridge by Fw 190s. Considering this and the historical significance of its capture, I would be very surprised if the bridge isn't modelled.

III./KG76 had a good go at the bridge with their Arados, so it would make a great collector plane IMO. Besides, the devs now have jet technology working, it would be a shame to waste it and not make any more. The Meteor is a bit of a damp squib as far as Northern Europe is concerned, so the Blitz it will have to be!

I think the arado is the best fit, but id still love the meteor and even a p80 and he162 (my favorite looking plane)

Remagen is within the game's map boundaries, so there's a good chance it'll be included - there are, after all, a few unique river landmarks on the Moscow map.

Oh definitely. I spent tons of time flying the Ar234 on IL-2: 1946. It's a lot of fun!

Sure bet. Ar 234 is second behind Spitfire XIV in my personal collector plane wishlist.

They are my two nominations for Collector Planes to be released after Bodenplatte. Here's hoping!

As it Looks by the map they have published in a DD the Ludendorf Bridge is not included. I guess they add it in for the final release. The arrow indicates where the Bridge was standing in 1945.

Nope, the stuff is all there. Look at the map in Jason´s post here:

A plane no one can intercept, a great mission scenario? Maybe but not really good for gameplay. That said I rather have it than 262

First downed by a Spit XIV, IIRC.

You can intercept anything if it’s still on the runway ;)

The Arado isn't invincible to fighter attacks, especially if still carrying its external(!) bombload.

Considering that BoBP contains 10 fighter(-bombers) and an AI-only B-25D/Mitchell Mk.II, the Ar 234 B-2 and a flyable version of the B-25D should be the top priority in terms of collector aircraft, not yet another fighter. Moreover, both mentioned bombers are already going to be halfway there at that point.

I'd be looking forward to:

  • "Rauchgeräte" RATO boosters
  • Drogue parachute
  • PV 1B periscope sight with BZA 1 bombing computer (as used in the still missing Stuvi bombsight of the Ju 87 & 88)

Several sorties off AR-234b bombers flew too blow up the bridge.

me262s flew top cover ( maybe the only time in the war that jet bombers and jet fighters were used in sorties together )

on the 17th the bridge finally collapsed, near misses of the arado bombers is what finally caused the bridge to break up.

i think later variants were impossible to intercept as I think they maybe had pressureized cockpits and could fly at high altitudes

The Me 262 of KG 51 carried bombs themselves and did not act as fighter escorts. Moreover, the collapse of the bridge can hardly be attributed to the Luftwaffe attacks in general and certainly not to the few Ar 234.
As already stated: the Fw 190s of NSGr. 20 and 11./KG 200, as well as the Stukas of NSGr. 1 and 2, formed the main attack force.

Clostermann has an account of intercepting Arados over “that miserable “ bridge in a Tempest: he related being caught in a bomb blast and almost losing control of his fighter.

Key question, though: will we see Robert Vaughn?

I would rather have a DO217 with its wire guided anti shipping bombs, for sake of the overall plane set, but it might not be right for BoBP.

The me163 I would buy in a heartbeat, but it needs proper targets.  Maybe another expansion with heavy bombers and nightfighters (early 1944?  Mossie, b17, b24 or lancaster, spitXIV, vs me410, ju88 nightfighter variant, me163, Do217, with pathfinder modeling, destroyable dams, Berlin and channel maps, etc.).

I'm looking forward to flying along the rhein, will there be castles?  And railroad entrances disguised as castles?

Epic? That man is a legend! 😎

Bizarrely, I though for a minute that the picture was of Roy Schieder (another legend). ”Get off the beach: there’s a Schwalbe in the water!”
